So, I just said goodbye to Tamara's family since they're going to bed now and I won't be seeing them in the morning...it was a lot harder than I expected! Staying with her family has been a really nice way for me to be eased into Spanish culture before being thrown out into a new school with complete strangers. I'm going to miss having familiar faces around even if those people might live thousands of miles away from home! However, I do feel extremely fortunate to have friends here in this country that I know care about my well being and would do anything to accomodate me if they had to :) Tamara's family is calling me when I get to the hotel tomorrow to make sure things are going smoothly for me, and a few ... read more

I'm getting so excited to finally start off the semester! Its been nice spending time with Támara, but I'm ready to be done living out of a suitcase and actually have a place I can call "home" for the next few months. I've definitely enjoyed her friends and family as well, but it'll be nice to not have to hang around and just pass time anymore. Not much has happened since Saturday, although I did have another interesting restaurant experience yesterday. Támara and her family took me to their favorite place, La Casa Vía, and we shared a bunch of different tapas...I can honestly say I don't remember any of their names or what was in them! The only thing I really enjoyed was the dessert...haha. I don't really know what that was either but it ... read more

Spanish people are WHIMPS when it comes to the weather!!! It was 52 out and pretty breezy on Friday...no big deal, right? People were piling on their winter coats and parents were wrapping their kids up in 80,000 scarves. I swear they thought the end of the world was coming....I find it hilarious. In order to escape the "winter conditions", Tamara and I went to a mall in Getafe, and I decided that I pretty much love stores in Spain :) The style here is way more distinct and the variety of stores is a lot different too. Even though I've been here for almost a week I must still be stuck on Michigan time or something. Its strange....even if I go to bed at 3 am I don't feel tired in the least when I ... read more

I am quite amused by the fact that with every house I've visited, all kitchen walls are covered with household items that are all in the form of a cupboard...by this, I mean to say that if you want to find the refrigerator or dishwasher, you'll have to go through every cupboard door until you find it. There's even a microwave cupboard, and some houses have an oven cupboard built into their wall as well....its very tricky...haha Things are going really smoothly so far! I went to school again with Tamara, and ended up hanging out with Ruben's mom for quite some time since she works there. It actually turned out to be a pretty fun day with her, and I found her to be extremely entertaining. She kept asking me random strange questions about life ... read more

After a 3 hour flight to Miami and a 7 1/2 hour flight to Spain, I landed in Madrid at 8:30 yesterday morning. The airport was insanely huge and I had to take the underground metro just to get to the hall where I could pick up my luggage! After I got out of the gate, I got a little nervous because there was no exit clearly marked and I really didnt feel like attempting to use spanish since I was pretty sleep deprived, but then Tamara found me so I was extremely relieved :) Her family is really nice, and theyre letting me stay with them until I have to head to Malaga for school next week Wednesday. I spent the day with her at school, and I also proceeded to have many epic fails ... read more

Hi everyone. We are having a great time. Low key and comfortable. Stephanie and I are getting lots of rest and relaxation. We are on our own timetable. This place is very nice and the people have been great. We visited a mountain village today, old Mejas Pueblo. This town is about 10 miles outside of Malaga. Our time is coming to an end faster than I want to think about. Tomorrow we will be going to a place called Ronda and the following day to Gibraltar. The up coming pictures should be good. We will add to our adventure in a couple days.... read more

So today I woke up thinking it would be better then yesterday but I was wrong....it was raining. I know I shouldn´t be complaining given all the snow in the States. I ended up going to Cordoba and seeing the Mesquita. Mi Julia....I was thinking of you! You would have loved it! It was such an amazing mix of the musulmanes y christianas. It was so pretty. I walked around for a while after that and then headed back. It was a fun little day trip out there. ... read more

Christmas Eve was amazing. I had a great dinner and really enjoyed myself. It was a great treat. Then I surprised the folks back home...I called Mom and Grandma V. That was really fun to talk to them. So I decided to take a lazy day. Like the US everything is closed. I went to the lobby and read for a while. Then as it was becoming afternoon, the sun was out and I went for a walk. Although things were closed it was so much fun to walk around. I went to this place called Constitution Plaza. It was so fun! There were Christmas lights EVERYWHERE! I couldn´t wait to come back at night. Then there was a busy street and on the side were many vendors, much like Plaza Mayor in Madrid, except these ... read more

At the new place it is taking some time to get used to it. Mom you can let Grandma know there is plenty to eat for breakfast :) This morning I went on a sightseeing tour. I could have gotten off at different stops but only one or two places intrigued me enough that I can come back on some of my free days. Tonight I am having dinner at the hotel. They are having a special menu for Christmas. I figured it would be better to eat here then try to find something. Tomorrow not quite sure what I will do but I am sure I will enjoy relaxing and writing in my travel journal and planning the rest of my time in Malaga. Yesterday I fould a cool TV game show in Spanish. I ... read more
