During the lockdown, I bought ‘Walking in London Park, Heath and Waterside’ by Peter Aylmer at WHSmith. We decided to do the trekking course around Enfield Chase via Trent Park on the 11th April. We had visited Trent Park several times and were familiar with woodland walk starting from the lake by the cemetery and various walking courses in Trent Park. After reaching Obelisk, we took the left on the T-junction and walked across Hadley Road. We followed the trail by Ash Wood and Duncan Wood. On 11th April, we saw several walkers along the trail. The surface of the footpath was dry but uneven; we had to stay careful around our foot, e.g. branches, left on the footpath. It was warm enough to do picnic; we had a picnic lunch in the Trent ... read more

Since restrictions have been gradually eased up we have been more encouraged to travel outside of borough of Haringay. After visiting Broomfield Park on the No.121 route, we decided to visit Grovelands Park near Southgate Station. Having photocopied the Southgate Area’s map, we took the No.121 bus from Wood Green and got off at Southgate station. Following the map, we found the main road The Bourne and walked down towards the park’s main entrance. It was just 10 minutes walk from Southgate Station. Grovelands Park possessed a wide variety of shrubs and trees thriving in a peaceful suburban setting and dark- and light-coloured leaves stood out in a blue sky on 25th April. The footpath led us to the Boating Lake. As the park’s website introduces, there were a wide variety of waterfowls and their signets ... read more

Mark took two days off on 30th and 31st March. From 29th March England started lifting restrictions and this would make it easier for us to make excursions further afield of Wood Green. Broomfield Park We decided to visit Broomfield Park on 30th March. London saw blue sky and rose temperature early in the morning. We took No.121 bus to Aldermans Hill from Wood Green. Mark was confident with the direction as he had previously visited the pharmacy to receive Covid jab. Sunny & warm weather and lifting restrictions seemed to have attracted a number of local people – we saw a group of people sitting in a sun, having a picnic, doing yoga and playing ball. We walked around a couple of ponds and had a close look at waterbirds and their nests. We also ... read more

The eyes of the world are turning to Russia, but in other corners of the globe the thoughts were very much on Enfield! FIFA has certain criteria to be admitted to even the qualification party and not been recognised as a sovereign nation means however good you are, you aren't playing. I had never previously given much thought to disputed territories or unrecognised states before visiting Transnistria a couple of years ago. I like to think I am quite geographically astute, but have to confess walking past the embassies of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in the centre of Tiraspol that I wasn't totally sure of their location. I specifically note these two embassies, because there are very few. You aren't going to find the US embassy tucked away in a first floor office. One of the ... read more

This is unfortunately the last blog of our big adventure. We are at home now, surrounded by boxes of household stuff and we are waiting for Virgin Media to connect our television, internet and telephone – back to the realities of life then! Ok, so after we left La Paz, Bolivia for the last time, the two of us (accompanied by our German buddy Bjorn and friend from home Chris) took the coach westwards to Copacabana, located on the shores of Lake Titicaca, Bolivia. We had been warned of potential cancellations due to political unrest on the way to the lake, but we all got on the coach with no problems and assumed we had a nice comfortable four hour journey ahead of us. Two hours into the journey, the bus came to a sudden halt ... read more

As planned, we left for Trent Park in the mid morning. We started the trail outside Cockfosters Station, north edge of the Piccadilly Line on 2 May. We walked through the meadows and grasses with buttercups towards the café in the centre of Trent Park. As expected, there were a lot of people with children and dogs in the park. We followed the trail on the Oakwood towards the nature reserve around the Middlesex University. Birches, horse chestnut trees, ashes, oaks, and various types of conifers and shrubs were thriving and they showed its distinctive colours and shapes of the foliage from lime green to dark green. White and pinkish cherry blossoms, crimson, purple, orange, and magenta rhododendrons and azaleas, puce bluebells, yellow rises were blooming and they decorated the lush green space in the Trent ... read more
