As we are still enjoying a great summer, I am preparing for my next departure. Immunizations, packing, reading up on my destinations and trying to pick up a few words of Thai, Vietnamese and Hindi. I am here but my head is there already. I want to go before I chicken out as travelling solo is a big deal for me. Anyone interested in joining me along the way is most welcome.

Ahhh good ol Montreal, quite possibly my favourite city in all of North America. I'll be here mainly for my best friends wedding, but I'll be squeezing as much fun as I can on the streets. Anyone who has ever been to the city knows it is a party town with some of the best food found on the continent. Oh and the night life is incredible! So, first thing first is getting all prepared for the wedding. After the tux fitting, in which I look bad ass, we went off for dinner at the most posh place I think I've ever been. Moishes right smack downtown is the place to go. Seriously, if you don't mind dropping at least fifty bucks for a meal, excluding the awesome wine go here http://www.moishessteakhouse.com/ I had a fillet ... read more

Mon 6th Aug 2006 Hi everyone, thanks to those of you who have left messages, it was great to hear from you. We left Toronto at about 10.45am yesterday wth Di driving to go to Ottawa in our lovely blue HHR Chevvy We travelled down highway 401 leaving at Bellvile to take the even more beautiful route by the side of Lake Ontario passing Picton. On reaching Glenora, the road ended and meant taking the 'free' ferry trip across to Adolphustown. (See photo) We then stopped at Kingston which was the capital of upper and lower Canada between 1841 and 1843. (Had to be done due to Lou's surname!!) After lunch by the Marina, (see photo) Lou took over the drive to go the remaing distance to Ottawa - using highway 416 which is the Vetarans ... read more

So this past weekend I went to Montreal with a bunch of my roommates. It was really nice. The city is gorgeous! One thing I noticed right away was that it didn't smell at all like most large cities do, at least the section I was staying in was fine. Everyone had a front garden no matter how small a piece of land they had. The first night there I went with a friend down to the notorius St. Catherine Street. It was a lot of fun and not nearly as sketchy as I expected it to be. There was a lot of stuff to see especially since this weekend had been the Out Games so there were drag queens everywhere! The second day me and my roommate went to the Biodome! It was a lot ... read more

It is the night before I leave Montreal... In less than 24 hours, I will be on a plane en route to Rome, where I will be for all of 12 hours before heading to Spain then Morocco. Absolute madness lies ahead... Just said bye to the girls, who I will miss immensely, cannot believe the summer went by so fast. I expect a Cahier Canada full of stories mailed to me weekly while I am in Italy... My bags are pretty much packed, and even though I am leaving for over 5 months and moving to Milan, the fashion capital of the world, I'm managing to only bring one suitcase and my backpack, a feat if I've ever met one. Who packs light when they have soccer players to meet??? This is the first posting ... read more

Hi! I'm back in Montreal since 5 full days now. I saw most of my friends and family, will see the others in the next weeks, and finally put in order my bag's things that were still leaning on the ground all over my room! This is my last blog, the one that closes everything. My trip in Japan is definitely over, but the memories that come with it will forever stay with me. Japan... very nice country, I reckon. Now I have friends all over the world... geez I'll have to plan all these trips through the next years! hihi. Thanks for people who have been reading this blog and following my crazy adventures. But like my friend Keisuke said at the farewell ceremony; 'Every meeting is the beginning of a separation'... I would like ... read more

July 8 - July 25, 2006 Gettysburg, Pa. - Montreal, Que. 13,556 miles to date 1,217 miles this leg Since we’re in French Canada, the headline must be bilingual: Tomber Amboreaux des Canadiens! Our Montreal host had to reference two dictionaries to properly translate that idiom and conjugate the verb, and that’s but one example of the lengths our new Canadian friends are going for us. The connecting thread of the past two and a half weeks has been the wonderful people we’ve met in an area of the continent where our address book was previously blank. We’ve turned again to the Global Freeloaders website, contacted friends of friends, and even asked point-blank to be taken home by one of the musicians at a concert we attended! (We were, of course.) This story starts in Gettysburg, ... read more

It's simple, Tokyo has been and is still my world wide coup de coeur (what is it in English?). Well it's my favorite place in the world! And it is because of the people I met there and with whom I spent time there! So big thanks to first Yanick and Sebastien and then Keita, Miki, Chris, Mayumi, Jane, Simon, Megumi and all the others that I met on my way! I feel like 'thank you' is not enough... sigh... I'll see you again then! Yeah, I've decided this, I'll see you again! ;) So, place to the pictures now! Jya ne, I miss our crazy nights so much already! Melanie ... read more
