Well the Rugby 7's were held this last weekend. And what a load of fun that was! It is an amazing event, full of westerners, alcohol and debauchery. It is an event held over two days (Friday and Saturday) and I was lucky enough to be offered a ticket through work which meant that I got a reserved seat and free food and drink. V Nice. There is not all that much else to say about the event except that it was very tiring AND THE KIWIS WON!... read more

Hi everyone, Well, it's Wednesday morning and we are in Prague. Arrived last night, after an adventure in Cairo. More on that later. I have a few blogs to do, today and tomorrow, and will get caught up since we have free time. Internet connection in Luxor was less than desirable if/when we even had it! But first, I want to share with you a "special edition" blog. This is courtesy of Irene and Klaus Buechner. They took a helicopter tour of Dubai and graciously shared the pictures with me. In turn, we would like to share them with you. As I mentioned in an earlier blog on Dubai, it is a work in progress! 75% of the world's largest cranes are located in Dubai and construction is mind-boggling. So sit back and enjoy this glorious ... read more

Had a day trip to the hills around Al Ain. The town itself is a little tiny country town with nothing special. Not much else to say about it really but sorry for some of the picture quality, I was on my own so a lot were taken on the move through the car window!... read more

OK, so now that I have a bit of time free I thought I would actually take the time to update you all as to my most recent crusades, which is really not much. So the last time you heard from me I was in France having a ball of a time. Since then I have started my 'new' job at the same company, where I am now based onshore as opposed to offshore. But as things work out, I have been spending a lot of time offshore. October brought about heap of rig moves. That pretty much sums that month up really. After completing one I was moved onto the next and so forth. The final one brought about a bit of disaster. The process goes once the rig is moved into place and the ... read more

Well after all the preparation and the shopping the night finally came. It was time to get all togged up and to head off in our pumpkin coach to the charity ball. The ball was in aid of the Feline Friends charity that I volunteer for. We attended the ball with our usual suspects of Rod and Jess and a couple of new friends Linda and Mary. A great night was had by all. The Ball was at the Dusit which is literally just across the way from our apartment building. However fate had another surprise in store for me as Jeremy had splashed out on a lovely surprise for me. He had booked a night in a flash suite at the new hotel that had opened up just down the road. The Palace hotel. I ... read more

Chelle has had the pleasure recently of exploring the dive sites of the west coast of Dubai. To avoid confusion I have actually been doing these dives over the course of about one month. Apparently the first version of this entry was a little confusing for the masses so here is the summary. October ?? - Dive 1&2 - Mariam Express Dive October 19th - Dive 3&4 - Mariam Express Dive November 16th - Dive 5&6 - Neptune / Hopper Dive November 23rd - Dive 7&8 - Zainab / Cement Barge Dive It has been quite fun actually. So far I have been down onto four wrecks off the west coast (there really are quite a few wrecks off the coast of Dubai - there seem to have been a lot of oil rig fires, tanker ... read more

HOW TO DO DUBAI or DUBAI, DO BUY...... Nov 19 to Nov 22 “Saba ‘a Alkair” (Good Morning in Arabic) After another great flight, this time over the Makran mountain range in Pakistan (which we viewed from the cockpit with our friendly pilots) we land in Dubai to sun, sand and lots of white robed, bearded and turbaned men. Strange to be here in Dubai where the only currency not legally traded is the Israeli shekel. Driving to the hotel, one cannot help but be impressed by the soaring skyscrapers and modernistic buildings. “Arabesque’ and “Disneyesque” are apt descriptions of Dubai. Construction proceeds at a furious pace here. Dubai is booming and open for business.
