So the best place to begin is at the beginning I suppose so let me start by thanking you for your time in reading my blog about my adventures abroad. My time already spent in Madrid, Spain has been interesting to say the least. Just to give you a little background I am from little old Bozeman, Montana and let me clarify before we begin that we actually do have cars and yes there is a possibilty of more cows than people in the state. I attend Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA but I decided to take my adventures abroad with Saint Louis Univeristy in Saint Louis, Missouri. I am currently studing in the university in Madrid which has about 600 students ranging from American students to European students to permanent students that come from both ... read more

I just wrote a huge entry, and then my internet died :'( Update! I just bought my plane ticket home yesterday. I'm flying out of Shannon the 17th of July. I got a really great deal through cheaptickets.com. I'm flying into Dublin the 7th of July, just right after I get my last paycheck, and then spending a week travelling Ireland with Ali and hopefully Kastin and Pablo. I'm excited to see a country I have family ties to! For that reason, I really want to visit England, Scotland, and Germany. There's something neat about seeing places your family a long time ago came from. My first week of work was awesome. I have really nice and motivated students, and I really enjoy going to work. I get paid very well, too. I really can't complain ... read more

Kom endelig ... read more

Buenos Días. What a mess the past few days have been. Today is Thursday & I finally finished all of the paperwork I needed to turn in & turned it into the proper authorities today. This process took me 4 days. Now I just have to wait for them to send me a letter & then I can go & pick up my tarjeta which gives me permission to be here. This will take 2-3 months. Without this I can not get paid. The woman at the Oficina Territorial de Extranjeros me dijo that she would ask her boss if I can get the # earlier & she will call me. We'll see if that actually happens... The thing that really sucks about all of this papeleo as they say here in Spain is that as ... read more

Landing in Dubai was nothing short of a surreal experience. I’m really not sure that the whole scope of this journey has really set in, or that it ever will. To me, I’m merely carrying on my life, now immersed and surrounded by a vastly different world and its plentiful and frequent new experiences. Dubai’s airport is a massive expanse, and though I’d imagine it to be usually bustling with people, Ramadan this month means that it is more than half empty. Less than a quarter full, even. It’s about a 7 minute walk from tarmac to passport control, and the attendants behind the desks have no facial expression and don’t even bother speaking to you, except to ask your country of origin and the reason for you entering their country. It’s a further 5 minute ... read more

On Saturday 29th September we flew to Gerona airport in Spain, and then caught a bus to Barcelona, where we spent a very enjoyable 6 nights. The apartment that we had booked was located in the Barri Gotic quarter, just off The Ramblas, the famous pedestrian boulevard that cuts through the heart of the city. The Ramblas, and the streets that run off from it, are full of shops, restaurants, tapas bars, Irish & Australian pubs. They are also jam packed with people, a combination of tourists and locals. There was plenty to see and do in Barcelona. We went to see La Sagrada Familia, a huge cathederal designed by Antoni Gaudi that has been under construction since 1882. It is not expected to be completed for another 30 years or so, well over budget and ... read more

Well, I am in Madrid. My trip felt sooo long. First, Reno to Philadelphia, stay the night in Philly. Then I was at the airport six hours early today, because I had to check out of the hotel by noon. So I hung around the airport reading until my flight to Madrid. (I´ve already read two books.) We waited on the plane for over an hour before we even took off, with no explanation at all from the pilot as to what was going on. I hate flying, it is such a hassle. Also, I haven´t flown an airline besides Southwest for a while, and the seats on US Air had almost no leg room, it was horrible. But, no one was sitting in the seat next to me, so I was able to stretch out ... read more

Hi all!!!! What can I say about Barcelona? It is an incredible city! Our trip started out on Thursday evening when we (Monica, Caitlin, and I) walked down to the metro stop closest to us (Circo Massimo) in the rain, it was so much fun walking down the Aventine Hill in the rain with my weekend bag (Le Sportsac with little puppies, kittens, and ducks all over it), my purse, and my bright yellow umbrella... to say the least we, or rather I, could not have looked any more like an American college student if I tried. The Metro system in Roma, though small.. is very complicated. There are no clear signs and we could not figure out which was the best way to get to Flumicino Airoporto. Finally we got to the main train terminal ... read more

so we decided to get the hell out of dodge, gathered up 20 euros to leave the crazy columbiana, and hailed a taxi. Now if you´ve ever heard a bible story you will recognise that whenever something really poignant is taking place...when history is being made...God always seemed to send some really affirmative weather to set the scene. So imagine as we were leaving the flat, hail stones the size of skittles started pouring from the heavens like machine-gun fire.I was not tasting the rainbow! Eventually the gods had spat out enough hail that it began to flow in torrets down the street, which in Toledo, are geerally at a 40 degree angle. So as we are shielding our heads from the frozen raindrops and trying to walk upstream through the frozen gutter rapids to the ... read more
