Jez and I were both shocked at our own incompetence of not realising the Euro 08 football championship would be on while we were in Switzerland. We deliberated and finally made the decision to head back to Bern for the day to check out the atmosphere for the Italy v Holland match. We would have loved to have gone to the actual match but found out scalpers were selling tickets for 800 Euros and above! On the train from Lauterbrunnen there were a few supporters on board from each side. But nothing had prepared us for when we hopped off the train and were swarmed by a sea of orange. There were Dutch supporters everywhere. We found out that the Dutch team were playing all three of their pool matches in Bern so their supporters had ... read more

Hey guys, I just wanted to upload some pictures of Lucerne, because I just realized I don't have any up, and it was so, so, so, gorgeous! And like I said, it was a lot of fun...until I missed the bus...and the train, lol. But I got to meet a really nice Swiss lady on the train who helped me with some of the ins and outs of train travel. She was so friendly. Really all of the Swiss are exceptional people. Anway, here are the pictures of Lucerne. I'm in Bern right now, but I'm leaving really early tomorrow morning (and may get to spend a few hours in Milan on my way to Rome!!!) so I will try to put up some Bern pictures later tonight or soon after getting into Rome. I ... read more

K Well, so much for my rule to post every other day, lol. Sorry :) It's just been SO hectic and amazing and exhausting. This is going to be a big post because I'm using my own computer, not the hostel's, AND it's free!!! So, I will start in Zurich, or rather, on the plane to Zurich. I sat next to a very nice man from Switzerland, and he was telling me all about things I should do in Zurich, and how wonderful the city was. His name was Eric, and he gave me his phone number so we could get together for drinks and he could tell me more. Relax all nervous parental figures, I didn't go. I wanted to, but I didn't. I think he was just friendly, and I feel a little bad ... read more

I just wanted to let you all know that I probably won't be putting up very many pictures. It's really annoying and it takes FOREVER! I will post a few of my favorites when I can post pics, but I will be putting the rest on facebook, or myspace, or anywhere that's easier. :) Sorry. I will post the best pics, though, so there is some good news, lol. ... read more

Bern, Switzerland was our unexpected and unplanned two night stay. Sera and I absolutely loved it!! The people were soo warm and friendly and the country sde was beautiful. We stayed with a couch surfer was was hosting four others at the same time. A couple from Quebec and two people from Spain, we had a barbeque and walked around Bern on the first evening ending at a famous brewery. The next day all the other couch surfers left in the morning and Sera and I went for a hike through the Switzerland Countryside... it was absolutely beautiful. We walked through small villages, farms, forests, meadows and creeks. The river running through Bern is so clean that it is actually turquoise blue. The cuurent is very strong and the water moves very fast however people swim ... read more

We did it! We succesfully navigated through the train stations and made it to Bern! The capital! Parliament! Woohoo!! It was really fun to finally be away from the group and do our own thing. I don't know if it was just our luck or what but I found the Swiss German people to be soooo friendly and nice. A woman on the train directed us to the tourist desk, the woman at the tourist desk gave us a map and tons of suggestions and even booked our hostel for us, the man at the hostel desk booked our dinner reservations.. it goes on and on. We arrived in Berne (Me, Allie, Liz, Jackie, Stacy, Brittney, Michelle and Monica) around 6 and dropped our stuff off, freshened up and then headed to dinner at Altes Tramdepot, ... read more

At night sometime - Not too much has been going on lately. It is now Friday though! The last few days I've just been going to class which isn't that bad but nothing exciting worth mentioning. I'm taking Italian (thank god) and Consumer Behavior. Today we took a train to Berne. We switched trains in Luzern and Olten. The train from Olten to Berne was a double-decker, fast and crowded. I sat by a girl from this portion of Switzerland. It's in the German speaking part. She was very friendly and spoke good English. That's probably because she studied in Canada for I want to say two years. We had a nice conversation about absolutely nothing. Upon arriving in Berne we had no idea where to go. We didn't even have a hostel. Thankfully Michelle (I ... read more
