Hello from Mark's backroom. It seems that the closer we are getting to our travelling excursion, the more things still need to be done. However, as promised, after much fighting with the computer and the inter web we have eventually got our Blog up-and-running. As we prepare to embark on our trip into the unknown the task of successfully jetting ourselves around the world, taking in the sights an sounds of all the wonderful places we plan to visit and then returning home again safely in one piece, seems more and more unachievable. However, through thick and thin, we vow that you at home; sitting comfortably in your armchairs, sipping tea and feeling dry and warm, shall be provided as close to first hand as we can supply, the ins and outs of our great adventure. ... read more

We received our travel documents from my sister Jean ready to set off. Deep snow here - worst winter conditions for 18 years but we have it on good authority that we will leave this behind and meet lovely sunshine in NZ.... read more

We are still packing having had a really hectic day full of last minute madness. It's amazing how long and complex those last few jobs can be. It was of course sadly pradictable that I was always going to be running around like a blue arsed fly today but try as I might I could not avoid my fate. My favourite last minute highlight was discovering our digital camera is too old to fit modern memory sticks. We have bought a new fangled modern camera so have gone over the budget for the day on the first day. I hope that we do better over the next few days or we'll be back before xmas. Taxi is booked for 3:15 so I have appoximately 6 hours to finish packing, stress and re-pack and enough time to ... read more

I've called this bloopers because of the photos, just taking the piss really, to my pommie friends please laugh with me. First the hum drum domestics. Well the alterations (at our home) are at the stage that will see us without water for a few weeks as they redo the plumbing. They also tell me that they have to rip the wall out in our room and this will create a daily dose of dust, much worse that we have had to endure for the last 10 weeks, so we will have to move for a month. Yesterday we scoured the nieghbourhood with flyers that read "MATURE KIWI COUPLE LOOKING FOR TEMP ACCOMMODATION FROM THE 14TH JUNE WHILST BUILDERS COMPLETE ALTRATIONS ON OUR HOME etc etc. From the 200 delivered we have had one response which ... read more

The word of the day is IRONY. Life is irony. We should always watch what we say and weigh every word that comes out of our mouth. I was chatting to a friend the other day saying how I hate London for sirens, for Ambulances and Police cars running the streets rushing to save somebody, how many times a day you hear sirens rushing to the scene of an accident, a fire, a murder.... Sirens making us aware that in that very moment when we go routinely about our day, somebody's hurt and desperately needs help. About a week after making this comment, on the 13th February, it happened to me. The sirens went on for me. I had a cerebral seizure on a bus and an ambulance rushed me to the nearest hospital. The doctors ... read more

The Eagle has Landed (say it out loud) THE EAGLE HAS LANDED. I am feeling awesome and have been waiting 2 weeks to write this entry, I wanted to be feeling positive. After a month of frustration I have scored myself a job. It's is not what I hoped for but it is a start. The employment agencies here have been useless. Despite signing up with one in October ang signing with 3 others since arriving Anita and I have not had one interview. I started to become very despondant and a little anxious because our money was trickling away. Anita starting work two weeks ago, as a nanny, has at least kept us going without dipping too deeply into our savings. Anyway a Kiwi friend of mine who I worked with in Probation, in the ... read more

Sziasztok! Puszi: Ori... read more

So much for us not having much stuff! The full extent of the number of possessions we own has hit us hard - Our living room is a sea of boxes. Things have finally (fingers crossed so not to jinx things!) come together and we are in the process of packing the house up, and getting ready to hand over the keys. We have only got another 3 weeks at work, and we are counting down the days! With luck on our side the next blog should come from somewhere a little more exotic than Ponders End! ... read more
