Keflavik airport is often known as Reykjavik airport to avoid confusing stupid travellers, but it is actually a good 23 miles away from Reykjavik (not close, although this is less than Gatwick is from London), and the capital has its own airport right on the edge of the city, so I’m not sure how well it succeeds in not confusing stupid travellers. However, being the only international airport in the country (Reykjavik’s being used for domestic flights only), you can’t really go far wrong, unless you decide to get a taxi into the city instead of the bus, in which case you’ll probably need a loan to fund the rest of your trip. The buses aren’t exactly cheap either, costing us £9 to get into the city. For an extra £2 they’ll drop you off at ... read more

I was so excited conming here...more excited than I have been in a very long time. A new air company... Air Iceland... all so new. I got so many lovely insights...the scale of time, volcanos, hundreds of years of continuous written history, almost no carbon footprint, everyone we met has been so nice and helpfull, lovely food, not so expensive, fantastic landscapes... and the list goes on and on. This is just a note from the spot, i hope to elaborate when i get home, so keep tuned. Doug.... read more

Okay, so I'm slacking on the blog entries. It seems like each day, 75% is spent seeing things and 25% is spent planning things to do next. I don't mind it, really, especially now that my sleeping schedule is beginning to get on track. Each night I write down what I did during the day so that I remember. Seems like a bit of a blur since I landed and catching a cold over four rainy days in Reykjavik didnæt help much, either. I landed in Oslo yesterday morning, but want to catch up on the things that happened in Iceland, so you'll just have to hang in suspense (all 2 or so of you who I imagine check this blog...) My second day in Reykjavik was mostly dedicated to sleep. I befriended a Canadian man ... read more

Few minutes to write before heading out into the rain. PHOTOS TO BE ADDED LATER AS THIS INTERNET CONNECTION IS PAINFULLY SLOW. With all the running around leading up to the trip, it didn´t really hit me that I was leaving until I was sitting on the runway at Logan. A little excitement, a little anxiety, at that point I couldn´t turn back so it was really all arbitrary. The flight was choppy and I didn´t sleep well (my seat wouldn´t allot me the .3 inches of reclining that really doesn´t make a difference, but really does, all at the same time.) Flight was somewhat choppy and I probably got about an hour of sleep before landing in Keflavik at 6.15 GMT (there´s a 4-hour time difference between here and Boston.) The ride from Keflavik to ... read more

... read more

I'm not sure how much exactly I had stayed awake, the flight from Hong Kong was just too long and have been vomitting badly for the whole 13 hours flight to London Heathrow, when I reached Rekjavik it was next day evening. The capital, used to be one of the most expensive city in the world in terms of living standard - before the financial crises. Before I came to this country, I heard that everything is so cheap, currency has been slumped more than 60% since 2008, however, Iceland is still expensive even compares for European standards. We arrived Keflavik Airport in late afternoon where the last airport bus to the city, was waiting for all passenger on our flight. So I had to purchase my shuttle ticket quickly and exchange the money that I ... read more

DAY 131 I left Charles De Gaulle airport really early in the morning. My flight was only 3 hours and what an airline (Icelandic Air). I had a tiny screen right in front of me and I could choose the movies I wanted to watch. I did have to buy my sandwich for 3 euros but the Pepsi was free. A really smooth flight. I landed in the Keflavik airport to find that I had gained 2 hours. Fabulous!! The drive to Reykjavik took about 35 minutes and then only to the bus station where I took a taxi to my hotel. I AM IN ICELAND!!! I can hardly believe it! My first impressions is that it is an island of mystery with dark looming clouds hanging over the mountain and the city itself. A cool ... read more
