Sorry for such a late start to my blog! It has been incredibly busy here and sleep has been a luxury with the days being so intense so I only just got round to starting it! Quite a bit of time to catch up now so I will post different bits of the course in different blogs and hopefully catch up with myself at some point! Arriving in Vancouver was an immediate culture shock and you notice how sincerely polite and lovely literally everyone is which I have never experienced in any other country! Even the lifties and bus drivers are jolly as you like! After a 2 hour wait at immigration to get my work permit, the drive through Vancouver was awesome, it is a proper massive city with huge sky scrapers and bits of ... read more

Got to the ferry terminal just in time! Packed ferry with both cars and walk ons. Doug and I splurged and went into the pay lounge so we could get a seat. Even though the weather sucke the crossing was smooth and on time. Tony & Jenny picked us up and we headed out to Korea bbq for dinner. We ate way to much but had a good visit and caught up with our lives. Jenny found out that Doug had never had Bubble Tea so she decided that it was now her misssion to break Doug's bubble tea viginity. Off we went to Vancouver to chill at the bubble tea shop for a while. With all the rain, we were happy to arrive at the aiport and said our good-byes to Jenny, Tony and the ... read more

Waking up a teenager at 4:30 am is never fun EXCEPT when it is to catch a plane! Julia and I were up early and at the airport by 6 am to catch our flight. Unfortunately the airline ‘gods’ were not on our side and our flight was delayed by an hour. No biggie but that extra hour sleep would have been welcome by all. By 8:00 am we were in the air and on our way. A turbulent flight was announced and felt for the first hour and a bit but then things settled down and smooth air was ours. I loved witnessing Julia’s excitement as the first mountains came into view. Photos from 34 thousand feet were taken and that is when it really hit us that we were actually going to get up ... read more

Waiting in Vancouver...

This morning I got a cab to take me to Victoria Station. There was no way I was lugging all my stuff on the tube at 6 am in the morning. I was just in time to catch the next Gatwick Express train, and surprisingly, it was way nicer than the one I'd taken when I first arrived in London. Then I realized I was sitting in first class. Duhhhh. When I arrived at Gatwick I checked in and shopped for a bit, then made my way to the gate. It didn't seem like I waited that long. The plane was only about twenty percent full, it was amazing. I got four seats to myself. It was the best flight I have ever been on. An eight hour flight only felt like three hours. I even ... read more

The day had finally arrived! It was strange that I didn’t start to feel reallyexcited until about a week before I left, even though I had booked my trip months in advance. I woke up at about 3 am, and immediately had butterflies in my stomach. I was so nervous! I couldn’t believe that I was off to Europe alone, and it felt very strange. I was worried about getting homesick, but I knew two weeks would fly by. I got ready, packed my remaining items, and my parents and sister drove me from our home in Duncan to the ferry terminal in Nanaimo. I live on an island on the west coast of B.C., and basically any flights from Victoria (the main city) are ridiculously expensive, so it was cheaper to travel by land (and ... read more

I got 10 days...that's my plan anyway. But as long as I get some kaya toast I'll be good. It's 00:00 and I am enjoying the lounge in the international side of YVR despite the 11:15pm closure (I knew they wouldn't kick us out;). So before I know it we'll be ready to board (yay). This is an ok lounge. I actually prefer the US Maple Leaf better. They have moved things around but I was still able to find the fridge no prob. Am disappointed they only have 'Molson' on tap now! Use to be lovely microbrew selection. For that I think I'll have to down grade my previous rating from 9 to 8! I am hoping it is only Olympic fallout and they will be back on the micro track in no time! Oh...I ... read more

Well here we go.. An hour delayed at first department allowing me enough time to quickly write a little introduction to this journey. I firstly want to say thank you for all the support and interest in this journey. There are over 200 people registered with my travel blog so far and the support is breath taking! This journey is not just about giving back to the world but reconnecting with what I first experienced in Africa the first time; community and being in the present moment. My life has always been about "What next?" this journey is about "What is now" and "What can I do to continue this movement I started on two years ago?" I will be in London for a day, for the first time, connecting with a lovely friend I have ... read more
