Well as many of you can probably assume, based on my lack of blogs lately, things have been pretty busy around here. I am starting to get into the swing of things with my work schedule, but it doesn’t leave a whole lot of time in the evenings to catch up with everyone. None-the-less, I love my job and am enjoying my new apartment and area of Germany. I am also getting to travel around Europe with work, and I had my first international business trip last week! After a relaxing weekend in Karlsruhe to adjust to my new surroundings, I was off on Monday to Stockholm for work. Pretty crazy to show up your first day of work and be booked to Sweden for the next week! It was a pretty uneventful trip up to ... read more

So I decided to write an entry that pretty much describes a typical day in my life and maybe explains a few things about life here. 5:30 AM I wake up. I get dressed in long underwear, jeans, a hoodie, a jacket, a scarf, a hat, and boots or tennis shoes. 6:15 AM I catch the bus out in front of my apartment building to Vasterhaninge Station. It's a bus and train station. Anyway, it's a 9 minute ride from my apartment. 6:31 AM I switch to another bus and it leaves the station. I get off at Osterhaninge Church and then walk to work. It's about a five minute walk and there's now light outside while I'm doing it. 7-3 I'm at work doing that sort of thing. 3-5 PM I do errands which my ... read more

I’m tempted to call this the pre-Berlin blog. Yep, I know that was the title two blogs ago, then you saw the blog about Berlin. But I’m going back, March 1-8th...so perhaps it is the pre-Berlin blog.  Again. So SINCE last Berlin trip, its been an absolute whirlwind of madness. I think my to-do lists are secretly mating and producing offspring as I seem to have about 5 sheets of paper with tasks on them on my person at all times. School is one thing. Half Machine is another. My website company has a bit of business going on at the moment so that’s another thing. Then there’s design competitions. Then there’s the travel. Ie: Sterling airlines had a valentine’s sale - 2 flights for the price of one. Amanda and I are going to ... read more

Yesterday was my birthday. I slept in, then I got up and took the bus to the terminal. Then I took the commuter train to the city, where I took the subway to Gamla Stan. Gamla Stan is the old part of Stockholm. I walked around and bought a notebook and some postcards. Then I had some hot chocolate and a sandwich before meeting Mia and Elin at the subway. We went to the movies and saw Gone Baby Gone, which was okay. We went to the SF Bio at Hotorget. There's a Pizza Hut there for those Americans looking for comfort food. Then the fun began. I left Gamla Stan subway station and landed at the Central Station. When I reached there, I was waiting on the platform for the train. Well then the train ... read more

First up a slightly sad but I think cool thing: the other week Manchester had its first snow of the season. It wasn’t much but it was the first time I’ve seen snow fall and it was kinda cool seeing and feeling the snow from my bedroom window. This weekend I've been in Stockholm, Sweden - random trip this one, loving all things Swedish (from their uber cool bands to Ikea - lol) I couldn’t turn up the prospects of a cheap flight, cool hostel and a good concert. Arrived way late (early ???) Saturday morning after leaving Manchester Friday evening (and after hassles getting to Liverpool airport, long bus ride from Stockholm airport to the city centre and then a long walk plus getting lost en route to my hostel at 2am …). My hostel ... read more

Well it's been some time since I have written in this blog, so I supposed today was a good day to start. For those of you who are unfamiliar with my life, you might not know how reassured I feel that I can once again click Sweden in the location box. Anyhow, I am south of Stockholm in a suburb and so far it has been interesting. There are still some patches of woods here, which is nice. It hasn't been as cold as it was in Lulea. It still gets dark early though. Anyhow, I live pretty close to my friend, Robin, who you may remember from my Lulea entries. Mia, also from those entries, is in the city. I see her from time to time. Robin's mom is visiting right now from Gothenburg, so ... read more

A little while ago (the weekend of 2 February actually, so I'm richly late in publishing this blog, as usual) I went on a weekend to Göteborg. Some might not know this but it is actually the second largest city in Sweden. I knew someone who lived there (and just to beat smart comments to the punch, yes it is through a computer game, drunken gaming can be cool!) who invited me over and who am I to turn him down! So off I went (after spending f**king five minutes figuring Swedish train ticket machines out, now I know what an apex ticket is) on a three hour train ride during which I finished a lot of reading and got to see some of the Swedish landscape between Lund and Göteborg, which, unfortunately wasn't all that ... read more

Malmö Red Hawks vs. Nybro whatever! Last days have been interesting! On Wednesday I have gone to an ice hockey match with Svenja's Mentor group. They had their trip planned out and told us about it, me and Hannes thought it sounded like a good idea so we went ahead and invited ourselves to the match. No one seemed to mind and as it turned out I actually knew half the mentor group from the international welcome party already. So off we went, to the Malmö Red Hawks in their stadium! It was raining cats and dogs as we went there so the trip wasn't really worth remembering but we did go to this supermarket where, according to Swedish tradition, I bought a sandwich with red beets and meatballs... Only the sauce wasn't red, but a ... read more

Before heading to Berlin, I thought I better make a quick post-new-years-post. I got back from the UK and Germany and ended up getting straight to work on the final two weeks of our toilet-sign-switching project that I discussed before. We’ve officially named it the Ladies and Mens Room Mixup (LMRM) and spent the first week back finalizing the prototype and testing it out at the club. It went pretty well, we had three elements, the automatic door switching, a wheel with a lever so people could choose which mode they wanted it in (boy/girl, girl/boy, girl/girl, etc) and the touch sensitive poles. People were strangely afraid to touch the poles thinking they’d get electrocuted or something, and it made it more difficult that I, an English speaking, non -drunk-at-a-night-club person was trying to convince them ... read more
