14th July
We woke early after a good night sleep at Mary's motel in Golden. We know there are bears about as there were some rubbish bags shredded to bits outside the Kicking horse grill, but we are just not going to see any!
We made a reasonably early start after Amy had done her run and we had had breakfast at the Golden bakery on main street which was delicious. We arrived at the Canyon hot springs at about 12.30 and spent about an hour and a half relaxing in the thermal water which was about 40 degrees.
We had a long drive through the mountains to Kamloops on our way back to Vancouver and the coast. We reached Kamloops about 4.00p.m and while Bob got the computer out Rich and Amy and I went to walk around the Mackensie Island Park. This is a park with every sporting facility the youth of the town could want, from a skate board rink to a running track and several courts and pitchs and a big stadium. Around the edge is a walk around the isaland which took about half an hour but which a girl on roller blades did about 4
times in the time it took us to walk. All along the bank there were marmots sunning themselves in the evening sun which was really quite hot.
Kamloops is a very arid looking place with big hills all round that look sorched and treeless almost like a desert with tufts of burnt grass and dead trees. I don't think we would rush back but it was a convenient stopping place on our trek back to the coast.
We had supper at a rooftop restaurant and then went to see the free concert in the park. It was la lone rapper - Bob went to the nearby bowls tournament and definitely had the better deal. Look out Ladysmith the rapper is coming your way soon.
Must get up early as we need a visit to the launderette before we set off to Whistler in the morning. ( Still no bears).
