And so we face......the final curtain! Time to go home, folks! I know many of us are ready to go home. The World Tour was phenomenal for many reasons - but, there really is NO place like home. Our last day in Iceland was a quiet one - up and at 'em at the hotel - a yummy breakfast and then an enjoyable bus ride to the Blue Lagoon. This is a world-famous location, particularly for people with skin disorders and ailments (such as psoriasis, which I have). There is a hotel and a full spa located at The Blue Lagoon - lots of changes since I was there 4 years ago, too. As we rounded the corner on the highway, people were quite amazed to see that the water really IS BLUE! It's gorgeous - ... read more

Hi everyone, We've had a most enjoyable full day in Iceland today (Thursday) - we had a bus tour of the Golden Circle. While I've been on this tour 2x before, it is always a pleasure to drive through the countryside, enjoy the view and the fresh air, and see it again. We started out at about 9 a.m. and it was still pitch black. I took a photo of the clock on the bus to show you the time and the fact that it was still dark outside - and I was trying to get a good shot of the bus ahead of us, driving into the sunrise. Beautiful countryside - We enjoyed seeing horses, sheep, farmhouses, mountains, the glacier, and so much more. The air was fresh - the winds were howling, quite frankly. ... read more

Greetings from chilly, windy, rainy Iceland - nice land! So refreshing to be in the fresh air (temps this morning were 9 degrees celsius! - not bad!) - beautiful, clean city - awesome, clear, tasty drinking water. We landed at about 4:30 p.m. - had a big tail wind that got us in earlier. One of my photos (look really close!) has a shot of the ice building on the window by my seat on the plane - I knew we were coming into MY kind of temperature! Landing was perfect - getting through airport was perfect - bus ride to hotel was perfect and comfy.........we're happy campers. This is my 3rd trip to Reykjavik - and I love it. Put it on your bucket list - summer or winter. It's unique, friendly, modern, clean and ... read more

Hi everyone - I'm a little behind in the blog - sorry about that. Today was a travel day and we are now in Iceland - I LOVE Iceland but I don't love being behind in the blogs, LOL! Yesterday, we left early morning in the 4 x 4 Explorers, heading for the Atlas Mountains. The photos speak for themselves - but some of the interesting things along the way included: 1) the cactus - I love seeing cactus flowers 2) the kids - all very happy to see us and gave us smiles and big waves 3) the animals - saw lots of goats, sheep, donkeys, etc. 4) the road edges, as we climbed the mountains, that dropped off to......nothing 5) the vistas - the combinations of the snow-capped mountains, the desert, the terrain that ... read more

Here we are - so close to CasaBlanca, that I can feel it! (remember that movie?) We landed in Marrakech on Sunday - and it's been a whirlwind ever since. This is a magical city and should be on your list of travel places, for certain. It is a very beautiful city and we have had a really good time here. The grounds of the hotel are so very zen-like; the air is fresh - the temperature is perfect (mid-20's), the streets are clean, the people are lovely - and the food - ah yes, the food........check out the photos. On our first evening, we had dinner in the dining room of the hotel and it was just perfect. Early to bed, after a day of travel.......... The next day, we started out bright and early ... read more

Hey everyone - we had the most 'amazing' day yesterday in Marrakech!!!!! No pun intended - But, we had a special event planned for the passengers and we had a blast. I am a fan of the show "The Amazing Race" and this particular event (a Treasure Hunt, actually) reminded me of that show - many of us thought about the show. The concept was to get into different teams - of 5 people each - choose a group leader, pick your team color, get your team bag and head to the Medina (the market in the square) and begin the adventure. We all got our 'road map' booklets - giving us specific directions to do, and find and buy, different things in the market. One of our challenges was the language (no different than on ... read more

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi everyone - well, this is the special blog I was talking about - our trip to Gore Island (Dakar). For anyone who has read the book, "The Book of Negroes', this will have special meaning for you - and the photos just bring the whole thing to life. It was quite a 'moving' visit to the Island - and to the Slave House - let alone when we got to the 'door of no return'. (you can see that door in the first photo I uploaded - it is open and gives you the view of the water beyond) Wow. Words cannot describe the emotions we felt as we heard the lecture, moved through the Slave House, saw the women's cells, and then, of course, 'the door'. Very emotional - very moving - very ... read more

(I had to actually edit this/send this on Sunday morning at 7:30 a.m. in the dining room - the internet cut out on me again last night.) It's only 4 p.m. and wow, what a day we've had. Hi, everyone!!! Today was a full day - I did the blog this morning from the dining room because the internet in my room wasn't working - that's not a good thing for me - the master blogger, LOL! Breakfast, however, was superb - including the chocolate crepes. Love starting my Saturday that way. Africa has superp and amazing chocolate, that's all I can say. (Trust me!) So, we were off on the comfy buses and heading to the ferry. I'm getting much better on water - for those of you who were with me on the World ... read more

Good morning from sunny, 'sticky' Senegal! Tried to do the blog last night but, quite honestly, my eyes wouldn't stay open. I knew you would forgive me because it's Saturday in most places of the world where you are following us - and you, too, are relaxing this morning. It's early - we're up and at 'em and heading out on an incredible adventure today. Yesterday, most of us were up early and had a few hours to spend around the hotel in Sao Tome (which was just a fuelling stop/over night for us) - and it was fabulous. Some of the photos show that. Then, on to the bus and to the airport. Everything went so smoothly this morning - but the heat was getting to some people. Sao Tome is the eptiome of H-U-M-I-D-I-T-Y!!!!!!!! ... read more

Hey everyone - greetings from paradise! We landed in Sao Tome this afternoon and I will say - it's like a touch of Paradise. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous - and HOT! It was a pretty uneventful day, actually. We were all up and at 'em at the Keekerok Lodge in Kenya, ready for our early flight back to Nairobi - and then on to our own aircraft and off to Sao Tome. It was a 4 hour 30 minute flight - allowing enough time for lunch, naps, visits, etc. We landed in Sao Tome - very small airport - very small town - absolutely beautiful resort hotel. The view from the terrace is just breath-taking! A few of us hopped in a cab, once we had settled in to our rooms, and headed into town. Sao Tome ... read more
