The reason for my visit to Vancouver, in British Columbia, Canada, was for a powerlifting competition that I was taking part in, representing the England Powerlifting Team, during December 2015. This was, of course, an exciting opportunity, as well as a perfect chance for me to explore. I’d never been to Canada, and what better time than to go in the winter, I literally couldn’t wait; from what I’d heard of it, it sounded amazing! Typically, Vancouver doesn’t get covered in snow during the winter and the temperatures rarely go below freezing point, as other provinces do, and as I almost always feel the cold, this appealed massively to me. The competition took place, and we stayed, in ... read more

Getting packed up for our summer vacation to Vancouver, B.C. Canada. It's our first time to this city, so it's very exciting for us. It's a 3.2 hr., direct plane ride from Phoenix to YVR (the big airport), so that's not too bad. It was 109 here today in Tucson, so Vancouver should be a nice change of pace with regard to weather! Their high was 70 today!!! It's coincidentally going to be Canada Day while we are visiting, the 150th celebration of the countries existence. So it should be a really interesting visit. We haven't done a ton of planning. We'll be there one week, and we just want to relax and enjoy a new place, a vibrant city. Tonite we r packing. I have checked in with Air Canada, via cell phone. Paperless tickets. ... read more

With our bags in the hall by midnight, we once again found ourselves with the realization that another cruise was rapidly coming to a close; and, Sharon is now working on her fourth one-hundred days at sea! More than one “ear worm” plagued us during this journey. I remember humming one tune with new lyrics: “Do you know the way, to Prudoe Bay,…” Now, all I’m hearing is “I’m leaving, on a jet plane; Don’t know when I’ll be back again…” Well, perhaps that isn’t precisely true. We seem to visit Alaska every other year; so, we will see. We had to wait until the end of our projected time slot before PINK-2 was announced for disembarkation. We found our bags and then went over to “The Man in Green”. Sharon insisted I was headed the ... read more

As I am such a small baby, I don't really know where I have been or where I am going. I know I have come off a thing called a yacht and I know it bounced around on the sea, but apparently I slept. Lucky me. When we got to somewhere called Toronto in a country called Canada, it was very late and the place where planes go called an airport, was nearly empty except for us.. This is where we said goodby to mamie. I am not quite sure who she is but she is with me a lot and sometimes looks after me. She must have something to do with mummy and daddy. Mummy and daddy thought she was quite funny because she kept having something called accident( s). First she went into a ... read more

Saturday night Du's Mom, May, came down and we took part in the Chinese practice of burning play money to honour our ancestors. It was to bring us good luck on our trip, and I have to say that so far it seems to have worked. Sunday morning I took off from Du and Emily's about 6:30 am. Both Michele and I wanted to leave Vancouver when the traffic was lightest - thus Sunday morning. The streets were nearly empty, and for a large part of the way I utilized Vancouver's excellent bike trail and dedicated lane system. It was 40 km from Emily's house through Vancouver to the bridge over the Fraser to Pitt Meadows - I was there by 8:30 which is good time for me finding my way through the big city. I ... read more

This trip to Canada was completely on a whim. After some… Rather unfortunate events, I found myself needing to just... Go. Post military life was getting to me and school wasn't enough. So I just... went. I didn’t think about roaming charges and I had no idea where I was going to sleep. “I’ll just pull over to the next gas station.” I thought to myself. I pulled up to an Esso station where my intent was to buy a map. Instead, when I walked into the station, where my eyes enlarged at site of Kinder eggs. After carefully selecting a few awesome goodies, I almost forgot about my map halfway through the purchase. Laughing at my situation, the clerk asked where I was heading. I told him I had no idea, that I’d grabbed clothes ... read more

After falling asleep in the wee hours of the morning, we barely noticed the 10 x 10 foot size of our hotel room, with an additional 10 x 6 foot bathroom which actually seemed much more spacious in comparison. The morning light barely filtered in through our third floor window which had an excellent view of the neighboring building about ten feet away. Still we managed to drag ourselves down to the Tim Hortons on the corner. The line wasn’t quite out the door; but, we seemed to have a fifteen minute wait. We seemed to be in a bustling part of downtown Vancouver on a Friday morning. Many locals were popping in for a donut and coffee. I ordered the breakfast bagel with bacon and Sharon went with the chocolate chip muffin. I also got ... read more

We had to hang some of the clothes that we’d washed the day before overnight to get them completely dry. By morning they were dry and we finished packing before going down for breakfast. We checked at the front desk to confirm that checkout was at noon; and, this time Sharon had remembered correctly. We hung out in the room until about 10:00AM. I thought that I had left Sharon plenty of room with Sudoku; because, my score was only 75% (with us, it’s usually tough to win with less than 90%, although, you never know). She managed to score in the sixties (although, she may edit this and assert that it was the high sixties). Needless to say, today was starting out pretty good for me. We really had planned to stay another hour in ... read more
