We're still busy getting ready for the trip although it doesn't really feel like its only just over a week away and that its really going to happen to us. We feel like we should be really excited as we're just about to live our dreams on the trip of a lifetime but it hasn't really sunk in yet. We went down to Somerset to my Mum and Dad's to give them our most precious items including a very special delivery - BeeBee. Check out the picture of BeeBee trying to pack herself for the journey! Don't worry, we didn't pack her in the boot really. The thought of a 4 hour journey with the cat was a bit of a worry but after some advice we didn't put her in the cat box (which she ... read more

Hi everyone, The planning for the trip is coming together! Both of us are still working hard - so we are finding it hard to find time to sort out everything we need to! Although it is only is now only a month and a bit away - there seems to be so much still to do and we are still so far away- but we WILL get there! Saying this it is still really exciting and I cant imagine what it will feel like getting on the plane in Manchester not knowing exactly when we will be back in the UK (although we have promised that it will be no longer then 2 years)! We sorted out some banking things over the weekend, bought our rail tickets for Japan today and will be starting the ... read more

We're gradually getting ourselves prepared for the trip now, starting to pack up the house and finally considering our itinerary in a bit more detail. This Wednesday we went for our first visit to the travel clinic to plan our vaccination programme. We were amazed at how many injections we will need to safely take our trip around the world so we're now preparng ourselves to become human pin cushions. The funniest part of our consultation was the fact the the computer system that's used to work out which jabs we'll need couldn't fit all of our destinations in! We started with a nice bit of rabies and some japanese encephalitis and we're due back next week for another dose. Thankfully neither of us is scared of needles but I had to tell the nurse lady ... read more

With plans to spend chunks of my travelling time in Australia/New Zealand, seemed like a good idea to attend Australia Day celebrations at Walkabout Manchester for some 'authentic Aussie fun'! Erika has a lot of Oz friends, including Katrina who's heading back Down Under in a couple of weeks, so seemed an appropriate reason to party (do we need one?!)... you can see there's plenty of Australian flags, and Fosters hats flying around... and lots of "authentic" beer/cocktails, etc. (authentically British... some Fosters is certainly brewed on Princess Parkway in Manchester, not far from the Walkabout!)! Was a great time, bit of dancing, and met up with Simon again - we'd been friends in Winchester many years, and many night's out were had there too! We're now, of course, that little bit older and wiser (if ... read more
