Los Angeles
Published: February 25th 2012North America » United States » California » Los Angeles » Beverly HillsIt’s been a long time since my last post, but here I am again with a new adventure. I am currently staying at the OzReport World Headquarter with Belinda and Davis at Cathedral City, California. But let me tell you how I got here. Next week, there will be a congress in Palm Springs, California, at which I will be presenting a number of studies with one of our MDs, Andreas. I decided to extend the stay a bit before and after the conference. Belinda invited me to spend some time with her and Davis before the congress, so I booked a flight to Los Angeles for the 20th of February. The journey was kind of exciting because I was going to fly from Hamburg via Frankfurt to Los Angeles, and the air traffic controllers had ... read more
California Dreaming (on such a winters day)
Published: February 5th 2012North America » United States » California » Los Angeles » Beverly HillsWe hear that winter in the UK today means Snow and Ice so we are rather happy to be in the Beverley Hills (are alive with the Sound of Dollars)in the warm sunshine. we had a traditional breakfast cooked at home by our wonderful hostess Arlene, then headed off out on the obligatory trolly bus tour of the stars homes and all those fancy shops too. (note to James.....Big Birthday coming up) Lunch out side in Bouchon Bistro followed by an afternoon nap. Tonight we were back on Sunset Boulevard tucking into beefburgers, chicken steaks and what will no doubt be the first of many birthday cakes. As three of us squeezed into the car for the ride home, we quickly worked out that we now had over 150 years of experience on the back seat ... read more

It's going to be a busy next 24 hours. I'm in Beverly Hills at my new consulting job at Cedars-Sinai. Catch a plane back to Tucson at 6pm, arrive in Tucson at 7:15pm. Go home, do a load of laundry, finish packing and take the 6am flight to NYC through Chicago!!! I'm sure we will sleep on the flight to Chicago. My hope is to go to dinner in NYC then to the top of Empire State Building or The Top of the Rock (Rockefeller). We will be in NYC until Saturday then getting on a ship to cruise up the coast to enjoy the autumn colors. We are going with friends: Annie, Bobbie, Denny, Minnie, Jack, Richard and Janice. Day 20 - Strolling around Beverly Hills!
Published: September 20th 2011North America » United States » California » Los Angeles » Beverly HillsSo today was a bit of an 'in-between' day - our only full day back in Hollywood before moving on to Santa Barbara tomorrow. We decided that we would make the most of being back in Hollywood and take a bus down to Beverly Hills to see if we could spot any celebrities! We woke up at around 8:30, and got showered and ready. Craig wasn't feeling too hungry for some reason (probably due to the cheesecake last night!), so Emma had some cereal which was complimentary at the motel. We came back to the room for a little while and Emma spoke to her family on Skype, and to say Happy Birthday to her Mom as it was her 50th today! Once we were ready to leave, we walked down to Sunset Boulevard (about a ... read more
Sydney to Los Angeles
Published: July 27th 2011North America » United States » California » Los Angeles » Beverly HillsWhat an amazing 4 days we have had….Los Angeles certainly is the land of the ricj=h and famous! I will start from the beginning back when we were in Sydney International Airport. Peter and I were sitting waiting to board our flight and as usual, Im looking around, scanning the crowd when Im suddenly drawn to someone I thought I knew….In my head, I began thinking “Oh My God, Oh My God, Oh My God”….I tapped Peter but the words wouldn’t come out! Eventually I got the words out.. ”Peter, Its Russell Crowe” and at that Peter followed him as he thought I was telling some lies!! Well he soon found out that in fact Russell Crowe had just walked past us, wearing black Adidas Track Pants and a black long sleeved top he boarded our ... read more
Beverly Hills 90120
Published: July 1st 2011North America » United States » California » Los Angeles » Beverly HillsThe plan for today is to take a tour of Beverly Hills. This tour was not the usual buy a map of the stars and drive yourself nor was it a big red tour bus. This was the latest high tech way to sight see--The Segway Tour. After viewing the instruction video I was more than intimidated and thinking why am I doing this, real bodily harm can happen here?!? But our guide assured us that we will be fine. A short practice in the parking lot gave me a little bit of confidence and off we went negotiating the sidewalks and streets of Beverly Hills. It was soooo cool! The bumps and cracks in the sidewalks was always a hold your breath moment as was crossing the 4 lanes of traffic considering the drivers of ... read more
La Brea Tar Pits
Published: April 15th 2011North America » United States » California » Los Angeles » Beverly HillsToday we caught two buses across town to the Tar Pits where we saw the worlds's biggest collection of recent fossils of creatures living 10-12,000 years ago. It was a childhood dream of Trish's to see this place. As an Anthropologist it is a trip to a significant place in history. Well it didn't disappoint. We got up close and personal with a range of bones and smelly oozing bitumen. We even got a battery charger for our camera. Trish forgot to pack ours. Now that will be worth points. We made a brief visit to the sculpture garden but I guess we were pretty much "museumed out". People are really helpful and kind. The bus service is really good. It feels safe and a happy place for most, but we have heard 3 or 4 ... read more
LA Central Here We Come
Published: April 15th 2011North America » United States » California » Los Angeles » Beverly HillsHad a cool day. Don't ask what the taxi from Anahiem to the central city cost but we got a city tour and visited many of the sites all over the city and met a really nice taxi driver. We found our Hotel is a dollar bus-ride from Santa Monica Beach and Venis Beach. So we rocked on down to the surf and had a fun day people watching and flying the NZer Flag. Penny the Penguin had a fun time hanging out with the hunks from Muscle Beach. I would have taken my shirt off and joined them but Trish felt I could well have upstaged them. So being a polite New Zealander I just carried on quietly. Saw some amazing things and rode the Roller Coaster and Ferris Wheel. Second childhood I guess. Went ... read more
Day 43 - Los Angeles
Published: January 30th 2011North America » United States » California » Los Angeles » Beverly HillsJust a flying visit to LA. Stayed in Millenium Biltmore hotel. The reception is huge and very grand with artwork on ceilings and wood panelled walls. City centre seemed dead on first arrival but the shopping areas weren't too far away. Day 2 took a tour of Hollywood. Well worth doing if you have limited time and no transport. The tour included Hollywood bowl, Beverley Hills, Avenue of Stars, Sunset Boulevard and great views of LA. ... read more
