What has struck us about Alaska is how clear the air is. Perhaps this impression is influenced by the wonderful weather we've enjoyed? We pottered around Juneau in the morning. As capital of Alaska, although the population is only 32,000, it's not very touristy - diverting rather than an absorbing experience. And no, we didn't bump into Sarah Palin!! In the afternoon, fortified by coffee, we rode the cable car up Mt. Roberts. We took one of the so-called moderate trails at the top - too steep to be called moderate and the intermediate trail looked daunting!! Most of the snow has now melted at this level and we didn't see much wildlife, other than the occasional hovering bald eagle. However, the views were spectacular, and made the effort worthwhile!!
