October Thanksgiving weeks: Well, this was an eventful couple of weeks for sure. Here’s a rundown with details to follow if you want to read more as I sense this might be a long entry. We took two weeks away from Yellowknife. Dakotah and I went hunting with my Dad near Salmon arm for a few days, then Dakotah and I did some visiting in Kamloops. She enjoyed spending that time with her friends and went to school for a day. I spent some time with friends and got engaged to Tim. Then we went back to hunting again, out to Lumby this time. While we were in Kamloops, Dad and Mike got a moose and we were successful in getting a deer out in Lumby area. We spent some time visiting cousins out that way ... read more

Me again - We left behind out timeshare base at Harvie Heights, Canmore and set off on the long journey to Vancouver - we didnt quite know where we were headed but had several plans - all dependiong on how tired we might get with the driving. Great weather again and quite abit warmer - we have been so lucky with the weather. As we left without brekki we stopped at cute little town of Field ( I was interested in this location as it is near to the Burgess Shale - famous for Fossils which changed the way we think about evolution - well God was working overtime if he put all then there!!) Lovely little houses there lots of B&Bs and a great cafe - which had aspecial on that day especially for Suzanne ... read more

Mike: We finally caved - checked into a (cheap) motel in Kamloops and enjoyed the first shower in 10 days. Needless to say, we needed it... Today we biked 125km - the farthest in a day so far! The road was quite wild, perhaps adding to our motivation of getting to Kamloops. The morning was great - a quick nearly all downhill jaunt down to Little Fort from Clearwater - but the uphills soon appeared, and the shoulder almost disappeared. We biked for 7.5hours... which started to wear on the nerves due to all of the logging / industry trucks passing us - loud, stinky, and close enough to touch. That's not even mentioning the hundreds of oversize load trucks on the two-lane mountain road... The landscape has changed drastically since we first arrived in BC ... read more

I pulled out of Medicine Hat with a tinge of sadness. I know I won’t be seeing Jayne, Kev or the girls for quite a while. My trip to the Banff National Park Tunnel Mountain Campground went well. I even pulled out a lawn chair and read a few chapters of my book! I didn’t take any pictures of this part of my trip because I already have posted several. I have been through this area three times this year and I think I will always be blown away by the beauty. The sky was cloudless on Wednesday morning so I got going early; my trip to Sicamous was about three hundred miles. I was glad that I had made that decision because there is a lot of road construction going on and the maximum speed ... read more

Two more days of packing and cleaning and we are starting our drive North. My trip to Calgary yesterday went off without a hitch. Fly in Fly out.. and a day is gone. Today we pack the truck (which is hopefully all of the fixed now) I had a few surprises this last week with the truck that I was soooo glad for, since it happened BEFORE we were on the road. Tomorrow we clean and ready the house for our friends to come live in, Dakotah comes back from Camp. Big Thank You's to my Uncle Barry and Aunt Bernadette for bringing her home and saving me an extra 8 hours of driving. It will take us three days to get to Yellowknife, a total of 25 hours of driving. First stop will be Grand ... read more

Our newest adventure is coming up soon. Dakotah and I are heading up to Yellowknife. We'll be there for the school year as I take on a job assignment. We're taking an extra person with us too. Talitha, a wonderful young girl is going to come stay with us. If you followed our last adventure then you know Talitha's family, the Knightlys who we visited in Namibia. Talitha is thier oldest daughter. We'll be staying in govenment housing, an un furnished townhouse. The biggest challenge today is figuring out how to pack my little pickup truck with 10 months of stuff for three people, a dog, and two birds. Second biggest challenge is getting my house ready for our friends to live in it through the winter. If anybody knows people up there for us to ... read more

Back down from the mountains and an increase in temperature. Kamloops in July is hot! hot! hot!. Time to unwind and Gary (Fluffy to his friends) to get a haircut. We had the opportunity to see a logging competition. Men wielding big, sharp axes at huge logs for fun and all sexes flinging similarly large axes at targets. Scary stuff! Seeing the double edged axe miss the target and career towards the cars parked nearby. It is certainly a jaw dropper. Monday found us in the heart of Vancouver, staying in the Cambie Hostel in Seymour street, a great location, but the rooms and shared areas are small and the room was above a bar. It has a great bar underneath which produces nice food but its on a noisy main street so unless you are like ... read more
