Hey Everyone! So, these pictures are from Semana Santa in Malaga. I took these on Palm Sunday before we left for Italy. In Malaga, Semana Santa (Holy Week) is a really big thing and they have these huge processions in the streets. They take out these huge statues from inside all the churches in Malaga and they process through the streets. The statues are of Jesus and Mary and they are enormous. They are carried like paul-bearers carry a casket, but they are a lot bigger. Some require over 200 people to carry them. They go out and go through the streets usually for about 5 or 6 hours and then return to the church where they came from. There are usually about 8 or 9 per day during Semana Santa. The processions have bands playing ... read more

lalalala... So the family came to visit me!!!! It was Grandma, Grandpa, and Mom, and it was awesome. I loved having them here, even if they did wear me out. We ate at some great resturants, one not so great one, bought too many souveneirs, and walked more than I can measure. I loved it. It was so cool being able to actually show them everything that I see here in malaga, especially the things that are harder to explain. And I loved playing travel guide. This will probably be a short entry, because they would definitely tell our stories better than I ever could. Anyway, the hotel was great, even with seagulls (or whatever they were) screaming out the window and no air conditioning. Mom even made a friend one night while smoking out the ... read more

Alix and I took the journey from Madrid to Malaga on Monday March 3rd. We were both very tired form traveling, and Alix from the time change so we were very excited to hit land. While in the city that week Alix and I saw some touristy things that I haven't gotten a chance to see, and some others thats I loved so much I had to show her. Alix stayed on my blowup mattress in my apartment and while I was in class got to know my roommates. Considering the huge language barrier they got along great and Alix was more then i could have ever asked for. While she was here it opened my eyes to how lucky I am to be in Spain this semester and how beautiful the place is. I loved ... read more

Some updates: My friend Tiffany is no longer in my Literature class, I am now alone. However, I have found comfort in knowing that the professor is very understanding. I also have my friend Fran who helps me when I don't understand something in class. He's my partner for our group presentation and we met outside of class to put it together. We finished the whole thing even though we kept getting distracted by talking about more interesting things like our travels and Semana Santa plans... I ended up talking to the professor and he agreed to let me write a paper in place of speaking in front of the class. So I didn't really have to work on the presentation but it was a good learning experience anyways. This week is Semana Santa, which is ... read more

Hola Todos! Here is the beautiful city of Málaga! I have spent a little more than a month in Spain, and have been learning a lot about Spanish culture and language. However, speaking is still very difficult. It is tough to open yourself up to speak, when you have to think about how to formulate the sentence in Spanish. Each day is a little easier, but there is something new to learn everyday, so it feels like you are just spinning your wheels. I know that with more practice it will get easier. University classes have been underway for a couple of weeks now, and they are not too difficult, yet. The have not really received any work from my classes however, and I guess there really is no work to be done. The most work ... read more

Well, I just had one big weekend. Since this is coming a few days late I might forget some things or this might turn out to be one of those rambling entries. So I apologize for either if they occur. So Morocco, or Marruecos as they say here in Spain, was phenomenal. First, I couldn't have gone with a better group of people. There were six of us altogether, five girls and one lone guy, Jim. You can see all of them on the video. They are all awesome people, and it was just a nice laid back trip with them. We all had each others backs, but there were also times where we could just do our own thing. It was pretty fun with them, and we only left a person behind once and we ... read more

Hola from Spain! So, I have been really busy lately with school and all of our excursions. My classes are fun - my grammar class is kinda hard, but the others are really fun. The weather has gotten a lot nicer here this week. It has been in the upper 60's to low 70's all week, and really sunny. It is crazy, the weather here though. It is so dry, so if you are in the shade it is pretty cool, but if you are in the sun it is insanely hot. It is really weird. They don't have any humidity even though the city is right on the ocean. I have some new pictures to put up of the Malaga soccer game that we went to. It was really fun, but it was raining thw ... read more

Saturday - our program organized an excursion to Ronda for us. Ronda is a small town in the mountains behind Malaga, with traces of its Islamic influence still present. It was raining but we made the best of it... Even in the rain I could see the beauty of the landscape. The entire city is built on a cliff and the gorges are... well, gorgeous. The city is also a lot bigger than I had expected (I was looking forward to dirt paths and donkeys...). I'd love to go back some sunny day in the future because it's only about an hour and 1/2 bus ride away from Malaga. The rest of the week was filled with classes and organizing several trips. This week only had 3 school days because Thursday is Andalucia Day... conveniently enough ... read more

Because"futbol" is the most popular sport in Spain and all of Europe, we decided to take a free Sunday afternoon and go to the Malaga futbol game. Malaga is in the secondary league of Spain; it´s like the Greenville Drive (but soccer) of Malaga. The major teams in Spain are Barcelona, Real Madrid, Sevilla, Valencia, etc. Of course the one day we decide to go to the soccer game, the temperature drops to the 40s, the cloud open up, and down pours the rain. Some luck; I mean Malaga hasn´t seen rain in months.....until we got here. None the less, we still had a pretty fun time. Malaga ended up winning 4-1 so the scoring kept the game exciting. I did expect to see more people at the game. Maybe it was the weather;but, I don´t ... read more
