So I depart Florida for L.A. to do this author event. Shout out to the Bodhi Tree Bookstore on Melrose for a really nice pre-publication event for this next book, "Journeys: Stories Our Bodies Can Tell." The chairs were all set in a circle and people came out of the woodwork for it and asked good questions. The turn out is still a bit of a mystery to me since I didn't do any promotion for the event. I wish I knew what got their attention. So I'm wondering about going to Bali (I try to go where invited) and Corey shows up for dinner in the place that is Beverly Hills adjacent that Diego (remember Diego, from Guatemala? Scroll Down for more on Diego) has loaned me while doing sessions and contributing in LA. And ... read more

Saturday 8th February to Saturday 15th February, 2009. As is increasingly becoming the norm being the impatient soul that I am I once again found myself stretching my timekeeping skills to the limit. A dislike for waiting around had meant I'd delayed departure to our appointed rendezvous until the last possible moment thus ensuring a foot to the floor white knuckle ride up the 405 Freeway but thankfully as I bounded through the doors of Los Angeles International's Terminal 6 around 8.30pm on Saturday evening she immediately came into sight, directly ahead of me and zipped up to the neck in her fur collared brown suede coat staring vacantly yet inquisitively at the empty baggage carousel, glasses and silver hair twinkling in the bright lights, grannie boots unzipped to the full allowing her tiny swollen feet ... read more

At 5.20am - we're getting better at this sleeping-in lark, we wake up. Early breakfast and we leave the hotel to find the bus stop. We end up walking for a good 20 mins as its such a nice day and pass a few Salvadorean restaurants (any ideas anyone?), lots of laundries, fast food restaurants, more fast food restaurants (of the burger, fried chicken and mexican genres), cheap electrical shops, did I mention fast food restaurants? Now I'm not reknowned for my heathly diet of fruit and veg, but after 3 days here, I'm having an urge to eat something fresh - like melon, strawberries, maybe some broccoli and carrots with some mashed potatoes - this is completely unheard of! Even the adverts for fastfood on the TV are putting me off - pictures of burgers ... read more

January 16th 2009 We’re on a cruise through Beverly Hills and Bel Air, and this is where the Beckhams used to live. Can you spot Jay Leno’s home from behind that massive wall of hedges? No? It’s O.K. because he ain’t there… He’s at the NBC studio practicing his lines, not that it made any difference to his comedy. He speaks with his chin, and boy is it funny. Hugh Laurie slinked on stage looking sheepish until the roar died down and George yelled DARLING (Hugh’s character’s name on Black Adder). Dr. House looked right up at us, then cracked a massive grin and said, “Tally ho!” He continued to then grizzle about how hard it is for a Brit living in LA at Christmas time because woolen items are of no use here! Alas, the ... read more

The title says it all. Three time zones, a dozen or so gas stops and two rest stops later, we arrived in Los Angeles, CA Sunday evening at approximately a quarter to 6pm, local (Pacific) time. Our timing could not have been better; Eric's flight did not depart until late in the evening, so we were able to catch him and spend some time before he headed out. Our first of many adventures in deliciousness ensued; Natalee Thai's is a hip/modern Thai restaurant and bar. And right around the corner from our current location for the next couple of days! The food was good; reasonably priced, fresh ingredients and good portions. Traci and I couldn't get over how much we missed being able to walk or hop on the 'T' back in Boston to get to ... read more

Oh my goodness, you'll never believe where I woke up this morning! In the home of PRISCILLA PRESLEY! This journey just keeps getting better and better. Priscilla told me she'd only just returned from Cairo and is due to set off again on another jaunt tomorrow, so I guess I was lucky we linked up in a rare quiet moment for her to sign my fine fibres I would love to have stayed longer and talked to one of the most famous women in the world about oh so many things, but Priscilla explained to me that I myself had a schedule to keep as I was soon to leave the US headed for the United Kingdom on the final leg of my journey. But if you want to know more about Priscilla and some of ... read more

Hey Everyone, Well it’s that time of year again; parties, friends, family, food, turkey, pumpkin pie, apple cider and ALOT of fun! It was Thanksgiving this week which is probably my favourite holiday here in LA. I volunteered during the day feeding the homeless people down in Santa Monica. Then in the afternoon/evening went to Lisa’s house - where I used to live when I was here last and celebrated in style! We played funny funny games and ate...ALOT! I love all the pies, such as pumpkin, caramel pecan and apple cider is just my favourite! I have attached some photos. The day after Thanksgiving is called 'Black Friday'. It’s like the Boxing Day sales after Christmas but 10 times better...maybe HA! If the shops don’t open at midnight, they open at 4:00am. And the sales ... read more

My goodness! I am no longer in the Southern Hemisphere! I have made it all the way to HOLLYWOOD!! In fact I am in the home of the incredibly beautiful, gracious, and warm-hearted iconic and legendary star of Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" TIPPI HEDREN!!! And you know what? Tippi lives in a big cat preserve called SHAMBALA that she's been running for over 30 years to look after all manner of huge felines that have been cast off by private owners, circuses and other unsuitable facilities! Michael Jackson's tigers are even here!!! I was a bit worried I was going to be eaten at one point, but Tippi took me into her loving care and signed me oh so beautifully I do hope I bring an enormous price at the end of this year-long, globe-trotting voyage ... read more

Met veel ... read more
