Although we are back in the land of snow and cold...boo hoo...my travels have not yet come to an end. I spent the last 2 nights luxuriating at the home of my sister and bro-in-law, Jannette and Dave, near South Cayuga. Won't give you a history lesson on that one. Today, I am on the road again. Saw my foot doc this am and I am off to see my boot maker after lunch. I did not know how I was going to work these pictures into the blog. I took these in a store in Fort Lauderdale so I can tell Phil how I want my next pair to look. So I will number these and help me choose the one for me. Jannette purchased a "ho-bag" in this same store--a big silver bag. When ... read more

Thought it was time I told my side of the story!!!!! The time here has just flown, its good to have the odd day like today just to catch up on stuff. I have baked bread for my celiacs and made healthy food for my diabetic! Going to get Tori to dye my hair tonight, going a bit grey from spending so much time with my husband!! Just done grocery shopping (again), and i've decided that I will have to start going by myself or our grocery budget will be blown before we get half way through our trip! We went for milk and cheese and came $70 poorer. Bit of a mission finding gluten free food, we have a much better variety of stuff at home. We have an oven and microwave so we have ... read more

Hello, Well we've completed the heading North part of our trip . You can't go much more north than Canada !! Saturday, we finally got to the mall. Kylie and Tori only got around 1/2 of it. Josh and I went and bought another phone, same as the old one. I managed to change over my old phone number and the minutes that were left on it too. So that was a bonus. They are only $40 and you get 300 minutes with it. Came home , got organised and went to the New Egypt speedway to meet up with Tommy and Ethan. $15 to get in and kids free, they had a Christmas in july thing going on. Santa and Mrs Claus were there and they did a raffle for bikes, radios, 26" LCD tv ... read more

Can't sleep right now. too excited about the trip. I'm trying to load a video onto my PSP so i can watch it on the plane or something. they proly have movies playing but they're proly old or sucks. Hope I can keep myself occupied for 18 hours. it's a direct flight from TO to HK. i guess i should sleep on the plane. I hope I don't get jet lag. i actually never gotten jet lag before, even on past trips to asia. What I'm concerned (slightly) is being quarantined. That won't be fun at all since it'll waste our vacation time. Even if we are healthy but just so happen to be on the same flight as a sick person, the whole plane will get quarantined upon landing. If they're gona do that, wait ... read more

I left Calgary back in early September for my Canada World Youth adventure. It's hard to believe, but three months have now passed in Hamilton, ON, and now I'm off to New Delhi, India tomorrow! I admit, my initial reaction to living in Hamilton was mainly disappointment. Everything I had heard about this city was that it is very dirty, rough, blue collared, polluted and poor. I guess I would still have to agree with a lot of these things, but perhaps it's not to the same extent that I had been told, and there definitely is a lot more to this city than these negatives. For example, there is the Niagara Escarpment that runs right behind the home that I was staying, so there were some nice 'hiking' trails. I would also have to say ... read more

My plans to go to a friend’s for thanksgiving unfortunately fell through and so spent the weekend on campus. Luckily enough however, my friend Anna also stayed here and so one crisp, autumn, Sunday afternoon we went for a walk into Coots Paradise, the nature reserve adjacent to the campus. We followed a path behind one of the residences into the woods and down to the lake. Now I’d heard that autumn in Canada was amazing but to be honest it didn’t exactly sound that remarkable; I mean leaves change colour in England too. However, when you put thousands of these trees together and then place them all next to a lake, well I have to admit, it’s pretty spectacular. It wasn’t just that however, but the colours of the leaves themselves seemed a lot brighter ... read more

So as some of you have pointed out (in one case repeatedly; thanks), I haven’t actually written that much since welcome week. The reason for this is simple; not that much has happened. I am living in a country where students actually work. Where people will choose homework over going out. Where pretty much everyone goes home for the weekend. Coming from a country where procrastination is considered both a sport and an art form, and where getting out of your home is the main reason people go to university, this is a bit of a culture shock for me. It has also meant I haven’t been doing as much with my free time as I thought I would have done. The fact that you can’t walk into the town, and reports that it is “sketchy ... read more

So Thursday came, and with it came classes. Somehow in all the madness of the first few days I’d managed to forget about the whole work side of Uni; the real reason why I was here. Every building at Mac has an acronym so asking for directions made me sound like some sort Bond girl. My Thursday timetable said I was in TSH, BSB, MDCL and PC. Not only that, but every building has a ridiculous number of rooms and apparently very little logic to them. (I’m still trying to work out how BSB340 isn’t the room immediately above BSB240.) Luckily enough my first class was with Sarah, one of my flatmates who’d not only been to the campus before, but also had a map. We set off in search of TSH120 a good half an ... read more
