There is literally no good way to start a blog because nobody gives a shit about the first post. Nobody will read it, except for maybe us in 5 months time when we're really drunk and have no trip to Europe to obsess over. So there are few things that should be outlined before we actually get into writing about the trip. 1. This blog is not going to be about 'shimmering cities' or detailed analysis of cultures. We will not be 'deeply immersing ourselves within a sea of local customs and traditions'. We will not be deciding what countries are our favorite based on the number of times we can stop and take pictures of churches and old walls. We will not enjoy getting up at 6am to get the first fresh loaf of bread ... read more

And so the chaos begins. It turns out knowing what to pack for a 3 week road trip across 9 states, with a huge variety of activities and terrain to master, is no easy feat.....that is unless you are Rob. "throw in some pants, shorts and t-shirts" is his answer to "what should I pack?" being a girl is just not that easy! So with just 4 more sleeps until we head to ye olde London town for the night before heading to heathrow, we are well in our way to being organised.....ish. Ellie x... read more

Hi everyone, it's Amanda Gee here writing from the small town of Beer in the county Devon in England. Hope you enjoy the blog and continue to follow as we're not quite halfway though our exciting trip. "The friendship of a pony gives confidence to the young, peace to the unhappy, and delight to us all." (author unknown, found on an Exmoor Pony Centre publication) After visiting the Exmoor Pony Centre today, I think all of us on our trip would agree. For those out in our blogosphere and unfortunately not on the trip with us, you missed a wonderful sunny day in Southwest England. We loaded the bus at 6:30 this morning and for the first time this trip I think, we were all on time. While it was a long and sometimes harrowing drive ... read more

Hello readers (Mum and Amber, maybe Julio?), It has been pointed out that I have been really slack with the blog entries. I will sum up the last month in a few short installments and then try to return to relatively frequent entries. - LONDON - I was less than impressed by the capital city. This was not helped by 1. Staying in a dirty scumhole that I was scared to shower in because of the risk of TB (probably made worse due to contrast with clean, shiny Japan) and 2. Visiting with two people who had seen the sights enough that they were thouroughly unimpressed by them and thus uninterested in doing 'touristy' things. Despite this, Liam and I joined forces with the lovely Sonya and had a few adventures, including seeing the crown jewels ... read more

When the sun is out, everyone in the country has got two choices. Some of them prepare barbeques at the backyard of their houses or heading down to the coast. I instantly chose the former and planed a trip to the coast with one of my friends. I straight drove off to Beer which a picturesque little fishing village. By the time we arrived, it was crowded with outsiders like us. We walked along the coast to Seaton beach which is set inside the Lyme bay is also mile long shingle beach. On the way, I didn't forget to entertain a group of local pensioners who looked at with amusement when we ordered two sets of cream tea at around 10am. Surely they might have thought something strange about a Chinese block and an Asian looking ... read more

IN ENGLISH London to Torquay, Devon, UK: 219.4 miles on the way out & 197.4 miles on the way back 6-9 April 2012 As I (Nelly) wanted to gain more riding experience, we decided to travel on two bikes for this long bank holiday weekend. The first leg of the journey was going to be on the M4 west to Bristol and then on the M5 south to Exeter + a bit of A roads to Torquay our final destination. All went well, despite tiredness and feeling achy; we stop several times to rest and arrived in Torquay at 6pm. We had made a reservation at the Robin Hill B&B which turned out to be a lovely place. One small inconvenient: the driveway to the hotel entrance goes up on a steep hill and John had ... read more

Stepping off the plane on UK soil swamped me with a multitude of emotions; excitement at the prospect of seeing my family waiting the other side of the airport (complete with huge banner), surprising my boyfriend that evening (it was his birthday and he had no idea I was back), wracked with nerves at the prospect of a job interview the next day, yet all the while I did not have a moment to breathe in the realisation I was now thousands of miles away from a continent I called ‘home’ for the last seven months. So, it was with short sightedness that I 'completed' my travel blog at the end of February upon my return to the UK. I closed my mind to the possibility of continuing my adventures closer to home based upon the ... read more

How lovely is an English spring? UK trip blog #1 3/13/12 We have been in England for one week and have been getting the Hobby motor home (MH) and Honda Motor scooter inspected, licensed, tuned up, shined up and regenerated for the trip ahead. We started Southwest today and have received complementary tickets for a Motor Home /Caravan show in Exeter this weekend and from there will be continuing South to Land’’s End. We are members of the National Trust Society and have started visiting NT sites. Hidcote Manor was our first NT site and we have planned to return there before we leave the UK in May to really enjoy their wondrous gardens. Spring is definitely in the air, but temperatures still are crisp. We’ve spent some time in the Cotswold area, where Guy lived ... read more

Why Do I Travel?? Why do i insist on forcing myself to go these places, on my own? Why do i reject the social norm of a holiday actually being an occasion where you have nothing more to worry about than whether to sit by the pool or the beach that day? These are but a few of the questons i seem to be asking myself lately, as i frequently wake in the middle of the night in beads of sweat, coming to terms with the reality that i am in fact flying to India in less than 3 weeks. I'ts not as if i haven't travelled before, including Asia. It's not that i'm going on my own. It's the stepping so far from my comfort zone. It's the not knowing where you'll be sleeping that ... read more

Our first blog, but hopefully the start of many! Arrived in the Dartmoor national park on friday 30th dec 2011. Woodland springs 'adult only' touring park. The kids said it would be a 'keys in the pot' experience, but so far so good! A really quiet site, nice natural surroundings with a massive award winning shower block! bizarre. The owners are into recycling in a big way which is ok if you have the space to keep the waste separate. In a caravan it's a problem unless you constantly visit the bins. The weather isn't good in fact its just like our scottish trip - raining every day. Went to bellever forest new years eve and had a wonderful although wet walk with kelly and lily in the forest. Kelly generally stays close to us but ... read more
