So it's been forever since I've written anything on here. I do apologize. I haven't felt much like writing the past couple weeks...even though I've been busy with interesting excursions to meet up with friends. Work hasn't been great but I have been working to remedy that situation by applying for a new job in the City. In the meantime though, my manager is out sick for two months and her manager has been trying to set things right. I'm still trying to get my pay sorted and I'll see if I've actually been successful with that when I get paid on Friday. To recap the past month: For Thanksgiving, I went to Bristol for the day to visit my friend Mya who came over from NC to visit one of her friends. We had a ... read more

OMG! I am so sorry. I haven't written in FOREVER! Well, here I am and it's going to be short one too, again I apologize. The semester is winding down and I just finished writing my last essay, (4 in two weeks!, very impressed I actually did it) and am due to submit it tomorrow morning. So I'm almost completely relieved. But due to my extensive amount of writing tonight, I probably won't elaborate much on my recent (well, sort of) adventures. Since Scotland, I haven't done much. I've been trying to save my money for Jack and my trip through Europe. Jack has declared it BHE (Bar Hopping Europe), well see about that! On November 5th(?) was Guy Fawkes Night. It is to celebrate that either a Catholic Guy Fawkes trying to Blow up Parliament(celebrating ... read more

Background information: American transplanted to a North London borough working for the NHS, job and manager are complete crap, and so is day to day life as evidenced by the “Worst Week Ever.” Each episode to feature highlights from days throughout the week. Episode 1.1—Pilot Girl traipses off to work on a typical Monday. After again dealing with Late Public Transport, girl arrives late to work site (elementary school this particular day). Girl does job well and only gets mild dirty looks from children with which she works. Instead of lunch, girl goes to catch yet another bus to the next place she works…yet another school. Bus is running somewhat on time and girl can actually walk rest of distance from bus stop to school instead of running. On the way, the first of the Worst ... read more

The bad news is that on the opposite side of the police station from where I work, there was a stabbing incident. Thankfully, this happened last night about 11pm (from what I can gather) and I was at home safe in my warm, cozy bed. A bit of background: For my Sure Start job which isn't quite off the ground at this point, I am going to the neighborhood clinic that is just across the car park from the Sure Start building. That's where I have access to a computer and a place to see clients for assessments. The police station is across a small alleyway to the west of the clinic and the main street through the part of town where I work is just to the west of the police station. Across that street, ... read more

Hello All! I just wanted to let you all know that I will be in Scotland for the weekend. Four other girls and I will be staying in a castle turned into a hostel for the weekend, it's also said to be haunted. The castle is about an hour from Inverness which is supposed to be BEAUTIFUL!! There will be a lot of hiking and outdoor activity which will be a nice getaway. I'm so so excited. Well I need to get going, we are leaving by tonight at around midnight and will arrive in Scotland after about nine hours on a bus but I'm sure it will be all worth it. Love you all, wish you could be here!! Jen... read more

As some of you know, I've been fighting with my bank and I've not been able to have some services available to me that are standard in the US. First, some background. Within the first week that I was in the country, I was able to get my bank account set up with one of the major banks since my manager had a contact at a locum agency that knew some high-ranking person at this bank. After finally contacting this person (she'd been out of the office with food poisoning), she was able to set up the account over the phone with me having to fax her a couple of documents. Now, from my point of view, this was great. Everything that I'd read or been told basically said that this process was going to take ... read more

Here's pics of my new place. My room is coming together. Still need to try to go to IKEA to pick up my table. Haven't had time this week. We had a speech meeting this morning (Barbara, thank you for never putting us through such a disorganized meeting about nothing!) and it's 2 1/2 hours I'll never have back. Did get to meet some new people and sort a few things out for my own personal job though. Also, just FYI, I've now got internet at my flat and IM is up and running. I know that there's a 5 hour time difference, but I'd love to talk to you if you have IM! Maybe over your lunch hour when I'm already done with work??? :-) Must go to sleep so I can get up in ... read more

I just wanted to all let you know that I was going to be out of town all weekend. I'm going to be going to Germany to visit Tina and the family (family friends of Grandpa Grauel's). I think I'll actually be in Frankfurt, but I don't know. I leave Thursday after class and I will return on Tuesday. I would return earlier but it was much cheaper to come back on Tuesday. And don't worry, I won't be missing any class or course work. I'll have lots of pictures to post on my next entry. Leave me a message and let me know what's been going on back in the States. Love and miss you all!!! Jen... read more

I got back from my planned Study Abroad Program family stay. I stayed with a host family, an older retired couple and their 5-year-old great-grandson, in Woking England. It was a good time and a great break from my dorm and a great chance to eat food that is not peanut butter (or what England claims as PB) and jelly sandwiches. We went to Windsor Castle, which was huge and to yet another cheap market, which was great! Don’t worry Dad, I didn’t buy anything! In the manor of Windsor Castle is St. George’s Chapel. St. George’s is so beautiful and rich with tombs of former leaders of England. Henry VIII and one of his wives, Jane Seymour (the one he actually did ‘love’), and one of his infants by Queen Anne is buried there along ... read more

Is it just me, or should bus drivers not heckle the passengers? Just this afternoon, as I'm taking the bus here to the library, this happened: I tried to catch the bus and was about 6 steps too late to actually flag the driver down so I could board. Luckily another bus running the same route was about 45 seconds away and was approaching. (They aren't supposed to follow each other so closely, but in this instance I was glad they were...most of the time, I'm just missing the second bus and have to wait absolutely forever for the next bus.) I step onboard, with my bus pass out to show the driver and he asks me what the sign on the previous bus said. Now, with a bit of incredulity, I respond, "Pardon?" because I ... read more
