Today, we should visit in the morning the Stourhead Gardens. In the afternoon we should visited Shaftesbury. Because we were travelling in a group, our day program was known before. However, it sounded a little bit boring. However, the Stourhead Gardens was not boring at all! We left early today, after breakfast. However, it was starting to rain (not that hard), even when we arrived. Typically English weather. After buying the tickets, we could enter the gardens. Now it stopped to rain, at least for a while. The garden is known about its temples bridges and tunnels, which you also could visit. Even for disabled people there was a hike trail. And you also could choose a small and large hike trail. We choose to hike the largest trail, of 2 miles (3 km). However, the ... read more

Monday 9th this was a touristy day - the full works at Cheddar Gorge, open-top guided bus tour, a look round two caves, a museum and a walk up Jacob's Ladder and the viewing platform, along one side of the Gorge, down, over the road and up the other side. All this afdter dancing the previous evening and having four hours sleep. The Gorge is fascinating. The caves have links with jenolan Caves, which I'm sure I've been to in Australia, and the Gorge itself inspired Tolkien when he visited here on his honeymoon. The Gorge was formed by the ice cap on the Mendips melting each summer which caused a torrent to rage through the landscape carving Britain's highest inland cliffs. The caves beneath are also fascinating, self-guided with a slightly whimsical audio set. I ... read more

Venturing East along the Jurassic Coast we travelled on the X53 bus from Bridport making our destination Weymouth although we found out that we could stay on all the way to Poole. Heading West we could have decided to visit Lyme Regis or even Exeter but Weymouth it was. Sat on the top of the bus, I mused. Happiness is a compilation of small pleasures, little delights and tiny surprises. Often the larger things in life can overshadow the nuances of everyday life. I definitely worship the God of Small Things! (Thank you Arundhati Roy). Hugging the coastline the bus squeezes its way down small roads, dodging parked cars and oncoming traffic for all the world like Harry Potter's night bus. I swear I was thinner at the end of the journey after all that breathing ... read more

You can find creativity and adornment in the most surprising corners, in this case an abandoned stone quarry on the Isle of Portland in the south of England. Who wants to traipse around stuffy art galleries looking at coloured lines on a canvas when you can get your dose of culture out in the fresh air and sunshine? Not I! If you've followed my blogs for a while you will have realised that I get a little bit excited and snap happy when I discover outdoor art, be it graffiti along my daily commute, exhibitions on Sydney beaches, or yarn-bombing in Kiwi towns. So when I found myself with a free afternoon on Portland the other day I wasn't going to turn down the opportunity to explore the sculptures hidden amongst the boulders in the redundant ... read more

So I am home. How I feel about all this is for another blog, should I ever work out how to put into words how I actually feel right now! What I can say is that in the past two weeks I have enjoyed immensely rediscovering the area where I grew up. After two years roaming the world, ticking off 'must dos', having life-changing experiences and seeing UNESCO World Heritage sights, I have returned to find they are all on my doorstep and travelling has merely taught me to open my eyes and mind to appreciate them more. I have also made the surprising but very flattering discovery recently that it is not only blood relatives that read my blog these days. It would seem other people are mildly interested, not in if I'm alive, but ... read more

Our third day in the motorhome started early - the birds were singing and yenut again the weather was cold and miserable. However hooked up we were reasonably snug in the van . Simon arrived at 8.15 and we left Suzy for the rest of her work to be done. We had got to the point where we had had enough and wanted to move on. We had the Citroen again and drove to Corfe Castle a pretty little town in the heart of Dorset. Again another place I had visited in the summer of 1976. The village is constructed almost completely from the local grey Purbeck limestone which gives it a grey appearance even in the sun. It comprises two main streets, East Street and West Street, linked at their north end at the Square. ... read more

Our plan for the next few days was to get over to Poole to another motorhome fitting company who specialised in solar panels, satellite dishes, gaslow and leisure batteries. We had booked Suzy in for all of them and hoped that this experience would be better than the one with the strikeback alarm system and tracker . We woke early as we couldn’t sleep. The plan had been to get up at the usual time and then set off for Dorset. However we found we woke at 3.30 and decided not to bother trying to go back to sleep again but instead to have a quick breakfast before setting off. It felt a long drive going out in the darkness. Being March, dawn seemed to take a long time to break. It always though feels a ... read more

Hello, so I thought that I would post a short blog just before we leave. WE CANNOT WAIT TO GO!!!! The next 11 days cannot go quick enough, although we have lots and lots to look forward to before we shoot off, Dorset coastal walks with friends, New Years Eve and family parties. It is difficult to remember that we are coming home though. I made the mistake of getting rid of a lot of clothes a few months ago to get some extra cash for this trip and have now realised that I would quite like some of them back, haha. However I'm sure that I can survive in the same clothes for a few weeks at a time. I know Sam will have no problem with that! Everything is sorted for travelling now, all ... read more

Day 5: I suppose my journey was of 10 days. But as luck would have it, I am now, on the 5th night, preparing to go to my home in the United States. I mean things happened so fast that it drove me crazy. Next morning after day 4 when I woke up, the police called me again. They then verified my details by even calling up my company and asking about me. The discussion ended around noon and as soon as I reached home my boss called me up. He sympathised with me at first and then dropped the bombshell. “We were wondering that since you lost so much there its better you come and join us soon. There is a project coming up day after tomorrow and we want you to be a part ... read more
