Sevilla has out done itself! I went with my friends from school but ended up hanging with Spaniards I met! We all went out to this amazing tapas joint. You have to remember, all though Tapas is extrodinarily common in Madrid, it is from Andalusia. Sevilla's tapas are in a different league. It so interesting that here, we all ordered tons of dishes and it becomes and orgy of utensils over pools of food. In America, everyone orders there own dish. Here, when every goes out tons of dishes are ordered and you pick and chooses what you want. It's like a pig out. How deicious. Classes were great today, I'm really enjoying them. I feel so lucky to be able to have this experience here. Thanks mom and dad! It truly is an experience will ... read more

I got my phone today! It’s very exciting news. Now people can call me and if I need to go somewhere by myself, it’s possible! I felt so naked before. Now I’m complete. Hahaha. It was hard to get up for school this morning. I didn’t go to bed late, but our weekend was rough. It was hard core sightseeing man. I never walked so much before in my life. My feet didn’t really hurt, but my body was really tired and going on almost no sleep. It’s a good thing school hasn’t started yet. I don’t think I would have made it. I was falling asleep during the orientation speech. Oh well…I’m sure I’ll read about it in one of the many packets I was given. Today we also took our placement tests. I felt ... read more

How am I still functioning? I am SO tired. This study trips are hard core. My feet are going to be so messed up when I get back. No flip flops for Vonnie Voo! We visited a church called La Macarena as well as Alcazares and Paseo por el Barrio de Santa Cruz. We got money for lunch and finally came home to Madrid. I tried to sleep on the way back, but it was hard. I had to share! I think Alex saw how uncomfortable I was and he moved to the floor. Nasty, but good for me I guess. He said it wasn’t bad. That’s all. This might be the shortest entry ever. Enjoy it! ... read more

Have you guys seen the movie “Pay it Forward”. If you haven’t you need to rent it. Its great. It’s the idea that you can start a chain reaction of kindness by doing something good for one person. When they ask how they can pay you back you tell them they can pay it forward instead and do something good for three more people. Then each one of those people hopefully helps three more people. Anyway, I always think of this when I see a homeless person on the street and I am in a hurry and am thinking to myself that I don’t have time to help them and then I remember how someone has helped me out in my life and that I can spare a few minutes to go get the person a ... read more

Today was our last day of survival Spanish. I’m kind of sad that it’s over because I was learning a lot, but I’m also relived because I need time to review. My little mind needs a break! We start school on the 20th, so I’m sure I won’t be missing my opportunity to learn Spanish for to long. I love how the Spaniards are so excitable. They are like me! When they talk, they tell you everything. And they don’t just tell you, they act it out. It’s ilke story time or something. They use all their expressions and they even make noises. They talk mad fast though. Sometimes it’s hard to tell if they are talking to you. They talk and talk and talk and then out of nowhere they ask you a question and ... read more

Hello World! Sorry I haven't been on the past few days. There was nothing really new to tell you about. I have a test in Spanish in a few hours! After that I'm meeting up with Melissa Small, my friend from Marlboro who has just arrived. That'll be a lot of fun. I can't believe that I'm going to be showing someone around a foreign city. Haha. Yeah and guess where I am off to tomorrow? My favorite city....SEVILLA!!!! I can't get enough of it. So I'm off again. This time I have to see some flamenco! Lindsay is off to Florence today with one of our friends. I didn't go because after school I will be hitting Florence along with other various Italian cities when I back pack with my friend Divyan. Everyone is in ... read more

I think I have jet lag! *LOL* People say don’t go to bed when you get to Spain, but stay up and try to get your body on their schedule. Well, I stayed awake and it’s been four days, but I am still tired all the time. It could be that fact that I walk at least five hours a day, eat a lot more, or because I’m surrounded by Spanish, but I hate being tired all the time! It drives me absolutely crazy. Other than that, it’s been a normal day. I went to school, came home for lunch, and today I took my first siesta! I needed it, but it was so nice outside. I really wanted to go walking like I normally would have done. Sometimes your mind and your body don’t agree. ... read more

We went to school again and then went exploring. We went to the complete opposite side of Madrid. I think it is the older section of Madrid because it was so beautiful. There were churches everywhere and the buildings were gorgeous. Hahaha, I can’t believe Annie missed the bus today. That was the highlight of my day. I couldn’t stop laughing. We were standing at the bus stop talking and I was like, ¨Here’s our bus.¨ Laura and I got on the bus and before I knew it, the bus was leaving and there was no Annie! I don’t know what she got caught up doing, but the bus rolled out without her. Best day of my life. What a trip. Hey, at least I know where I’m going! I own this town. Yeah right! A ... read more

This was the first day of orientation. I didn’t even know what to expect. We actually have two different classes. From 10-11:45 we have language class with Monica where we learn survival Spanish. That’s like food, how to order in a restaurant, how to buy things, furniture in the house, vosotros form, just a bunch of things we will be using a lot. Then we have class with Fatima and we learn colloquial Spanish. It’s like phrases you will hear, slang, that you can’t find in the dictionary. They are both actually really interesting. Lots of Spanish, but that’s kind of the point. Get ready brain! Today was my first true day of exploring on my own. We went to Princie Pio. We walked around for two hours just seeing what it had to offer. It ... read more

The most annoying thing abut Spain is that everyone knows English. No matter how hard you try to speak in Spanish and act like you know what you are doing, they will repeat what they tell you in English after you have heard it in Spanish. Even if you understand they feel they have to emphasize something. I want to learn Spanish and try to blend in, but it’s not working. I went to Starbucks, Dounkin Donuts, and a restaurant and they all bust out with English. I wanted to hit somebody in the face! Oh well, I’m sure I’ll appreciate it every once in a while. Today we did some more sightseeing. I have NO idea where Margaret took us, but that’s where we went! Oh…delicious, she also treated us to churros con chocolate. The ... read more
