Hello all, Slept in today till 0700 hours (7:00 am) and then went to breakfast and then to the Honda motorcycle shop. After talking with a service technician I decided that I will change my oil when I get home. Honda recommends oil change every 7-8,000 miles. I only have 3,000 miles. As far as the wobble, his comment was (as well as Honda Corporate), "keep your hands on the handle bars." Duh! He did say it was normal to have a heavy bike like mine wobble at slower speeds when you take the hands off the steering. As for the tire issue...tire good to go...just need to make a tire pressure adjustment because I am running a Dunlop Series III tire and it needs more air pressure. So, all of this cost me nothing...which I ... read more

Well, the journey has begun. My sweetie dropped me off at the airport at around 6AM and I breezed through Anchorage security. Our flight left on time and the flight was reasonably non-eventful, with only a 30 minute delay for landing due to thunderstorms in the Chicago area. Luggage was delayed as well due to lightening strikes, but by 6:30PM (all times will be referenced in local time zones) I was on the shuttle to the Ohare Gardens Hotel, which is located close to the airport.... read more

We were able to stay in Denali National Park at Riley Creek Campground, and with our senior status, at $10 per night. This lovely campground in the forest required that we “dry camp.” Our experience without hookups had been limited to just a few days at a time so we had to learn the real meaning of “conserving.” Located by the restroom with an outdoor water source, we were able to fill containeres and save our water tank for showers, etc. and use the restroom when possible. Well it worked and we still had water and room in waste tanks when we left. We now have the freedom to stay in those exotic places without hookups for a week! That’s good prep for what’s to come in the Kenai Peninsula. Denali National Park did not disappoint! ... read more

It feels like home here at the Homestead RV Park where we just spent our third night. Hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst, we are keeping our fingers crossed that we don’t spend a week waiting for a new radiator. Just before 10 am, we received a call from Sarita at Colonial Honda stating that the radiator had arrived and to come right down and they would install it as soon as possible. Thirty-eight mile drive to Anchorage and 3 hours later, with a new radiator installed under warranty, we headed back to Homestead for the night and will resume our journey tomorrow. (Again we can’t stress enough the wonderful service we received from Colonial Honda in Anchorage. It is very difficult being broken down on the road, and even more so in ... read more

Monday 2nd June 2008 I woke at 6am - Mike at 7.30. We had both slept well, so tired I only woke cos I was cold, I was on the snow side. Overcast morning, drove to Trappers Creek Inn for the most wonderful cooked breakfast. Mike got a Pink Void Tshirt, he loves it. Drove for half an hour - sun was out, pulled over and had an hours sleep beside a lake. Woke refreshed and drove on to Palmer. 'Not alot to do in Palmer' Lisa had said. Watched a movie at the visitors centre, looked at the church of 1000 Poles. Palmer is famous for its giant vegies and state fair, both happen in August. Drove down to Eklutna, went to the historical park. St Nicholas Church (Russian) modeled on Noahs Arc, St Herman ... read more

Thursday 29th May 2008 - Anchorage Slept until 7.30am, yet another sunny warm day in Alaska. Got a coffee and muffin on the go, had it sitting on the water front. Walked around town, looking at the sights, more and different cruis ships in. Went to the Russian Church, State House and statues, just looking. Checked out of the otel and caught a cab (a cadilac and the driver was an excentric, was a fun ride, he liked 'critters and caddies') arived at the Alaskan Brewery. Great fun, we were the only ones there when we arrived, had a couple of complmentry beers when a bus load of asian tourists arrived. Our guide was a hoot and really funny. Half way though the speak we stopped and we had to go fill our glasses - no ... read more

Things are continuing to go great. I am getting to know everyone here a lot better as well as feeling more comfortable in my surroundings. I am not even phased anymore about going to bed in the cold and waking up in the cold. It is just now a part of my life. I have had some different opportunities the past two weeks to go out and explore. But this weekend was great! On Friday (6/6/08) I had the opportunity to go fishing on the Lower Kenai River for King Salmon. I went out with 2 of our guides and a couple other staff members. This has been my second time ever fishing (I went once before with Danielle at her cabin). This adventure started with me waking up at 3:30 in the morning to get ... read more
