Spain Travel Blogs

Spain is a sun soaked chunk of the southern European Iberian peninsula. A popular holiday makers destination, expats home and general escape opportunity from the colder north.

Enjoy a paella in a plaza or be snack happy with Spains tapas bar tradition.

Siesta divided days will ensure that you don't waste the night by being awake all day. So, don't neglect Spains 'start late and go all night' life.

I guess I didnīt really explain why I came to Barcelona of all places. Most of you probably know, but just in case some donīt, here it is. In the fall of 2002 I came here with my classmates (about 25 of us) from the University of Calgary to study planning and architecture for a semester. We all lived here for 4 months and I had an apartment with 3 girl friends. We got to know the city quite well - after 4 months it felt quite like home. It was an amazing time and an experience Iīll always cherish. So [View Full Entry]

Well, I slept like a baby who hadnīt slept in 30 hours....I was hoping to be up fairly early but I only woke up at 9 am because I heard someone elseīs alarm go off down the hall - thanks! Maybe they do wake up calls here - rather be up at 7. What a busy day! I can honestly say I havenīt walked as much in the last 2 weeks as I did today. After a delicous breakfast consisting of an omelette bocadillo (quite tasty), I headed off to my old stomping grounds. First stop - my old apartment just [View Full Entry]

Hello everyone! I have no idea what I'm doing on this thing, but I'm sure in the hour or so before bed calls, I can have plenty of fun playing around with it! Seville. Is. Awesome. Pretty much sums up life here. Granted, not enjoying 9am starts every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (except when we have bank holidays...which over here is like every 2 weeks!), nor am I particularly fond of the really sleazy drunk spanish men. But apart from that, all is fine and dandy! The weather is still warm considering the time of year- 27 degrees (celsius!) today, but [View Full Entry]

Overdue Update Europe » Spain » Andalusia » Almería
I know many of you are still wondering about what happened to me a couple of weeks ago. Yes, I know, this explanation is long overdue. My last blog entry was sometime after my Sunday doctor's appointment...the doctor who put me on a super strict, depressing diet...Well, Tuesday came around and there was still no sign of improvement. I had actually lost another kilo (a little over 2 lbs). I wanted a second opinion. After school I went to a local clinic where I got to see another doctor. He thought that I might have salmonella and recommended that I go [View Full Entry]

Hello folks, Another blog... yup, Iīm doing it again. Mostly for selfish reasons as it makes remembering things when I scrapbook a trip MUCH easier afterwards. But, I also hope you enjoy reading it too! Iīll apologize in advance if the blog is a little less amusing than usual as I donīt have Brad by my side interjecting his witty little comments as I write. I hope youīre not too disappointed and still find some enjoyment in the adventures of Debra solo. So, yes, I am traveling on my own this time! Hereīs the basic itinerary: Leave November 9th, back on [View Full Entry]

So, this is very, very overdew. I went to Granada, probably over a month ago now! It was so amazing. My parents were there for that weekend of their trip here in Spain, so I went with my house-mate, Jennifer, to meet with them. The coolest thing by far was the Alhambra. It was so amazing! We also went to the cathedral and chapel, which contains the tombs of Ferdinand and Isabella, but they did not compare to the Alhambra. The Alhambra contains the Moorish Palace and the Citadel (Alcazaba). Also, it has the Generalife, or the summer home for the [View Full Entry]

As we mentioned yesterday this hotel on the University campus is stylish. And we have a bidet!! We are now starting to rank our hotel stays in Europe by whether our bathroom has a bidet or not and we are seriously thinking of getting one installed when we get home!!Without getting into too much detail for those who haven’t experienced a bidet in their bathroom, they are a delight and so hygienic!!They are one thing that Europeans have over us Kiwis!! Anyway onto things more serious and our day in Barcelona. The weather forecast is for rain later in the day but we [View Full Entry]

Sorry for the delay on this blog, but due to camera cables being swiped i've been unable to get to my pics!! So, the end of the trip, and i decided early on, as my flight was passing through Madrid, to stop there for a few days, as its a great place. I landed early afternoon after a duff flight in which the baggage handlers helped themselves to items in my bag, and found the hotel my parents had booked, quick tram ride away. Nice hotel, very 70's, but nice. I dumped my bags, had a shower and headed for the [View Full Entry]

We remarked on how the clouds were reminiscent of El Greco's famous painting of the city.
Hola from Toledo. After a very short week in Virginia, we were off on Monday afternoon for Spain. Unfortunately, Alec's trusty MacBook Pro went South on Sunday, rendering it unusable for the trip. Fortunately, we purchased an extended warranty from Best Buy, so we stopped there on the way to Dulles to drop it off for repair, and to purchase a new MacBook to bring on the trip. Andrew was about due for a replacement anyway, so we'll use it on the trip, then pass it along to him for the Spring semester. Our flight to Spain was via Amsterdam. I [View Full Entry]
