I usually do city trips alone or with a friend so feeling a bit uncertain at the thought of travelling to Munich with a small group of friends. Having to remind myself that I can't do things at my usual fast pace and just go with the flow of whatever the group decides. Things start off badly when we almost don't make the plane for Munich. Thanks to motorway closure, motorway road works and then getting lost trying to find the park and ride facility. We find ourselves having only 20 minutes before our gate closes as we arrive at London Gatwick airport terminal. We are lucky there is no check-in required and no queues through security. I sprint with a friend, running through the duty free and down to the gate like a silly boy ... read more

I flew to Munich on the 7th of October, flight HV 9132, and I returned to Copenhagen on the 10th, with flight HV 9131. Both flights were on time and I was happy enough with the company operating them (Transavia). I rented a car for the whole period - a Fiat 500X - and I spent all 3 nights in Puchheim, at Das Seidl Hotel & Tagung. On Saturday, I went on a short roadtrip to the castles of Hohenschwangau, Neuschwanstein and Linderhof, but I did not visit the interior of either of them. The small hike up to Neuschwanstein and then to Marienbrucke (the bridge that offers a spectacular view of the castle) was quite nice, despite the less-than-ideal weather. Also, walking around the gardens at Linderhof is a pleasant experience. On Sunday, I went ... read more

Today was the first day of the trip where the pace wasn’t GO-GO-GO and it was nice. We decided to take it easy today and play everything by ear. We slept in and met up at Galleria Kauphof (German department store – every city in German has at least one if not more) to get a few last minute tweaks for our lederhosen and dirndls for tomorrow! We had lunch at the café in the Kauphof, which was surprisingly good and the decided to check out the English Gardens. We tried our luck at the U-Bahn (subway system) and found it very easy. The subway stations are awesome because they all have nice stores, nice places to grab a bite to eat, nice places to get just about whatever you need, all at your subway stop. ... read more

Geo: 48.1391, 11.5802Travelling is a funny sort of thing. Especially big trips like this one. You build it up in your mind and try to keep the anticipation in check. Then the trip arrives and it's a flurry of traveling and getting settled into the trip. The first few days always seem to go at a nice steady pace, and then by the time you are halfway through, it seems like the afterburners kick in and before you know it, you're on a plane again, heading home. This trip was no different.I awoke around 4:30 am. Unable to fall asleep again, I jumped online to check us into the flight ..... aaaaand we're delayed. After I did the check in, I tried to catch up on this travel blog a bit but I was just fuzzy and ... read more

August 19, 2016 Munich is the capital and largest city of the German state of Bavaria. It is the third largest city in Germany, after Berlin and Hamburg and the 12th biggest city of the European Union, with a population of above 1.5 million. The city is known for its annual Oktoberfest celebration and cavernous beer halls, including the famed Hofbräuhaus, founded in 1589. In the walkable Old Town, Marienplatz is a central square containing landmarks such as Gothic Neues Rathaus (town hall), with a popular glockenspiel show. This a clock tower with little bonhommes that come out and dance to the sound of music. August 20, 2016 Today we went on a most informative walking tour: Third Reich Tour Hitler's Munich. Munich is the birth place of Nazism. The tour covered all important facts and ... read more

I am eager to arrive in Munich and get this years European vacation started. As I am quite familiar with Munich, I felt very comfortable once I arrive, and as usual, the first task is to find the train to my hostel. I had already gotten some Euros before I left the states, so I was good there. Before long, I am on the train to my hostel. I follow the directions and arrive at the stop listed in the instructions. Now, in a metro station, you have several exits, with each one putting you on a separate street, or side of a street. The instructions tell you to exit and then go down a certain street. I seem to always pick the wrong exit, and I have to just figure it out. Anyway, I depart ... read more

We are running a bit behind with our blogs. Last month, the beginning of july, we could enjoy a long weekend travelling from Switzerland the 6 hours by car to Munich and further on to Tirol in Austria. Again we were following our spiritual master Paramahamsa Vishwanandawho was giving one darshan (a personal blessing) in Munich and 2 in Austria. In Munich we stayed in a pretty decent and cheap (great value for money) hotel in Pasing, Hotel Alte Post. It is close to the train station and in about 10 min. by train you can reach the CBD. Just after arriving we had to hurry up to, get dressed and ready for the darshan. It was an amazing event. As there were many tourists in the area and the side doors of the hall were ... read more
