Barcelona

 Europe » Spain
Hi all, We are here in Barcelona having an amazing time. We took an overnight train from San Sebastian which was terrible hahahah, no air and a loud Spanish man who literally talked until 4 in the morning. Anyway when we got in Kyle Jason and I checked into our room and walked all around. We walked down to the water and then up the Las Rambla, and then the Picaso Museum . Later that night we went out for a few drinks. Yesterday we went all around the city looking at the different Gaudi buildings, as we went to all [View Full Entry]

We did a lot of walking around our first couple of days here in Barcelona, almost all of it intentional. Our very nice apartment is located not too far from the Placa de Catalunya, a large, central square that divides old and new Barcelona. We took a walk on Las Ramblas, which runs south toward the harbor. It used to be a medieval drainage ditch along the outside of the walls of the old town (Barri Gotic), but is now a pedestrian friendly (crowded) area with outdoor bird markets and flower sellers, and shops with outrageously expensive souvenirs. We also saw [View Full Entry]

This year in Spain we stayed in Barcelona and there was a chocolate muesem. They had really sweet chocolate sculptures like horses pulling carriages and the FC Barcelona logo. We got to see people make the sculptures. There was also a Barcelona stadium made out of chocolate. By mich@el $pence [View Full Entry]

Barcelona!

 Europe » Spain » Catalonia » Barcelona
I suppose there are worse places to be stuck! More down to lazyness than bad luck, We didn't book our tickets to Granada in advance so have had stay in a hostel for the night. Anyway, on the bright side it's a comfy night sleeping on a bed! 12 hours by train to Barcelona, with stops along the way, was never going to be plesant. Add an 90 year old geriatric with a foul temper and things got a whole lot worse! Kathryn's seat was next to the crusty old timer but luckily managed to swap with a kind senor. [View Full Entry]

Only two weeks left

Actually 13 days. It’s really sad, I wish I could stay here for a lot longer. So this is just a general post about things I’ve seen here and things that have happened, that didn’t quite fit into another post. So Fátima is the director of my program, and I think she is probably the coolest person I have ever met. Anyways, her husband coaches a girls basketball team in a town nearby, and Fátima kept asking me if I would want to play with the girls, and I kept saying yes. So today she called me to come down to [View Full Entry]

Tree sculptures in hotel plaza
On Sunday, the boys and I left Dave in Edinburgh to finish up his teaching gig; we flew to Girona, Spain in Catalonia (North East), which is not too far from the Pyrenees in France. We stayed at a new Express Holiday Inn in Salt, a town on the outskirts of Girona. When we visited the nearby mall in search of dinner (7:30pm) we were surprised to find all the shops closed. We inquired at the hotel desk, and discovered that actually the shops had not yet opened for dinner! So, we took an short but exciting drive to the Las [View Full Entry]

This is my bedroom. Sorry no flash.
Hola, I can’t remember if I ever posted pictures of where I am staying. So here are some for your entertainment. I don’t have a picture of my host mom but I will get one before I go home. She has a nice apartment which has a small kitchen, living and dining room combo, 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. It is clean too. Some people have houses but others live in apts. like mine and others not as nice as mine. I got lucky, I get along with her really well. My Spanish has improved as a result as well. Barcelona is a very modern city with a lot of Gaudi architecture, which i hated. On every second house you have an egg or a fruit or something weird. Sagrada Familia is very impressing from far away, as long as you don't see the details it looks impressing because of it's size, but once i came near my first thought was : this must be a joke. It looks like from a comic that has something to do with starwars and fancy fruits, because on the summits of the towers there were lemons and melons and berries and whatever. Of course [View Full Entry]
