Here there friends and family...so I have finally found time to start this blog. Seeing as this is my first blog and I generally hate to write, I cannot guarantee a huge entertainment factor; but at least this will keep you somewhat updated on what I have been up to. Well, since I missed doing this for the first three days I will try to briefly summarize my trip thus far. A) Spain and Malaga is pretty amazing. B) I have done more walking in these three days than I ever thought possible. C) I am not going to lose as much weight as I thought, because the food is dang delicious. At least I am getting some exercise though (so much walking!). D) Hanging with my host family and my group members is going to ... read more

The first day of orientation started the day after we all met our host families. We went to the center of the city to "La Plaza de la Marina" which is naturally right by the port. Anyways, I found my way there using the trusty public transportation system a.k.a. bus #14. I get off the bus and immediately become completely disoriented... so I bust out my impressively large Malaga map and awkwardly twist and turn it in the wind until it's right side up. An older man must have seen me struggle because he came over to me to help give me directions. After he told me which direction to walk he casually says, "I don't have a wife right now and you're very pretty and you'd be good for me" or something. WHAT!? It's like ... read more

After three long days of unpacking all my stuff from my apartment and packing for Spain, my parents and my brother and I headed to the Minneapolis airport. The boys parked the car and I checked in for my flight. Soon after my parents surprised me by also checking in. Thrilled about this idea my mom just said, "we're coming with you!". Really surprised and confused I asked if they were planning on going to Chicago for the weekend. Nope, they flew all the way to Frankfurt with me (the longest part of the trip) and then we split ways and they went to Mallorca for the weekend. They totally had me... apparently my mom slipped up a couple of times but I didn't even notice. Granted I was busy packing and preparing for my trip, ... read more

I can´t believe I´ve only been here for two weeks, it seems like I´ve been here for months already! I have already adjusted and learned so much this first two weeks, its crazy! I'm sure a lot of you guys are wondering what life in Spain, and especially in Málaga, is like..and if you aren't then bare with me because I'm going to tell you anyway! I love life in Málaga. I don't know if its the sun, or the beach or what but everything is very laid back here. I have learned that it is important to be on time for everything, but at the same time never to rush. Everything really flows together here. Maybe its all the siestas, I don't know! This past week was our first week of classes. ISA's offers ... read more

Hey everyone! How are you all? I miss everyone, and I hope you are all good. I am pretty good. Everything has calmed down here a little bit. My classes have started, so I have more of a schedule for every day instead of everything always being different. It is nice. I have 2 hours of class every day right now. It is just my spanish language class. Then, in 2 weeks, my elective classes start so I will have 2 hours of spanish language, then spanish culture, and then spanish literature. I really like my language class that I have right now, the teacher is really nice. Yesterday was a little bit funny in class. There are 6 of us in the class from ISA, the group that i here with, and there are I ... read more

Hey everyone! So wel finally made it to Malaga... finally. It is really nice down here. It is in the upper 60s every day. MY family is nice and my roommate is really nice too. We have been having alot of fun. There was a huge carnival downtown that we went to last night. It was really cool. There were people all dressed up in costumes all over the place and different stages with people singing and comedians and dancers. It was packed. It was really cool to see. Tonight we are going to the beach for the first time because they are havign fireworks down there. Spain is really cool. Everything is small here... the apartments, the cars, the resturaunts, the people... everything except the food. We have been eating so much food that we ... read more

It's Epiphany Greetings to everyone. We are ensconced on a tight campsite at Torre del Mar called Almanat. The weather since Christmas Day has been lovely apart from a couple when it rained but we were moving on then. Today we think it went up to 21°C and we sat drinking at the bar on the beach. We didn't swim though as it is still cold water. We might try before we go if we dare. We have already cycled to Nerja in the east and tomorrow we shall go west to Malaga. It's a bank holiday for Epiphany. Another day we shall go inland north to a lake surrounded by mountains. Hope all is well with you. Michael and Lesley ... read more

Malaga Spain has been a wonderful surprise, much much more than the tourist ghetto we'd been expecting. This ancient city, palpably Roman but actually occupied much earlier by the Phoenicians, has shattered our stereotype of the shallow Costa Del Sol resort town. It's actually a decent-sized city, and getting from the airport into town was more of a challenge than we'd expected, even having perused Google sat photos beforehand. (For the record, there ARE sufficient connections across the riverside natural preserve area that cyclists don't need to take the heinous Autovia bridges into town.) The GPS guided us directly to our pre-selected, Lonely Planet-approved pension, the Hotel California. (Coincidently, Kate and I first met at a same-named hotel some 15 years ago in Baja, Mexico. Everybody say "Awwwh....") The beautiful room, with a Mediterrnean-view balcony, w ... read more

So as promised, at the first opportunity I got, I went to visit my Grandmother in Andalusia. As it was a puente, and Stephanie had never been to Malaga, we decided to make a road trip out of it. So, after dropping my worldy possesions off to my third flat in the month of October (the flat I found after our Columbian disaster had turned out to be a virtual OCD library) we headed off to grab our bus to Madrid, and then our bus to Malaga! Thanks to my trusty Carnet Joven, our return tickets were 20% off! Costing each of us around £20 for a 6 hour return bus ride! Deal or no Deal?....uuh what do you reckon?! So at this price we were fully expecting a cramped and rickety coach, hurtling its way ... read more
