Had to pack our bags this morning, last time, unfortunately time to go home. Had breakfast again in a Paris cafe, stood in a long line to checkout, then taxi to Las Vegas airport. It is huge, planes coming and going all the time! Then a 2 hour, 40 minute flight back to Vancouver, and an 8 1/2 wait for our connecting flight to Sydney.... read more

First on our agenda today (after another lovely breakfast downstairs), was the laundry! Walked to the coin laundry recommended by the hotel, and realised that just one block from where we are staying on Robson St, one of the main shopping streets in Vancouver, was a quiet, residential neighbourhood, with trees, apartment buildings, and even some houses. Managed to fumble our way through the washing machine and dryer nightmare, and were back at the hotel (with clean clothes) by early afternoon. Our plan then was to go to Flyover Canada, and then (hoping the clouds lifted a little bit) up the Vancouver Lookout Tower. Walked down to Canada Place (the tourist zone on the waterfront), saw 2 cruise ships in port, and bought our tickets for Flyover Canada. I thought this was a movie about Canada ... read more

Nach meiner ersten Nacht im Samesun Hostel habe ich erstmal richtig beim Frühstücksbuffet zugeschlagen. Kostenlos, also essen bis zum Umfallen. Dann noch ein paar organisatorische Sachen erledigt, bis zum Aufbruch um 10 Uhr. Mit dem kostenlosen Shuttle Bus ging es dann Richtung North Vancouver zur Suspension Bridge, einer sehr langen und berühmten Hängebrücke. Es gibt auf der Waldseite der Brücke einen Weg, der wie in einem Hochseilgarten von Baum zu Baum verläuft. Leider hat es schon ziemlich früh angefangen zu regnen, was dem ganzem Erlebnis einen negativen Beigeschmack gegeben hat. Aber es hat den Wald nur noch interessanter wirken lassen. Von der Suspension Bridge ging es dann mit einem Linienbus zum Fuß des Grouse Mountain. Mittlerweile schüttete es wie aus Eimern. Die letzten Tage in Reykjavik waren eher uninteressant, da das Wetter ziemlich schlecht war. Dunkelheit, Kälte und Wind. Da wird das kleine Hotelzimmer schnell zur Zelle. Am 15. Januar habe ich um 11.30 Uhr ausgecheckt und mich auf den Weg zu einer Bushaltestelle gemacht, von wo aus ich zum Flughafen gelange. Zum Glück bin ich eine Stunde früher los als nötig, da ich einen Bus verpasst habe. Ich konnte nicht online für den Flug einchecken, wahrscheinlich weil die beiden Flüge von verschiedenen Airlines sind. Im Flughafen in Keflavik gibt es nur Self-Check-In Automaten, bei denen ich anfangs ein wenig überfordert war, da ich so etwas ja noch nie zuvor gemacht hatte. I knew it was going to be a long day. Waking up at 7:00 am to tie up many loose ends before my 6:40 pm flight. I had to finish packing, squeeze in one last ride on the motorcycle, attempt to see the doctor, and go to my parents house. Exchanging money took especially long because I had forgotten that it was the BC Day long weekend and many people were heading stateside. I cleaned up and thought I had left enough of a buffer so I could take my time getting to the airport to avoid rushing and sweating.
