July 17 Harrison Hot Springs to Jasper First off there is no ice in Canada. Its frustrating for people like us who like iced drinks that we can't pull into a gas station and get an icy diet coke. Most of them just have pepsi. Ugh! The day started with a breakfast to the Lakeview Restaurant. The view of the lake was vey scenic. The town was built by tourism. There are hot springs accessible by walking up a mountain or 4 wheel drive. There are also manmade hot springs in the town but we were told they smell bad. The lake has a sandy beach and seemed to be enjoyed by lots of families. We drove 444 miles to Jasper stopping at Kamloops where we were lucky to find an A & W for lunch. ... read more

14th July We woke early after a good night sleep at Mary's motel in Golden. We know there are bears about as there were some rubbish bags shredded to bits outside the Kicking horse grill, but we are just not going to see any! We made a reasonably early start after Amy had done her run and we had had breakfast at the Golden bakery on main street which was delicious. We arrived at the Canyon hot springs at about 12.30 and spent about an hour and a half relaxing in the thermal water which was about 40 degrees. We had a long drive through the mountains to Kamloops on our way back to Vancouver and the coast. We reached Kamloops about 4.00p.m and while Bob got the computer out Rich and Amy and I went ... read more

Today we went up the Gondola. There was a choice of Whistler of Blackcomb. I went up whistler. Blackcomb was still snowing (yes in summer) so those up there had to dress warm. Whistler still had snow everywhere but you could wear shorts and a t-shirt easy enough. On the way up you could see bears on the mountain. Well some were so lucky. All I could see was the mountain bike riders everywhere. That looks pretty cool. Whistler mountain takes about 30 minutes to get to the top. Up the top the view was amazing. It was so pretty. Probably half of us did not realise we had tickets that actually took another chair right to the very top. So Cat and I didn't make it up there, others did though. We has a little ... read more

A very long drive today…. Yesterday we had snow…. Today we had 30c heat !.....can you believe it ?? We spent a little time in Jasper this morning, before leaving about 10am, we knew we had a long drive ahead, but we didn’t know, how hot it would be….. a real shock to the system. As we drove south along highway 5 we followed the Nth Thompson river, the scenery changed from snow covered mountains to open farmland. Pine trees disappeared and were replaced by forests of silver birch and maples. Kamloops is in a semi arid zone, now the mountains are small parched and treeless…… what a difference 450ks make ! Along the way, the railroad mirrored the road, travelling along by the waters edge and snaking through the valley floor. Now we see ... read more

Hi Everyone, Well it appears that the law of attraction is moving full speed ahead. We have sold the house, I am now umemployed, Bill is enjoying his holidays before his leave, and yes it is a little surreal. We have been dreaming of this day for a long time... We are now in the process of packing, packing, packing and giving stuff away. I can't believe the amount of STUFF we still have. Scary! I promise I will never be a pack rat again. You are all witness to that. Our plans are to leave Kamloops Dec 4th to visit friends and family in Vancouver and the island until Dec 17 approximately. Our first stop will be Fiji - I can't wait. I have been freezing this past week. It doesn't help that I packed ... read more

After finding a place to stay last night at a camping ground I went for a walk up to this lake on top on a hill about 400m up, was a realllly nice hike with lots of weird rock formations and when I got to the top had a real nice swim in a warm lake, wicked! Hitched to a town called Kamloops today, only took 2 rides. Staying the night with another random I meet off couchsurfing.com, real cool guy, took him dumpstering for the first time, sadly no luck, but we did get to meet some homeless guys who told us about all the dumpsters in the city and gave me some good advice if I wanted to find some work (Not that I'm going to ;) the Canadian authorities warned me I'd get ... read more

Well, it was with mixed feelings that i have left my surrogate home in wellington. Funds almost exhausted, course complete, and lots of friends leaving, spurned me to make a final decision to take the road show somewhere new. Looks like i will be back here for a few weeks maybe a few months, but saving for the next journey. It has been a great trip. Singapore to australia, australia to New Zealand. Wrought with ups and downs and new friends (and in some cases enemies lol). But as the saying goes, the fun has to stop sometime. So after an early morning 13 hour bus ride to auckland, a shuttle to the airport, a flight to singapore, then a sleep in the airport, then a flight to South korea, then another flight to canada, i ... read more

***CLICK ON PHOTOS TO ENLARGE*** 11th June 2006 Vancouver to Yale - 15 hrs in the saddle Total distance = 191km - incl. 6km the wrong way 8 litres of water and only 2 comfort breaks!!!!! Well the big moment has arrived and its time to say goodbye to beautiful Vancouver. I was up at 4.30am today to avoid the traffic whilst I made my way out of Vancouver City and into the lowlands en-route to Yale. The route I will be following up to Prince George is tracking the old 1880’s Cariboo Gold Rush Trail. There should be plenty of history to absorb, as I make my way through settlements that were started by the first prospectors and explorers, many of which didn’t ever strike it rich. However, many of those that did strike ... read more
