Day 21: Universal Studios We started the morning bright and early to get ready for the day at Universal Studios. We caught an Uber there then brought the tickets. Dad got us the express tickets which means that we get to skip the normal line and go in the express lane but you can only use these tickets once at every ride, after that you have to go in the normal lane. Once we got in the theme park we split up Bella and mum went together because they like the calm rides and not the scary one. And dad and I went to together to go on a few scary ones. The first ride dad and I went one was a simulator Transformers ride. At one point we jumped off a skyscraper which was quite ... read more

Visibility was limited by the haze which apparently usually lasts until early afternoon, before burning off. Pete and Erin also said it doesn't rain in LA. They can only remember light showers on about three occasions in the ten months they've been here. Then a trip to Rodeo Dr which was closed off for a Ferrari festival - 60 years of Ferrari in the USA. They had dozens of Ferraris on display, from the earliest models, to one-off custom made jobs, to the famous super cars. Most had a little blurb next to them explaining the car and its significance. Then a lovely sandwich and beer lunch at the Honour Bar on Beverly ... read more

Day 7 Woke up early and left Rohnert Park by 7:45 a.m. It was just under 7 hours (couple of stops included) and the voyage was over. Kyle and Elise were waiting with lunch and fresh baked cookies. It was great to be home. It was a whirlwind trip - over 2200 miles and 7 states - although a few states we only "passed" through. I wouldn't trade the experience for anything - overall a wonderful way to spend a week! Thank you for reading and sharing this time with me! xoxo ilene... read more

Well, We've been able to make a couple trips out to the west coast since planting ourselves on the east coast. Mostly California. Generally California is not our first choice as the travel time to California, Europe and South America is pretty much the same so we prefer international over domestic. We do have some friends in California so most of these trips were made to visit or celebrate events - weddings, birthdays, baby showers, etc. Food is obviously always the first thing we look for and LA does have its fair share of good restaurants. First up was GORDON RAMSEY AT THE LONDON WEST HOLLYWOOD so we could cross off eating at a GORDON RAMSEY RESTAURANT (actually we already accomplished this, but let's just say we wanted to cross this off in California as well). ... read more

Geo: 34.0729, -118.4Goodbye Norwegian Star Cruise Ship. Hello Hollywood, California! We were actually more than happy to say goodbye to our cruise ship of the last 26 nights. Simply put, it was way inferior to Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruise lines, and just got really boring and repetitive. Disembarking was as predicted, painfully inefficient, just like in Miami. Its likely a combination of the haphazard policy of Norwegian and painful inefficiency of US Customs. Finally, we were off after about an hour and a half in queue. Heres where todays challenge started. We had no idea really how to get from the port in San Pedro, some 30 miles or an hour north to the fringes of Hollywood. Public transport is always my preference, but theres no such option at the port itself. So I decided ... read more

You've seen the sights hundreds of times in the movies or the television coverage of the Oscars and today we were going on a morning tour to see it in person and I was quite excited. After a lovely healthy breakfast the shuttle bus came and collected us to take us to join the other tour members from various hotels for the trip When we arrived there were already lots of waiting day trippers ready to board. The guide pointed out the bus for Tour Number 1 and the crowd surged towards the door. "Ok may I firstly have the group from Channel Rd Inn ?..Result..we do like to walk from the back of the crowd and board first...it sort of makes you feel important! We took the route to the infamous Rodeo Drive and were ... read more

Today I joined a tour which took in the homes of many famous film stars and celebrities. Some of the homes I saw are of Jackie Chan, Jennifer Lopez, George Clooney, Michael Jackson, Cameron Diaz and many others. A particularly big house was owned by a famous rapper named p-diddy. Apart from many rooms it also had 2 Olympic pools one inside and one out, indoor bowling and a cinema. The original owner of this house was a silent film actor named Harold Lloyd. We went on to the sunset blvd which has many restaurants and clubs owned by famous people including Elton John and Rod Stewart, Johnny Depp and Whoopie Goldberg. Finally we visited the Chinese theatre where stars are set into the pavements. Each star shows a name of a famous member from film ... read more
