I flew into the Irish county of Kerry on Monday afternoon (14th May). Unfortunately there is a lack of internet access on the isolated West Coast and although my cousins have it in the house they are still using dial up and it’s making things very difficult for blog updating so I will be publishing this entry after my return to London. I am staying in the town of Ballybunion. A place not renowned for good weather. It is where my mother grew up and it’s a lovely if somewhat quaint part of Ireland where the people are friendly but perhaps still a little guarded of strangers. Ballybunion is famous for its pubs (there are about 14 of them in the main street!) seaweed baths and its castle which unfortunately is a shadow of its ... read more

(From Erin:) This is our last day in Killarney. We've had two bits of not-so-much-fun in the past couple of days. (1) I got sick and (2) My videocamera has stopped working properly. Fortunately we brought along medicine and I'm feeling much better, but the camera is still on the fritz. Oh well. Today is exactly one week that we've been in Ireland and we're still kicking ourselves that we're here and getting to see & experience all these amazing things. So, little did we know when we booked ourselves into this lovely little lakeside town that the first weekend in May, Killarney plays host to the Rally of the Lakes car race. So, every meathead in Ireland (and England) with a souped up Honda Accord has come here to Killarney to rev their engines, show ... read more

Hello everyone -- writing tonight about our day spent yesterday on Ireland's lovely Dingle Peninsula! We got an early start out of Killarney and headed northwest toward Dingle. Our first stop along the long and winding road was Inch Spit... a long sandbar in a town called Inch. It was actually totally, shockingly lovely -- it was quite warm, cloudless and beautiful. Almost like we were in Hawaii again. We've included some photos below... Erin was inspired, as you can see. Well, Kevin was inspired to make her do that... We got back on the road and eventually made it to Dingle town, the place of Rick Steves' dreams. It really is a fantastic place -- reminded us of a New England coastal town somehow. We arranged for a boat tour (more on that in a ... read more

Today (Thursday) we left Co. Clare and headed south to Killarney and Co. Kerry. We took a shortcut across the Shannon River via ferry, which was fun. It was just a short ride and we were able to see dolphins jumping in the water around the boat. From there, we drove into Co. Kerry and through the city of Tralee. We finally made it to our destination, Killarney. We'll be here for the next three nights. Killarney sometimes gets derided as a total tourist town, but I actually find it more pleasant than Doolin (which was just too rural for us). Killarney is set on the edge of Killarney National Park. It's some of the most beautiful lake and mountain scenery you can imagine. The weather continues to be unseasonably warm, sunny and gorgeous, so today ... read more

Well yesterdays tour took me to the Ring of Kerry, was actually supposed to be doing that today and the Dingle yesterday but talk about disorganised! not me the tour company, so I found myself on the Ring of Kerry yesterday with only a "it might go ahead tomorrow" to accompany my wish to go to the Dingle Pennisula. I seriously think I was spoilt in Edinburgh with those tours, every other tour so far has just been disappointing, maybe thats because in Edinburgh I had hot tour guides (kidding hehe) whereas here in ireland they have only been old men haha but so far no tour has matched those two tours taken from Edinburgh.. Anyway the Ring of Kerry, the must see thing here in Co. Kerry as well as a must if you're visiting ... read more

Well believe it or not (Mr. Bush) global warming is a very much real and very much affecting the world. In the Scotland Highlands there was no snow on the peaks and in Ireland it is dry as a bone!! One can only hear "It is crazy weather," only so many times before anyone with a 5 year olds brain capacity begins to put one and one together and actually know the answer is two (Mr. Bush?). Anyway, after my lil speal there I shall recap the happenings of the past couple of days. I believe that the last I said anything I was in Edinburgh. If not I was and it is an amazing place. Since then I have traveled out of Scotalnd, across Wales, and into Ireland. Spent last night in Dublin. I was ... read more

We woke up in Kilarney, ears still ringing from the night before, but ready to go. Sarah had some tea with a lovely women from England, and we all did some last minute shopping at Dunnes (like a Walmart). Unfortunately, Gabriel recieved some bad news about one of his friends, which changed the tone of the ride a little. We crossed the Shannon River on a Ferry (bus and all) and Kris saw a Dolphin. We learned a lot about the potato famine throughout our journey (very depressing). The history learned on tours like this is awesome, it really makes you feel like you know the country and its people better. The most breath-taking sights were on the Cliffs of Moher (see pictures below). Words cannot describe! After a picnic lunch in a small farm ... read more

Our last day in Ireland was spent driving the Ring of Kerry. Kerry boasts some of the most beautiful scenery in Ireland, and rightfully so. We started out from Cork and drove to Killarney. From there was drove the Ring clock-wise, much against the suggested route, which I understood by the end of the day. Our first site were the Lakes of Killarney. I'm not sure how to describe it. Just peak down at the pics to get an idea. We must have pulled the car over half a dozen times in that first hour to look at the scenery. My most unwanted and frustrating traveling companion, who also happened to be the driver (due to the fact that neither I nor Gaby are actually old enough to drive a rental vehicle) insisted on stopping ... read more

Jackie here: Blarney Castle is our trip on the 18th . Touring the castle was great although Tammy and I refrain from kissing the Blarney Stone. The boys did it and now are entitled to some crazy mojo! The drive to Killarney is next. Steve is doing a great job driving and it is quite stressful. I will think twice about complaining about the 101 or 210 freeways. Most importantly, we find a bar with no cover, and a live band that stays open until 2. The band 'DRIVE' is not quite the crowd-pleasers we hoped for, but they have no waiting for drinks and a wicked fog machine that Tammy gets a chance to operate. Live music gives way to a DJ, but thankfully he mixes dance music with some guitars. We dance (?!) ... read more
