Wet bay....not Red Bay. This is a recall problem for the Tiffin RV. We didn't even know about it until we got here and found our Allegro Club friends, Millard & Pat. They came down here because their "wet bay" problem was bad...floor rotted and dropping down under their RV. They can only fix it here and some place in Connecticut. The photos are of THEIR wet bay problem that is being repaired today. The repairmen pull out all the holding tanks and put in a new floor with tray attached now. The test to find out if you have this problem is the service man jams a big screwdriver up through the floor from the outside. If it goes through, you have the problem. It went through for us, so we also have the problem ... read more

Even though I love Swamp John's, this place has it beat a million times over for atmosphere. Our day ended yesterday by going to the Rattlesnake Saloon in Tuscumia, Alabama. It was located in the general vicinity of the Coon Dog Cemetery. This place is part of the Seven Springs Lodge...never got to see the lodge but there were horses all around you could ride. In the field where we parked, a pick-up truck came to take us to the saloon. Clarence was our driver. We sat on benches in the back of the truck and HELD ON FOR DEAR LIFE! Clarence rapidly took us down this very narrow, dirt path road that went straight down along a huge cliff (all in the woods)....better than any amusement park ride. Our ride ended at the bottom of ... read more

It just keeps getting better....it has only been one week (seems like a month) since we arrived in Red Bay, Alabama and we have already seen and done it all! The festivities have been overwhelming. Yesterday, we went to the famous Coon Dog Cemetery. I know all of you have been anxious for this visit and report. I think we had to drive about 15-20 miles to get there as the road narrowed and twisted around like a snake. It was definitely one of those roads you wanted to "walk faster because you could hear the banjo's". It was not the most convenient place for the masters to visit their dogs graves. Hope you can see that Lulu went with us. The coon dog cemetery began in 1937. ONLY coon dogs can be buried here. One ... read more

Another day of excitment here on Runway Alley in Red Bay, Alabama. Cory checked in with "Billy" again to review our status. We are "on the list" and they will be working on our various problems over the next few weeks. May start on "something" next week -- final project will be our back end cap. Still no definite time schedule so we can only sit back, relax and wait. Cory checked out the various works areas: where they remove your entire slideout, where they repair the "wet bays", where they replace the roof rails, etc. So much to see and do here!! Our friends from Tropical Palms are leaving today but our Allegro Club friends will be here awhile. They have a nice lounge where everyone gathers to share their problems and stories. It's very ... read more

One day without writing and I don't know where to start. I guess I shall start with the RV -- the reason we are here. The various "sign-in" people have seen us. The back end cap of the RV has been ordered. He said we should have a new back compartment door so that has been ordered, also. "MY" list of minor repairs for the inside has been noted and they will get to that when the body work is done. While chatting with another couple who are here for the Wet Bay Recall (a part of their floor is hanging down under their RV!!!), we thought we should have them check our rig for this recall along with a couple other recalls. They did and guess what: we have the same "wet bay" probem...our floor ... read more

Dinner last night at Swamp John's. Just as wonderful as I remembered. Best catfish in the country! Murals still awesome. Bars on the window give a homey & secure atmosphere. Bought a Swamp John T-shirt you will envy. We drove to the closest Wal-Mart today....44 miles away in Tupelo, Mississippi (birthplace of Elvis Presley). Just like being at home .....we have to drive forever to get to W-M. More fun things planned while we are here. Going to visit the Coon Dog Cemetery ... Biggest tourist attraction in town. Red Bay has a population of @3400. It is located right on the Alabama & Mississippi border. It is @ 10 sq. miles in size. It has 2 grocery stores: one, Piggley Wiggley, has an eating area in the back where we shall dine, Sunshine Mill, 47 ... read more

HOORAY - We made it to Red Bay! Arrived @ 1:00 PM - we are in the Central Time Zone so seeming to run ahead of schedule. Road to Red Bay (via Tom-Tom) narrowed as we got closer as you may notice in the photos. Cory's comments are now recorded in my small journal. We are lined up with many other Tiffin motor homes as you can see....ours is the one on the left ... You can tell us from the back: drill holes, screws, metal bands & tape. Monday, the service tech visits us to see what needs to be done. From there, we just wait until it's our turn. This will be our location for awhile...another RV'er told Cory he's been here a month for his body work. Going to dine at Swamp John's ... read more

About an hour's drive east from New Orleans is Biloxi, Mississippi. We had pondered spending a night in Biloxi before we arrived. Thereafter, we concluded that we would only be passing through, and quickly at that. Perhaps Biloxi was much nicer in its heyday, and in all fairness, Katrina pretty much wiped this place off the map, but the town lacked any allure from what we could garner in an hour's time. A handful of big casinos were dotted along Biloxi's strip of coastline. We took a stroll through the Hard Rock Biloxi and once inside, you wouldn't be able to tell that you were not in the Hard Rock Vegas but for the thick southern drawl of the majority of patrons. Outside the casino, the ocean is still too brown and merky to be inviting ... read more

JULY 7, 2012 Warrior is a city in Jefferson and Blount counties in the U.S. state of Alabama. At the 2010 census the population was 3,176. It is a northern suburb of Birmingham. The city takes its name from the Warrior coal fields, which J. T. Pierce opened in 1872 in the vicinity. The coal fields were named, in turn, after the Black Warrior River that drains them. The town, which was built on a spur of the L & N Railroad, was originally Warrior Station. The Warrior Post Office (35180) was established in 1872.... read more
