Hi Friends and Family, I'm a bit late in sending this blog but I thought I'd catch everyone up with my wanderings around Stockholm. The Stockholm archipelageo consists of around 24,000. I travelled to as many of them as possible, which was about 30. You can see some of them in the photos. Even the main palace and the old part of town (Gamla Stan) are on an island. I got to see several viking ships in both Oslo and Stockholm. The Vasa was so big that I could't fit it into one picture. But I recommend the Vasa Museum to anyone that is visiting Sweden. ANd definitely try the chocolates and the ice cream - they are both of the finest quality. I made some great friends (Kiwis, Germans, Greeks and Americans) who accompanied me ... read more

It was not a comforting thought to see people on the streets bundled up in the morning - after all, we were still in September. We had breakfast buffet in the hotel to get our day started and witnessed tourists and locals wearing heavy jackets, hats, gloves as they walked in front of the hotel. It was a cloudy morning but it was dry. The restaurant was very busy and I noticed a big group of Japanese tourists in a corner. Unfortunately, breakfast was not included in our hotel rate and I was extremely shocked to see the bill … about USD40,- each for our buffet. We got a great weekend rate but the hotel made it back from its breakfast buffet. Our first destination was City Hall in the Kungsholmen district - about 2 blocks ... read more

Hey Everybody!!! Before I get started I wanted to wish my beautiful Aunty Diana a belatd but HAPPY 50TH BIRTHDAY .. hope you enjoyed the lunch and so sorry I couldnt make it xoxo So today we caught the ferry across to Sweden - it was so bad as they have duty free shopping onboard the ship. This ferry is massive - pretty much the size of The Spirit Of Tasmania and has shopping on board so Aina (Johns Mum) and I did LOTS of shopping. I actually spent 15,000 kroner which is about 350 AUD haha got some Chanel Coco Mademoiselle and some gifts for people and then more for myself haha. Apart from the shopping we had a buffet lunch onboard which was very nice with free alcohol - which resulted in Harald (Johns ... read more

It was a very full flight from London Heathrow to Stockholm on British Airways. I was excited to have the opportunity to visit another country for the first time and learn another culture. The girl at Passport Control was very nice and asked me my purpose for coming to Stockholm. “Spending the weekend away from London” was my answer. Yes, I could have spent the weekend in London but Sweden was a more economical choice. She looked at my thick passport and asked if I have ever been to Sweden before. I assured her this was my very first trip and she stamped my passport and finished by saying “enjoy your stay in Stockholm”. There was only one ATM machine outside of Customs and there was a long line. I stood in line while Po checked ... read more

Greetings again! I recently took a trip to Stockholm for the weekend. I arrived around 9pm Thursday the 11th and met Emily and our friend Cassy a pub close to our hostel. We took the subway to a couple of pubs around town to get a feel of what Stockholm had to offer for our sightseeing weekend. I purchased a subway pass that allowed me 8 rides for about $27 (each ride was good for one hour of transport). Not cheap, but nothing is in Stockholm. It is more expensive than Luleå. Stockholm is a fantastic city...much larger than I had anticipated. The hostel we stayed in for the first night slept 12 people in bunk beds. I woke up in the middle of the night because of a voice that seemed very close to me. ... read more

Hej! I went to Stockholm for the first time last weekend. My friend from Duluth, Cassy, came to visit me Wednesday night and we left on Thursday afternoon. We took a 4 hour train there and found our hostel without a problem. We got some dinner and went bar hopping. Kai met us a few hours later when he got to town. The next day we went to Skansen, the only outdoor museum with a zoo! It was really fun. We went to dinner and went out bar hopping again around the city. Cassy left for her airport at three in the morning and we saw her off. On Saturday, Kai and I went to Gamla Stan, the oldest part of the city. It was definitely the most beautiful part. We went to a pub called ... read more

I actually had no intention of going to Sweden. My housemate and very good travel companion managed to buy tickets for only £15.00. So....off to Stockholm we went, the capital of Sweden. With no high hopes and no expectations of what I would find in this city, I didn't find much.  It was cold and raining for the entire time I was there, which didn't make my experience any more magical. And not to sound too cynical, as far as tourism goes, Stockholm to Sweden is really what Canberra is to Australia. It is a city, with not very much for tourists to do or see at all. Stockholm Palace was the highlight of my weekend and about the only notable historical building there to see. On my little walk to the centre of the ... read more

Well it is getting easier and easier to be here, I am at about 6 1/2 weeks in. It is getting colder I can feel winter just lingering ahead waiting to put its full load on us in the coming months. I miss New Mexico's warmth A LOT, but I am also looking forward to the harsh winter here. It will definately be a new experience. I can feel Halloween in the air, even though it is over a month away, I still smell the familiar smell of fall. The leaves falling changing colors and falling to the ground. The smell of wood burning in peoples fire places early in the morning and in the evening. I hear that they make celebrations here a big deal. I am sure that I will have a lot ... read more
