My time in Montreal was short. Jean-Luc, Janice's boyfriend, drove us there from Ottawa. Montreal is a crazy city to navigate by car. Janice, who's from Ottawa and has been frequently to montreal would rather drive in Toronto. The roads were built around existing Montreal. Some highways were built below ground level and some off-ramps are on the left hand side. Insiders tip: stay in the left lane to avoid driving past your exit! We spent Sunday afternoon touring around the Old Port and Old town. It was a quaint area paved with cobblestones. It didn't rain on us suprisingly. There were lots of tourists out and street performers to entertain them. From there, we went to the area of Outremont in search of (supposedly) the best salmon spread in town. I'm not sure if it ... read more

Shannon and I finally arrived in Montreal and met up with our other crazy cousin Benny. We've spent about 2 weeks here now and have had an awesome time around this city. Montreal is a very beautiful city and we have fallen in love with it. We have decided to set up home here for a couple of months and work and have fun and stuff. Yesterday we moved into a house with some other young people we're we plan on staying until the end of June. The house is in a strange area though, It's sort of in the Ghetto of Montreal, so we just need to take care around here, there are alot of strange people walking around the streets. But I love it, It's all part of the travelling experience. We're currently trying ... read more

The journey from New York to Montreal was a bit of a mission, having to go through customs to enter Canada. It all went ok though and everyone on the bus got back on it. Some of the woman were commenting that not all the passageners always get back on! The first thing that hit me when we arrived was the amount of French that is spoken so widely. I knew that many different languages are evident in Canada but just didn’t realise the degree to which they are spoken. It is impressive , especially, coming from the UK were most people only speak English or the little bit of German or French they picked up at school. I would love to be bilingual, although I was never that good at foreign languages at school! I ... read more

The second day Nancy had to work so I was on my own to terrorize Montreal and I hit some pretty interesting sites. As always I was hungry so I needed to grab me some food. I figured that being in Montreal I had to try some regional dishes. Well me and Mikka found ourselves a small little pub on St Catherines St and had a smoked meat sandwich with a pint of Belle Gueule beer. Talk about tasty, this thing was AMAZING. When I first walked into the pub they greeted me in French so I tried my best "bonjour comment c'a va?" which was followed quickly by English only service, I guess my French accent needs some work. After that it was just a matter of randomly wandering around Montreal and I found some ... read more

"Nobody spends any amount of time between the northern shores of Lake Superior and the eastern shores of the Atlantic without drinking a Canadian beer (the good and bad), hearing about hockey and noticing how simple life can be" - Lonely Planet Our Canadian border crossing from Maine to Québec was thankfully fairly uneventful. Our Hawaii license plate didn't seem to be of concern to our very French-Canadian border agent. What seemed to be more curious for him was why I (Marisa) was driving and not Josh. Funny...since HIS WIFE was driving, there must have been some sort of arrest or DUI in his past. After assuring him that Josh had driven the day prior, he let us pass. Once in the province of Québec we felt instantly like we were in another country, which we ... read more
