Background: A land of vast distances and rich natural resources, Canada became a self-governing dominion in 1867 while retaining ties to the British crown. Economically and technologically the nation has developed in parallel with the US, its neighbor to the south across an unfortified border. Canada's paramount political problem is meeting public demands for quality improvements in health care and education services after a decade of budget cuts. The issue of reconciling Quebec's francophone heritage with the majority anglophone Canadian population has moved to the back burner in recent years; support for separatism abated after the Quebec government's referendum on independence failed to pass in October of 1995.

Vancouver, Banff, Calgary, through Montana, Via Fargo (North Dicota), through Minnesota, Dyersville (Iowa), Dodgeville (Wisconsin) Day 56 - Monday 11.05.2009 It was time to leave Vancouver and drive what we thought then was a long 9-hour drive to Banff. After our usual morning fuckeries and saying goodbye to Baby (by far the best thing here) we left at 1pm. It was second hangover day and as some of you might appreciate the toxins were definitely still leaving our bodies. We had to make a toilet stop at least every 30 minutes. With that and getting lost one million times, it was [View Full Entry]

Bonjour! This past weekend I was spoiled as both LA and Jos came up to visit me. I had a lot of fun sharing some of my experiences in Vancouver with them. We were able to see Stanley park, observe the tail fluke of the baby beluga at the vancouver aquarium poking out as she gave birth the day that we were there and visit granville island. I would say that without a doubt it was my favourite weekend in Vancouver. I have always felt that 'travelling' on my own would be exactly what I wanted but having been out here [View Full Entry]

Bonjour Mes Amies! How are you all doing? I miss everyone so much and am really happy that you are all reading and enjoying my blogs. This blog is an update on my new found perspective and love of Wreck Beach and it's evenings. The sunsets here are incredible, in fact, they are said to be one of the best places to view the sunset (mom, you would just love it). The atmosphere is much less intimidating than during the day - there are fewer people (99% of whom are clothed), the beach is beautiful and the sunset is amazing. I [View Full Entry]

Hello all, We hope everyone is well. We had a few days off work so went into Vancouver for some sightseeing and nightlife. The weather was perfect, mid to high 20's, no clouds and cooler nights. We arrived late on wednesday, cos we had both been working bad hours, I was working for 5 in the morning and vince had been working til 3 in the morning, so we got in, checked into a hostel in the middle of town and went out for dinner and sightseeing. Vanocuver is really easy to get around, you can pretty much walk anywhere but [View Full Entry]

Molly sets her tee up on the 15th green. Above, black crows and seagulls and eagles swoop in and out of view between tall pines. The smell of lilacs and sea and cut grass wafts on the air, the breeze a forgiving pace and temperate compared to the harsh winds off the Pacific on Manly beach only a week ago. The sun is warm on my shoulders, and even the clouds seem complacent to shift and dissipate on the affable blue canopy. Framing the sky, the Rockies sink slowly into azure as the day nears dusk. My heart is quiet and [View Full Entry]

And it was graduation morning. I was so glad to see that the weather was cooperating - no more early morning downpour like yesterday. I left the hotel early in order to make sure that we would get to the ceremony on time or early. I picked up my sister, brother-in-law and Brigette at the apartment (Priscilla left already earlier) and drove straight to Chan Shun Concert Hall at the campus of University of British Columbia (UBC). The test run yesterday was great and I had no problem finding our destination. Parking was another issue though. The spaces were all so [View Full Entry]
