Day 121 (Wednesday 19/08/09, JRJ) Left camp just before 9am and drove straight to the River Safari launch again for our free return trip. Again there was no sign of bears along the shore of Mud Lake so took a trip up Mud River but still no bears! Went back to the lake and stopped at the waterfalls again. While at the waterfalls a call came through on the radio that a bear had been spotted, so we raced off to the oposite side of the lake to see the large female black bear. It was amazing to see her in [View Full Entry]

Day 120 (Tuesday 18/08/09, NJJ) Saw Pyramid Lake and Patricia Lake. Drove for a few hours, stopped at Valemont but nothing of interest there so on to Blue River. Got to River Safari around 12.45pm. Did the 'safari'. Saw a bald eagle, ospreys but no bears as advertised. Had a short walk at Parberry Falls - ok. Checked into Blue River Campground. On to Eleanor Lake to relax lakeside in the sunshine, it was very hot and sunny. We left there at 4.30pm at which point it was 33º. Tent up at the campsite. Relaxed. Cooked pasta for dinner. Showers then [View Full Entry]

Lovely reflection

Day 119 (Monday 17/08/09, NJJ) Both had a good snug, bug, rug sleep. Saw fantastic scenery once again on the way to Maligne Lake. The lake was pretty but we were disappointed that the sun wasn't right for taking photographs - there is something wrong with us that we can't just appreciate the beauty of the experience in the moment. We walked around the lake shore and saw a lovely wild deer. We were desperate to see bears but at the same time for safety sake were hoping that we wouldn't and especially not near any of our campsites. Drove back [View Full Entry]

Day 118 (Sunday 16/08/09, NJJ) Started our drive to Jasper. Spent the majority of the day driving along the Icefield Parkway and stopping at various viewpoints along the way. The scenery was big and very impressive. Checked into the Whistlers National Park campground around 3.30pm. Tent up then drove into Jasper town. Had a drink and baguette at a bakery then took a walk around town. Back to camp in the evening. Pasta dinner. Shower. Bed. [View Full Entry]

Nice Rock

Day 117 (Saturday 15/08/09, NJJ) Slept OK last night although it seems as though all Canadian campgrounds are very close to train tracks - bloody trains beeping their horns as they're passing. What a fab morning though - I opened the tent to see two wild elk walking behind the tent, beautiful. Drove to Lake Louise. Special K brekkie. The lake was beautiful. Saw the Fairmont Chateau hotel. The Rockies are so majestic. We decided to take what we thought was an easy 3.4km walk to another lake, but we didn't read the sign and it was all uphill - and [View Full Entry]

Day 116 (Friday 14/08/09, NJJ) Drove to Radium Hot Springs. Spent an hour at the Hot Mineral Pool, Jay nearly fainted again. Drove to Kootenay National Park (Rockies). Stopped at Numa Falls. Drove again then stopped for a walk at Marble Canyon, part of the 12% of Kootenay National Park that was burnt in a 40 day fire in 2003. The re-growth is beautiful. From there to the town of Banff, in Banff National Park. Stopped at Bow Falls. Checked into Tunnel Mountain Village 1 campground and stopped to see the hoodoos along the way. Tent up and into Banff for [View Full Entry]

Day 115 (Thursday 13/08/09, NJJ) Drove to Revelstoke. Special K breakfast, and lunch. Drove through Mount Revelstoke National Park and Glacier National Park. Bought a 6 day National Park pass. Took a walk at Illecillewaet to the meeting of the two rivers. I was terrified about bears - there are signs and leaflets all over and I get even more scared. Took a longer walk (2.4km one way) to Wapta Falls in Yoho National Park. It started thundering then raining fairly heavy, we got wet through our raincoats but I didn't care because bears were all I could think about. The [View Full Entry]

Day 114 (Wednesday 12/08/09, NJJ) Slept well even though the camp site is right next to a train track. Packed up and left camp to go exploring in the glorious sunshine woo hoo! Supermarket for milk - Special K for brekkie in the car. Visited BC Wildlife Park near Kamloops. Saw saw bears, moose and more. Special K for lunch in the car. Back on the road. The scenery and weather were amazing. Drove through Revelstoke and on to set up camp for the night at Martha Creek Provincial Park, it cost $15 for the night but was very basic - [View Full Entry]

Pretty scenery at Wildlife Park

Day 113 (Tuesday 11/08/09, NJJ) Neither of us slept well at all last night. It rained all night and I expected to wake up floating on my inflatable bed in the morning. The traffic from a neary road was also very noisy. AND I was also woried about bears. Luckily the tent held out and there was only a little water inside. Around 7am Jamie went for a drive to the supermarket whilst I tried to get some more sleep - except I couldn't get bears out of my mind. We showered and packed up leaving around 10.30am. We are quite [View Full Entry]

Day 112 (Monday 10/08/09, NJJ) Up at 9am to more rain. Complimentary breakfast again at G Sports Bar. Checked out at 11am. Walked to the car rental office to pick up the car then bag to the hotel for the luggage. We weren't happy as the back shelf was missing in the car and we'd chosen this size of car so all our luggage could be hidden in the 'trunk'. After I sulked to myself a bit we stuck with the car. On to North Vancouver, through Stanley Park and across Lion's Bridge. Spent ages looking for Capillano Mall to stock [View Full Entry]
