Ontario Home
Every small or large place we came to has an abundance of historical homes, ones we see occasionally in the west are every where here. Also the main streets have old buildings makes you feel like you have stepped back in time Well we left Thunder bay and after a along days drive we find ourselves at Batchawana Bay on Lake Superior just outside of Sault St Marie. Lake Superior is immense. Its like looking across a freash water ocean and beautiful. The campgrounds were right across from the lake so that evening we dipped our toes in and the water was very warm also the color of the carribean waters (makes me wonder why we leave our country to seek beauty elsewhere-oh yeah cold winters). After we left that area and entered Lake Huron districts the country side is beautiful. Small farms but lush green country side and Amish still farming with horse and wagons for haying. Ontario has so many lakes that they run out of names I think we came across Dad, Mom and Baby Lakes as well as some unpronounceable native names, that we took a guess at. A mention, that a town called Spanish is a few kilometers from a town called Espanola. We decided not to take the ferry across the mouth of Georgian Bay and instead drove through Sudbury and south through Parry Sound to Barrie. Here we stayed the night as it had been another
Lake Superior
This lake is the largest freash water body in the world 8 hour driving day. Next day a wonderful drive through the country side of farming. Larger farms with main crops being wheat, soya beans and corn. I might mention here the wheat has already been harvested as they had a mild winter and were able to get on the land early. The temperature has been in the high 30's for the last week. So Walmart was our host for the night in Sarnia and very hot, thank goodness we had a little rain storm which cooled the air a little. Next morning we left for a membership campground called Rock Glen Resort a pretty little place 2 k outside of the town called Arkona. Which is inbetween London and Sarnia. Here we will stay for 2 weeks to get over the travelling and just take the truck on excursions around the area. Also to visit my U.Eldon and A.Ann. We took today off but will get back at the tourist thing tomorrow.
