The End of an Era

Published: March 11th 2012North America » Canada » Ontario » London

I have now lived with my University roomates for 4 years! We are all best friends and surprisingly (being 4 girls) we have never fought, which many people are completely shocked by! I am hoping this trend continues on our trip! We have been planning our ideal trip to Europe since second year so we are very excited to go! Therefore in planning my ideal trip to Germany I will be keeping in mind the desires of my friends as well as my own! There are no other people I would rather travel with than these three ladies so it only makes sense that they are included in my ideal trip to Germany! For me this trip is more than just a vacation or the end to University but its the end of four years with ... read more

So What if I'm Broke

It is roughly 2 months before I arrive in Germany. Today I must decide how much money I am going to spend in Germany. Let's be honest I am graduating from University which pretty much means I ain't got a whole lot of funds! But this fact will not stop me from pursuing my dream trip, it just may alter it slightly! My goal for Germany is to spend the least amount of money while still being able to see everything I want so that is what I intend to do! Total Budget For Germany: 600 Canadian Dollars 1 Euro = 1.30397202 Canadian Dollars Rough Breakdown of Budget: Accomodations: $150 Food- $150 Travel: $100 (Because Germany is one country among 6 on my Europe trip I will not include the Eurorail pass price in this) Other: ... read more

We had to take a detour today because of construction, and ended up passing through a small town called Ilderton, just north of London, Ontario. All highways pass through the centre of small towns, and today was their fall fair complete with parade down Main Street. No signs were posted saying Main Street was closed, so we got stopped by a policeman who says "where do you think YOU'RE going". So, we had to wait out the parade, which was about 1/2 hour, but at least we had a great view! Then we got to follow the last participant (which is ALWAYS the firetruck, sirens blaring), and escorted by the police car, sirens blaring, with Sparky, Fire Department Mascot running along side. Everyone was waving at us, so we had to wave back. Lots of cat ... read more

For 3 months English was not the first language of the country or peoples we were visiting, so when we arrived in Ontario and didn't have to translate the signs or ponder the directions of people it was quite a wonderful feeling. I never realized what a beautiful language English really is. Thursday April 14, 2011, Starting at 9:00 am we spent the next 8 hours flying above the clouds towards our home country of Canada. Not home, home to Alberta, but the next best place, Ontario. We arrived at 12:00 pm, went through customs, found our luggage and went to find where the girls would be coming in. We had to only wait about 40 minutes and then there they were. Such a wonderful sight.... to see the ones who hold your heart. I couldn't ... read more

Re·un·ion  a gathering of relatives, friends, or associates after separation Oh my goodness it feels like I haven't written a blog in SOOOOO long. This one might be SOOOOO long. No sleeping while reading, or being read too (Dick)!!!! August 12, 2010. Another stop to a Diner Drive In and Dive. This time we are off to Potterville Michigan. Here we found Joe's Gizzard City. We were sooooo excited to find this place. Plates and plates of gizzards!!!! Does life get any better??? We had gizzards one other time when we dropped Scott off to school in Jamestown North Dakota. We went to the local racetrack and beside me sat a man eating a take away container of "popcorn" gizzards. I was incredibly intrigued but hesitant to get my own whole container, so I leaned ... read more

We left Peterborough at noon for my cousin Bob Emmerton's funeral. He was only 68 years old and died of a massive heart attack. He was at the London Knights hockey game (he used to be their dental surgeon) with Marylou and friends then went out for a nice dinner and started having breathing difficulties when they arrived back at the hotel. Marylou called 911 and he died in the ambulance. It is always great to see family but under these circumstances is difficult. He was a great man and we will miss him. We stayed the night in London and left early the next morning for Indiana. ... read more

Ok ... I will confess ... I am both excited and scared concerning the trip I am about to embark on. I am excited to be travelling to Spain and Portugal, places I have never been. I am excited to be walking the Camino de Santiago through the beautiful countryside of Spain and experiencing the culture and attempting the little Spanish I learned the last few weeks. I am excited to meet new people from around the world and hear their stories and share in their pain and joy. And of course, I am very excited to see my friend Jorg from Germany who has decided to experience his own journey and also walk the Camino de Santiago. So what are you scared about Jules you ask? Well, I am scared I am actually going to ... read more

August 30th 2008

A summer of sober anticipation is coming to an end. I leave for China in less than three days. It is here in these pages that I will make an effort to keep all of my browser buddies whom are interested in my journeys informed. Having survived my anticipation, I will not speculate nor reveal the details of my near future plans aside from itineraries. I am the most excited, anxious, nervous and sleep deprived I have every been. Itinerary: Monday September 1st 2008 08:25 depart Detroit (DTW) flight AA851 08:35 arrive Chicago (ORD) 10:35 depart Chicago (ORD) flight AA289 Tuesday September 2nd 2008 14:05 arrive Shanghai (PVG) Quote: but often it happens you know that the things you don’t trust are the ones you need most so it's cautiously into the dark but you see ... read more
