Spain is a sun soaked chunk of the southern European Iberian peninsula. A popular holiday makers destination, expats home and general escape opportunity from the colder north.

Enjoy a paella in a plaza or be snack happy with Spains tapas bar tradition.

Siesta divided days will ensure that you don't waste the night by being awake all day. So, don't neglect Spains 'start late and go all night' life.

Fall Break in Barcelona Europe » Spain » Catalonia » Barcelona
For the first 3 days of our fall break we spent it in Barcelona Spain. We flew Ryanair from Pisa to Girona, I suggest not taking Ryanair. They offer extremely cheap flights but for a reason. You have to print out your boarding passes ahead of time, if you don't it is a 50 euro fee so make sure to do that if you book through them. Also, there are no assigned seats which would be fine if it was in an organized way to get to the plane. However, about an hour before the actual flight and boarding time people [View Full Entry]

We spent our last day in Spain driving through the Pueblo Blancos (white villages) in southern Spain. Had a lovely day - apart from Lucy being stung by a wasp which was very sore. Had lunch in Grazalema, a popular village with a band playing in the square where we had lunch. Drove further to Ronda which is the largest and most touristy of the villages, and is only an hour up from the Costa del Sol (ie coast full of English and German tourists). There are two parts to the village with a 100m deep gorge between them and a [View Full Entry]

It is great to escape the City and get into the country to see the more natural side of Spain. I do find it very unique and wonderful and throw in the Mediterranean and it is very special indeed. Language…a mile a minute I would like to retract any complaint I have ever made about the French speaking too fast…the Spanish put them to shame! It is almost comical to listen to news casts or conversations and trhe spead with whcih they seem to converse. It truly is amazing! However, it is discouraging when trying to understand a new language to [View Full Entry]

Last weekend marked the annual celebration of the Feast of Saint Ermengol in the Catalonian town of La Seu d'Urgell. It is supposedly documented as the oldest festival in all of Spain! La Seu d'Urgell, despite only having some 13,000 inhabitants, holds many festivals throughout the year and attracts people from throughout Catalonia as well as Andorra. It is also important in that the Bishop of La Seu is one of the Andorran co-princes. Said bishop actually died a few weeks ago, so now there's a new one, but that really isn't relevant. La Seu also was the site of the [View Full Entry]

This is the deal...You can not just walk to the Alhambra and buy entry tickets...It requires reservation and the only way for that is either at the Caixa Bank Automatic Machine or through the internet...The tickets sold are limited...They recommend two weeks advance reservations...There are people who reserve it one year in advance...I found this out from the Taxi driver in Seville driving me to the train station...A moment of panic...I talked to a lady in the tra [View Full Entry]

Hi from Laurel here... As well as this entry, we're going to re-publish the first entry from Japan. We accidentally published it as a private blog, and it was so private that hardly anyone found it (congratulations to Lindsay, who was the first to find it- no prize, but lots of glory). And now from Carolyn... Hola everyone! We left you still exploring Sarlat, looking forward to Rocamadour, Perigeux , Bergerac of Cyrano fame, Monpazier, one of the 300 incredible Bastide towns set up by Edward III, and Font de Gaume. Of course there were numerous other divine little villages along [View Full Entry]

Alan’s top ten lists - (this is what you do at night when you get bored) List one - things that have kept us awake at night in our Motorhome. Bear in mind it is hot (sorry to rub it in again) so we usually have all the windows open at night. 1) The church bells in Vers which rang every hour, with a half hourly chime for good measure, all through the night. Two sets which were about two minutes out of synch to each other. When we arrived and first heard them we looked at each other and said [View Full Entry]

Hola a todos! Life in Guardo has gotten much busier since the last time I wrote and with my travels a lot has happened in the past month! This update is long overdue... So... from Sept. 30th -Oct. 5th I was in Madrid for my teaching assistant program's orientation. The orientation events were only scheduled for Thursday, October 1st, but Spain´s Ministerio de Educación paid for our 2 night stay in the hotel where the orientation was held. They also paid for our dinner on Wednesday night, Sept. 30th, all our meals on Thursday during the orientation, and for breakfast on [View Full Entry]

Ole!!! A Flamenco guitarist, a singer, two Flamenco dancers, one man and one woman, in the middle of a enclosed courtyard of an old house in the Jewish quarters of Seville...The audience seated in the cloister area surrounding the courtyard...Firm, angry, determined, the Flamenco dancer stomped the audience into transcendence...The singer sounded like a Muadzin, his voice penetrating...The guitarist's fingers elegantly and effortlessly strobed the guitar strings...The Flamenco performance and the ambiance was magical...A great end to an eventful day...
