The first day was quite interesting. Apparently I can’t read because I thought the plane left at 2:55 and it really left at 2:25! The guy at the counter said if I had of been three minutes later, I wouldn’t have made the flight! So it was a really rushed goodbye with my parents. Maybe it’s better that way because I didn’t want to see anyone cry. It’s going to be so weird for my parents. I was with them for like a month and a half and even when I wasn’t with them, I saw them almost every week with soccer. Now, I won’t see them for four straight months. It’s a huge change. So after we ran to our flight I couldn’t find a seat. Since I was so late, they had let another ... read more

I haven’t left yet but I’m going to start this ahead of time so I don’t have so much to do when I get there. I’m leaving March eighth in four weeks. I’m becoming nervous about the trip though, because my school is not being very cooperative. More specifically my teachers are not being helpful, I have heard such comments as “ I don’t know how you are going to pass this course” (my math teacher) and “oh my! That is a very long time …”. This is really frustrating considering my school endorses this trip and encourages student to go. I’m sure I will get this sorted out but I’m feeling apprehensive and swamped right now. I don’t know what I am going to do it is to late to back out. Don’t get ... read more

Sorry I haven't been keeping up. I'm leaving tomorrow to Cordoba and then off to Granada. After this trip I will have seen the three former muslim capitals of Spain! It's going to be hard for these to outdo Seville. We'll see. I'm sure there will be some great pics. Have a great weekend. ... read more

So I haven't written anything lately and I was just thinking I should write something that shows all the little things that are different here. I don't have a lot of time so instead I'm posting my first assignment in Anthropology which basically asked for my first impression of Spain(there will be a second impression essay at the end of the semester). Some of it is probably exaggerated or random because I needed 3 pages. Okay, here it is... My First Impressions of Spain When I stepped off the plane in the Madrid airport, the first person I spoke to was the customs officer. He didn’t speak English and I didn’t understand what he was telling me. He was speaking very fast which is something that has not changed with the other Spaniards I have met. ... read more

Wow. 2 weeks have already gone by and it's already FEBRERO!!! Well this past weekend we took an excursion to El Escorial, a 16th Century monastary that was comissioned and home to King Felipe II. It was really cold, considering at the time it was built they didn't believe in heating...or it was yet to be invented. The "chapel" was incredible, the "retablo" or the pictures were amazing and it was cool to see a Greico painting in one of the back rooms that we just learned about in class. The residence of the King and his daughter were still in the same condition, and we saw the king's bed where he died. But that's not all...we went to the mortuary, very depressing, and morbid, but interesting, they have all the caskets of the kings and ... read more

School was fun. Lindsay and I discovered this great sandwich place. For only 2.80 Euros you can get a sandwich. I love the bocadillo de tortilla, it's a loaf of bread with tortilla espanola stuffed in the middle of it. I'm a fan. Going to start up the gym again tomorrow. Need to kill some LBS. or in this case KILOs. Travelled down to Plaza de Espana today to recharge my prepaid cell phone. Today was the last day of a great deal. You buy X amount of Euros for your phone and they double it for free! How crazy. I'm heading out right now for some coffee with friends and then off to bed. I've been enjoying catch up time with some of my school friends. Thanks guys. ... read more

Hey all. We are still in Paris with a few hours to spare and Jenn is packing in the Hotel so instead of watching Friends dubbed in French I thought I would try and update you on the last couple of days in Madrid. Jenn was feeling under the weather due to something she ate so we scheduled our days accordingly, which means very low key. On Saturday we had to truck around the city to 2 different train stations so that we could buy our train tickets to Paris. After we found a station that was open, we then came back to where we started and attempted to go see the Palacio Real (The Royal Palace) but it was closed so we just wandered around the gardens outside the palace. It was pretty late in ... read more

Our last day in Barcelona was a smashy hit. Jennifer made us a wonderful breakfast for 2€ to get a good start on a long day while we waited for our 11pm night train to Madrid. We had visited the Picasso Museum the day before and really liked the area that it was located and decided to go back and visit some of the shops. We found some good buys including some articles of clothing from a local designer, Irene Bartomeu, in her store. She was very nice and even finished the final touches on Jenn's skirt before she could take it home. We ate at a fabulous all organic restaurant called Oben for lunch and we bumped into one of the guys at the restaurant that helped us find our hostel the first night in ... read more
