Alaska is only 6 weeks away; I thought that we had so much time. Last night we sat at the table with maps spread out and the Milepost opened to the routes we plan to take. Years ago we were in Alaska and bought a book for our granddaughter about an Iditarod dog named Kiana who ran the race. As we looked at the maps we saw names of cities that we read in the book, how exciting to think that we will make a long trip where we can see some of the places we read about. We have mostly planned our route and places to visit so now it is a matter of buying the tickets we need and planning our food and getting everything ready. We went out to the RV and started ... read more

Saturday evening, we enjoyed a lovely dinner with friends Jon and Lisa who live nearby, and who remain dear friends to us after leaving Washington State for other pastures some time ago. Last weekend was the annual roundup and branding at the Stockton family ranch near Bakersfield, Bill's family's spread. This is real cowboy country and I was pressed into service. Every boy's childhood fantasy come true, right? Uh, well, not really. Ali and I went down a day early and met up with Bill's brother Zack and two of his friends. Our task was to round up all the calves so when Bill and his son Ethan got down to the ranch branding and castrating could commence. How hard could it be? As it turned out, the hardest part was getting the horses saddled. Which was near to impossible. No one on the ranch seems to ride them with any frequency so they have had plenty of time to plot strategies of escape. There were four horses, ... read more

I've been away from this blog for several months. It isn't that I haven't been anywhere but the trips have all be short usually weekend trips. Lately I’ve been working on claims and have been sick on top of that, not a great situation. But yesterday I started thinking about a trip to Alaska. For two years we have planned to go to Alaska for a grandkids trip. Two years ago we got airplane tickets using our United frequent flier miles, paying the fees for all 6 tickets. The trip was problematic in that the only seats we could get gave us only 5 full days in Alaska, not much time. Then Dale was notified that he had to attend a conference during that week and Sunny found out that she had to register for her ... read more

Merry Christmas Everyone! I hope you all have enjoyed your Christmas. We left hell, uh, I mean Vallejo, on Thursday morning. Did a little more driving that we had wanted, but made it here before dark. We took highway 12 down from Fairfield. It was a beautiful drive but a bit bumpy, and there were a couple of bridges that made me feel a little more than uneasy until we got past them. They looked WAY too low. We drove past an arae of hundreds of windmills that were truly gi-hugic! It was quite a sight. We have had a quiet day here in Bakersfield at Orange Grove RV park. We didn't give each other any gifts, well at least not today. We figure we have given each other enough at this point: 5th wheel; garmin; ... read more

We spent Thursday night at Dos Reis County Park in San Joaquin County, CA. Ok, I didn’t get to see the Civil War on television, but I look forward to seeing the Ducks play in the Rose Bowl. Since there are no longer any college or pro football teams worth watching in Washington State, we must look southward to Oregon for caliber football. But I did get some nice photos at Dos Reis and the San Joaquin River. No, I’m not going to post a photo of the new dent I put in the right hip of The Beast, trying to back up Uncle Joe. After driving all morning we arrived back home this afternoon. Got to talk to the neighbors about the local happenings. The lawn is looking sad, overgrown and brown, I’m sure our local watchdog is not very happy with us. Oh well I clean up next week. For now I’ve got to finish up the work I brought home and we leave for Santa Barbara tomorrow for a couple of days. ... read more

Finally the claims are completed and now it is”sit back and wait for the money” time. In the meantime before China I’d signed Justin and I up for a claims conference with Crawford which takes place in Dallas TX this week. We have signed up for workshops to get our earthquake and flood certification. Justin also will have the opportunity to meet with HR and have the estimating program installed in his computer. I’d wanted to fly but it saves money to drive and pull the RV with both of going. Then on Friday Crawford called and said bring work supplies, they will try to send us out to work since we are ½ way across the country. We have packed up the RV with our computers, printer, scanner; a ton of food and everything work. ... read more
