Attached are photos from a week in Iceland in May. We saw geysers, glaciers, beaches. We drove through the ash cloud (and came out the other side) and soaked ourselves in the thermal waters of the Blue Lagoon. We experienced the 'runter' or pub crawl in Reykjavik (turning up at a pub at around 10pm in daylight and leaving it at around 3am in daylight was very confusing!). Went wale watching. Ate puffin! A very eventful week.... read more

A long weekend trip to Iceland is a fantastic getaway from London. Iceland is very unique in that it offers something that you don't find anywhere else in Europe - vast amounts of space and interesting landscapes...the kind of thing you take for granted when you come from Australia and have travelled through South America. We were happy just to get to Iceland after the volcanic eruptions of early 2010 which caused havoc across European airspace and required some fairly large scale clean up of part of Iceland. By the time we arrived there was no sign of volcanic eruption, well much of the landscape was already molten lava, so at least not any evidence of recent volcanic activity. Iceland has become considerably cheap since the global financial crisis. It isn't hard to understand why. A ... read more

Ensuite, on va déjeuner. On veut ensuite se rendre ... read more

Sooooo no blog for a long time. Well that's simply because I haven't been travelling....well outside Iceland anyways. No plans of going abroad this year.....economy not so good at the moment. Anyway there's a lot going on here these days. There are volcanos erupting and politicians aswell. Flight all over the world have been cancelled due to ash clouds, going on for 4 days now. There's a bit of talk going on regarding the situtation of the country and people abroad seem to think that we walk around with masks and everything is going to hell. But honestly I wouldn't know there was an eruption going on if I didnt watch the news. We here in the city wouldn't notice a thing otherwise. There is no ash here and infact it's only in a rather small ... read more

The rumor about Reykjavik's nightlife is true! We went out on Saturday to a place on Laugavegur called Oliver's, which happened to be the most crowded and popular nightclub in Reykjavik city centre. The music was great, the dancefloor was pumping, the people were wonderful and the beer wasn't at all as expensive as one had imagined. Yesterday, after a long mornings sleep and a tired hangover, we took the bus out to Blue Lagoon (one of the geothermal spas) and bathed for a couple of hours. The water was steaming hot and it did good This morning we went whale watching just of the coast of Reykjavik bay. There wasn't any action for a couple of hours until the last 40 minutes when we saw a group of what I thing was Purpoises (spelling?). From ... read more

The hot shower refreshed and energized me. I got dressed and headed out into the rain to find something delicious to eat. I went to a place called Saegreifinn, which is famous for its lobster soup. Saegreifinn is a small place located right on the harbor not far from the downtown area. The owner is an old fisherman who still goes and negotiates the best catches from the ship captains. He reminds me of the soup Nazi from Seinfeld. Know what you want if you plan to go in there. I had the lobster soup and a halibut kebab. Both were absolutely excellent. I can’t remember ever having fresher fish, and the lobster soup was amazing. If you go to Reykjavik go eat at this place. I walked around a bit after dinner and then headed ... read more

Runtur on Saturday is like Runtur on Friday dialed up. Glasses being thrown from balconies, security kicking in doors of restrooms because two chicks were in there for about 15 minutes together doing God only knows what, an old dude getting punched in the face while moshing to Rage Against the Machine, an 18 year old girl revealing that she has slept with 30 guys at that point in her life. Runtur is crazy folks. It reminds me of New Orleans with a younger age demographic and involving people from all over the world who have a Vegas, what happens in Reykjavik, stays in Reykjavik attitude. I had decided to hang out with the group of Americans that I had met the night before. Aaron and Lindsay were going to watch a few metal bands and ... read more
