After scoring waist high waves in Mundaka, Spain, I headed back to Biarritz on June 12th in order to meet up with Dan Cooke and his two friends Mike and Harry. In London, they bought a van for us to travel around in. Her name is Lucy, a 93' toyota Lucidia, turbo diesel for 900£...she's been very good to us so far. We spent the night at the hostel in Biarritz catching up over a few drinks. Never trust an Aussie with a bottle of Bundy..cause you're bound to black out...as we both did. Early the next morning we drove to San Sebastian, Spain. We all really enjoyed this city. Nice beaches, good night life and friendly people. One night we slept in an underground parking lot..I'll never do that again. Travelling westward along the coast, ... read more

Geo: 40.4637, -3.74922A terrible sleep last night - I was still up early for breakfast, which included eggs that you can cook yourself. As a side note, this place also includes pasta, rice, oil, salt, pepper, etc. Great place! Since I was at it, I also made some breakfast for Rob and Vanessa. In walked a very cute brunette Aussie girl named Angela so being the gentleman that I am, I offered to cook her some eggs, as well. I then found out she had a boyfriend, and wanted to take back the eggs ... so much for being a gentleman ... I've been up Mt. Iguelde before, but not Mt. Urgull - Angela had been up there before but wanted to do it again, so off we went. She's got some friends showing up later ... read more

Geo: 43.3172, -1.97754Up early - hot and stuffy in the room, I had difficulty sleeping. The nice thing about the late hours that Spaniards keep is that it means a late checkout - 12 PM. Off to the largest indoor market in Spain - a disappointment as less than 1/4 of the place was full. I noticed a lot of homeless people live along the river, on the way to the market. Old town was a little dead, but it was still early (9 or 10 AM). Grabbed some breakfast and walked while I ate ... my ankles are killing me for some reason. I grabbed my first cafe con leche of the trip - much better than the crappy coffee I had in the Canary Islands this past Christmas! Grabbed a newspaper to read as ... read more

We did as the locals do and had a nice long sleep in. The sun had come out so we decided we’d spend the day at the beach. We gathered a day pack and hit the supermarket to buy supplies. We headed to the surf beach and set up camp. We threw fifteeny around, went swimming, read our books and generally just chilled out. We were all shocked to see old men using the beach as some sort of naked catwalk. Each of them were sitting by themselves but felt it was necessary to walk down the front of the beach in front of everyone. Gross. A group of local guys were doing flips and acrobatics on the beach, one guy was amazing, make sure you check out the videos. I think we were watching them ... read more

My head was a little seedy in the morning and I was adamant I had heard 13 bells ring. I couldn’t believe I had slept until 1pm. Jez had thought the same but when we looked at our watches it was only 10:30am. We realised later that they had some weird bell system. The weather outside was overcast and a light drizzle. I wasn’t going to let that stop me from hitting the beach. Jez begrudgingly came with me and we bought along a ball to throw around. Jez had bought it in Valencia for me seeing as he had lost my frisbee. It was the best purchase ever, we dubbed it ‘Fifteeny’, mainly because it looks like the number 15 ball you use in pool. Anyway it skims off the water and is great for ... read more

We had another early wake up call but were more accustomed to it now. We made sure we had hardly unpacked anything the night before so we could make a beeline for the bus, (we could also make a quick escape if Terry and Sam started talking about guns again). It was quite cold, due to the high altitude I guess. We watched a few films on the bus and stopped for lunch in Burgos. It is a very religious town and had an enormous yet ornate cathedral. It is a stopping point in the pilgrim’s trip to Santiago. We walked through the picturesque streets and got chatting to an Aussie guy Brent who was on our bus. We were going to have hot dogs for lunch but after waiting at a counter for about ten ... read more

Well friends, tomorrow is the big day. Less than 24 hours from now I will be on my way, starting my Spain adventure! I have been home for almost two weeks now. Those weeks have been spent catching up with old friends, spending time with family, purchasing my first car (A 2005 Silver Nissan Sentra Special Edition...for those of you who are curious. Woo hoo!!) and of course...shopping my little heart out for Spain. My bags have been pretty much packed for a few days now, so I have been getting more and more ready to go with every day that passes. For those of you who know my packing style...you know I do NOT travel lightly. I am a "what if" packer to the max. So, I am proud to announce I have successfully fit ... read more
