Much less tourists was the first thing that came to mind, so the hot Spanish girls stand out even more lol. Puts first week of uni to shame. The green on the pedestrian crossings here dont beep, they make a bird style tweet. Gives me a chuckle. Was 39 degrees the day I arrived and had a wander around but was just a dry heat so much more bearable than Barcelona. Checked out a few things in the arvo, went out for tapas and a couple of beers at night with some American guys from the hostel. Did a walking tour [View Full Entry]

Hi folks! It's been a great week here in Rota. We kept a low profile, mostly going to the beach and hunting down some of my old haunts. Rota has really changed, and I like it now more than before. No longer a sleepy fishing village, it's grown into it's own as a tourist destination. We found Pepe still alive and well. He's done some minor upgrades to the bar, but it still felt like home. Had dinner one night at Bar Yantar, the little restaurant right below the apartments we used to live in. Apparently we didn't tell Yantar we [View Full Entry]

So, let's start with the positives - I have a balcony.
Well, one short half-day after getting to Madrid, our classes started. I'm taking three classes from three Spanish Law Professors. They all have really impressive credentials - 2 are partners at global lawfirms (who teach on the side for a different prospective) and the other one cancelled the first class (clearly a slacker). Actually, he was doing something in D.C. because he is an advisor to the government and couldn't get back in time for the first class. Interestingly, the professors were very nice and apologized for their poor English skills. I think that this is rather ironic - they were [View Full Entry]

I am quickly learning that life likes to be the one in control and when you surrender to that, things get very interesting. so my three month life experience idea at falcon blanco came to a crashing end. I decided that I really want to be in a community where food consciousness was an integral component. Where i could learn to garden and work in a field, pick crops, and then eat a big salad all in one day. The unbelievable amounts of saved 'waste' at the place also were just piling up, being saved for later use. Unfortunately there seemed [View Full Entry]

Waking up this morning was in many ways a unique experience. An empty room, blank white walls jealously gazing to the huge bag filled with memories. A message on my phone; "we miss you Mike, wish we could go and eat waffles now. Memories of the last nites, the Spanish victory made the last nite even more crazy. We laughed, danced, talked, drank, hugged and cried. And not just the goodbye to friends, because a reunion between people is always possible. What is truly gone, a true farewell is to the life we all had here. A life of only 5 [View Full Entry]

So here I am in Barzana, Quiros, Asturias, Spain. haha. WWOOFing. It is very tranquil and I am living in an old house with owls as upstairs neighbors. Literally right off a tiny highway tucked inbetween mountains on each side. GREEN LUSH MOUNTAINS a sight for the eyes. perhaps even a feast Today I cleaned the house and plan to cook dinner. I am going to the store in a minute to purchase tomatoes and lettuce for a salad. I have been briefed on the fact that I will be asked many questions as the few townsfolk that exist here are [View Full Entry]

What a great week! I had my midterm last Monday in my grammar class. Of course, I set my alarm to get up early so I could study and get to class on time, but like my typical self, it didn’t work out. The test started at 9, but I didn’t actually wake up til 9:10. I frantically thew on clothes and ran downstairs. I knew it was too late to take the metro so I asked the receptionist to call me a taxi. She called but a taxi wouldn’t be there to get me for 10-15 mintues. I knew I [View Full Entry]

A good portion of Sunday afternoon was spent with the policia reporting the theft of my wallet. What an experience! The intake officer was baffled by my birthplace and that I didn't live there. He said what is a Ft. Wayne? And he told me to leave out Indiana because it could confuse the officer. He kept using the amount of $400 and no, I didn't have that amount in my wallet, nor was it worth that! All together I had about $150 worth of Euro and US dollars. Then when we came back to the hotel the desk person told [View Full Entry]

Sorry that we have not posted in a few days...the truth is we have been having too much fun!!!! However, it was not so much fun trying to get here...we had quite the adventure. Last Saturday morning we sadly checked out of our bed and breakfast and began our three and a half hour drive to Narbonne, France so we could catch a train to Barcelona. Well we did a great job of following the directions and navigating the french auto route (highway) but the drive took almost an hour longer than the directions stated....ahhh.....unfortunately we missed our train. Now normally [View Full Entry]
