Our experience in Dublin was about this quick... 1) Huge needle in the sky, we were told it was the Biggest building in Europe... but actually only in Dublin city center. 2) We saw Anna Freedman, which was awesome, eventhough she was our bartender. 3) Beer at noon. 4) On one hour of sleep and won't sleep til Paris. (about 30 hours from DC to Paris with 1 hour of sleep). 5) No leprecans.... read more

I'm updating again right away. Ha. It was really fun coming back here again, but I must say that Dublin has sure changed a lot! I dunno if I just imagine it or if the big, ultra modern buildings were here in 2006. I really enjoyed realizing that I still remembered the city centre quite well. A geek shop where I bought my Wolverine posters is still there, but the 24/7 pc games place (I bet most of them played WoW) is no longer there. I really like Dublin, it's such a mixed up, muggled up, shook up world*. A lime green shop wall, you look up, and see a really dirty, gray brick wall above it. A walk of, what, 50 metres around the Temple Bar area, and I saw three musicians and a guy ... read more

Yesterday I * walked around (mostly because museums and such were closed when I arrived) * for several minutes, chatted with a garbage man who - knew that Helsinki is the capital of Finland, but couldn't remember Stockholm - doesn't think he'd like having a lip ring - should consider opening a tourist information centre * couldn't understand how to get the key card system in hostel to work (locks seriously dislike me!), here's hoping I'll manage today * was really annoyed at one girl in the dorm who didn't whisper when people tried to sleep, and accordingly lost one of my earplugs, and realized my ears are too small for them anyway * took loads of photos of buildings. So pretty! * came across soooo many Finns (all of them probably took the same plane ... read more

Woke up this morning with a very sore head! Not that the alcoholic beverages weren't of top quality, I just drank too much for someone who just travelled half way around the world. I was drinking Murphys and Bulmers ...Murphys is like the local Guinness in Cork and Bulmers is an alcoholic apple cider....I recommend it! I think I had it before in the USA but it was called Magners..identical and great After rising from my camper bed in John's TV room, I eventually got my thoughts together. Then we got out and about about 3pm.......we didn't go far!! We got a sandwich in a snackbar on the waters edge in Crosshaven and we went back to Cronin's for a few more Murphys. We didn't stay long so and just chilled out on the pier for ... read more

My cousin Daniel came to visit me in London and we decided to take a couple of little weekend mini-breaks away. Our first weekend away was to Ireland (Dublin) and we had such a great time!! It may have taken us a good hour and a half of aimlessly walking the streets to try and find our hostel, but it was totally worth it to be able to experience Guinness in Ireland!! And yes, I did spend most of my time wondering where the lepricorns lived and where I could find one (or catch one), but I also got to experience a cute little country that very patriotic and green. Up early Saturday morning to board a coach for a trip around the land. It was a full day drive, and I am guilty for falling ... read more

If you want to know how I saw an alpaca in real life you need to read through. This Saturday I headed out to the west of Ireland for a sightseeing adventure. I went with a friend of mine from JMC, Kelly, who came here to study abroad for a month! I went with her and a bunch of people from her program who were all really nice girls, one guy, one woman who was in her 40's, and their program faculty people---interesting mix, huh? All nice people, all happy times. We headed out wicked early on Saturday (6am) to catch the 8am train from Dublin to Limerick. It took a few hours and the train ride was grand. We got there and met up with our tour guide who collected us (I am picking up ... read more

G'day Ireland, I arrived in Ireland on Sunday June 8. Arriving in Cork Airport at 10am after a 4 hour 'connection' in London heathrow, I was amazed at the difference. Cork Airport is a very small Airport with a terminal building that should be at a large airport.....hence you get through in minutes, no crowds, no hassle. Makes Heathrow look like a zoo. I met my mate John who has been in Ireland for 3 years and he drove me to Crosshaven where he lives right now. We went directly to a pub in the middle of the village called cronins . We mwt up with some Welsh people, some Grermans and of course some very entertaining locals. John seemed to know them all. Nice to see a genuine Irish pub, nothing like the ones that ... read more

‘So it’s your birthday on the weekend and I thought it’d be a good idea if we went away for it.’ ‘Wow, cool. So where are we going?’ ‘Ahh, it’s a surprise.’ ‘Really? Can I have a clue?’ ‘Uhh, OK. We’re catching the train after work on Friday. Make sure you finish on time.’ So, backpack equipped we arrive at the station in time to catch our five o’clock train. ‘You know how I said that we’re catching a train, well we’re actually catching the bus to the airport because we’re going to Dublin! Happy birthday! Did you bring your passport?’ (Worriedly) ‘No!’ ‘Don’t worry, I packed it for you!’ The flight is very short. We go up, and not long after, we’re going down. As we approach, even though it’s almost eight at night, the ... read more

Melissa and I finally arrived in Dublin around 9:20 dublin time yesterday morning (6/4/08). Yesterday we were pretty pooped and couldn't really do anything exciting. The weather was a bismal. It was raining everywhere, but thankfully i brought an umbrella and Emily and Melissa were able to buy them here. Today we woke up, ate breakfast at the hostel (nothing too great, but it's free food), then left for a bus tour. We rode it around Dublin one round through, then had lunch at a cafe, then went back to visit the sights. We only got to an art and history museum. We liked to linger... I really enjoyed the art museum, it just gets me so excited to see the art in paris and florence. Today we found out that the last super by DaVinci ... read more

Where In The World Did We Get To?? Contrary to popular belief the Buckley family haven't been whisked away by a band of renegade leprechauns. We arrived safely in Ireland but poor/expensive internet access made blogging difficult...better late than never so they say. We had a very smooth and quiet crossing on the Stena Line ferry between Stranraer and Belfast, just under 2 hours sailing time. Only just made the check-in time as the road we took down the West Coast of Southern Scotland between Kilmarnock and Stranraer was narrow and winding with no opportunity to overtake. The ferry was full of young guys (looked like a football team) heading home after a big game over the long weekend or perhaps just a footy trip for the end of season. Anyway, they obviously weren't too hungover ... read more
