Blue sky and sunshine took Alex and me out into the hills today, glorious views, just a bit chilly up there! We watched the rain showers working their way down the Severn valley, and ended up driving to Welshpool (to call on Mum) almost through a rainbow, which spanned the whole valley. Beautiful. Oh, and a record number of caches found too!... read more

I thought you might like to see some pictures of Mum's room etc. She's been out of bed every day so far, and been upstairs in the wheelchair for breakfast and lunch, and to sit in the sitting room a while. She's still very sleepy and a bit muddled, but so far so good. Today they had a pumpkin party, so Maisie and I went up to sniff out the leftovers!... read more

I had it in my head that this is the time of year for the salmon to make their way up river to spawn, so we thought we go along to the weir near Newtown to see what we could see. Well, we saw a lot of fast flowing water - what did I expect after all that rain. And the weir was rough, and the salmon ladder ....... well, I wouldn't have tried jumping today. So, no, we didn't see any fish. But we had a lovely stroll through a nature reserve, found a few caches and had a sandwich before calling on a sleepy Mum in her new room. A good day then.... read more

It was so good to see Sophie, Tom and Martha for a couple of days as they made their way to see some friends and relations over half term. They called on (Great)Grandad on Sunday, and on Monday went to the hospital to see (Great)Grandma who looks very well, all things considered. It was Tom's birthday while they were here, so there was some celebrating to be done! Its very quiet now they have gone and Alex is at work.... read more

We'd been planning a walk along the Kerry Ridgeway - an ancient route - for a while. And today was the day. It was certainly autumnal, and the wind up there took our breath away to start with. But we had a lovely walk, and now plan to go back and walk another part. I think its about 18 miles in all. And the views are incredible, looking to Wales one way and England the other.... read more

I feel as if I have been put through my paces today - to the underworld and back. We met up with 50 or so other geocachers and were guided to a drainpipe which was the entrance to the "underworld". Once inside, where you could stand up at least, we explored lots of tunnels and underground lakes, in one of which was lurking a newly hidden cache. Someone had to wade into the chilly water to retrieve it - not me! I certainly wouldn't have gone looking for it by myself, but can now add it to my list of "found caches." We were glad that we'd borrowed some hard hats, or we'd have very sore heads tonight, and grateful for the terrestrial bars (Mars) that the organiser had brought along. It was a great day, ... read more

The weather forecast was poor for today, but it turned out not too bad to start with, so we set off along the canal hunting the caches of course. We walked along to the Chirk Marina - not ocean going yachts, but a watering hole for the canal boats- where we had a nice lunch at the boathouse before wandering back. We had planned to make a longer day of it, but suddenly a monsoon hit from nowhere and we were soaked, so we headed wetly back to the car. This may be my last blog, as on Saturday Ineke and I are going on a mystery caching event to Tartarus -the underworld - where we need hard hats and torches to met Charon. They may not let us out if we are found wanting............... Is ... read more

Alex had his annual leave, so we took the chance to drive to Scotland and visit Tom, Sophie and Martha. Of course, we really wanted to give the new house the once over! We had a jolly time, doing not a lot but enjoying seeing each other. Martha has grown hugely since we last saw her, and she was pleased to see us too. I think!... read more

I know - another day out. But, it was lovely and we walked along the old railway line from Dolgellau to Barmouth, at least some parts of it. And then along the sand spit at Fairbourne, where a miniature train runs - but not on Fridays.... read more

My school friend Hilary has been up to stay for a couple of days, and we've had a lovely time. Yesterday we took a train all along the Cambrian Coast to Criccieth, the line is near enough the sea you could touch it (exaggeration) quite a lot of the time. it was rather a wet day, so good to be on a train for a couple of hours. Today was drier, so we walked more and visited some lovely places.... read more
