Top o' the mornin to ya lads, After I finished my research paper for class on Saturday, I decided it was time to see some of the Irish countryside. I drove down to a small city along the coast called Tremore. It was only about a 15 minute drive and relatively easy to find. Tremore was much different than I expected. There was an amusement park and the streets were lined with arcades, games and what looked like a boardwalk. It felt like what I think Coney Island must have been like in the 1940's. It was definitely a local hangout for teens and families. The beach had some sand, but nothing like Florida. It was overcast and pretty cool so I didn't even try the water. I headed back into Waterford, had dinner at a ... read more

After attending class on Saturday, I left for the KC airport. Flights were fairly good. Delta did not provide individual TVs so we all had to look at the public TVs attached to the roof. I, of course, had the seat where the TV in front was too far and the one closest to me was above my head. I think I caught most of the movie, but I will have to watch it again to fill in some of the details of which I couldn't see. We landed in Dublin about an hour late because of head winds so our gate was not ready. We deplaned the entire 767 by a staircase and we were loaded on to buses. Not a big fan of that since I was one of the last people off of ... read more

We set out early and decided to stop in Ros Mare for breakfast. We ordered two traditional Irish breakfasts and the disappointment in Kevin’s face when he found out that black and white pudding was not the Jell-O pudding that he was used to was truly priceless. From there we headed to Waterford and took their factory tour. It was very interesting and the skill and time that it takes to make each piece was amazing. From there we drove on to Blarney. We walked through the castle and grounds and even kissed the stone despite the rumors we had heard about it. We had a great lunch in a pub in the center of town and had a lot of fun just people watching while we enjoyed our meal. We had made a reservation at ... read more

Waterford.. So much pretty glass, why does glass have to be expensive and heavy and break?! For those that dont know, Waterford here in Ireland is home to Waterford Crystal, worldfamous for their glassware, they make all the sporting trophys that you see at the tennis and golf and the Ashes cup and their stuff is so beautiful hey, I spent so long in their gift shop wishing I could buy it all but finally deciding on a pair of champagne flutes and white wine glasses, presents to myself for my 21st.. And got them shipped home for free so cant complain about that! My hotel here in Waterford is right on the river and the view is fantastic, not much else really to report from Waterford, main reason for the visit was Waterford Crystal, am ... read more

Well it was a busy-ish weekend! I went to Cork with some people from work and we went to a pub and then a club. I thought it was so crowded in both locations but apparently it wasn't that busy! Bars let out at 2am and everyone just piles into the streets and heads out to find chips and other greasy foods. I would compare it to the busy-ness in the streets you'd see in Edmonton at a festival. It's pretty busy and people just spill into the roads. Saturday was spent with another food party...yummy! I made a spanakopita but there was no phyllo pastry or even frozen dough to be found anywhere in Fermoy! So I improvised and made a bread base and topping. It was tasty! We also had risotto, stuffed tomatos, stuffed ... read more

Hi all, Can't believe that I only have 2 days left in Ireland. After I last wrote to you I ended up going on a pub crawl in Dublin with other backpackers. Only 9 of us so it was a great way to meet a few other people and see some of the local pubs including Dublin's smallest pub. Had a british person leading the tour, quite typical apparently. The morning after was hilarious. I was staying in a hostel room with 10 others and we heard strange noises, I thought it was coming from the kitchen on the floor below, but one girl got up and looked out of the window. We couldn't believe what we saw. There were two trucks and 5 guys outside rolling empty kegs across the cobblestone road to get them ... read more

Waterford: Got car from Airport in Dublin (Budget), and headed to Waterford to visit Waterford Crystal Factory before going to Cashel. Tour was great and not expensive, but the crystal sure was! Manoli bought a cute vase that she had engraved there. We also got a photo of us holding a cheap (just a few thousand bucks!) piece of crystal. I'd recommend this tour anyone.... read more
