Brittany France 1 to 4 October 2014 After leaving La Mont Saint Michel, we drove west, close to the northern coast of France, towards Cancale where stopped briefly. It was yet another lovely little French village. We then travelled a further 20 kms to Saint Malo, another harbour town with a stack of history. Once the feared base of pirates (corsairs), heavily fortified against Norman (or English) attack, today's Saint-Malo is one of the top tourist draws in Brittany. We were struck by the size of the Ramparts of the walled city (La Ville Intra-Muros). There was also the well preserved Chateau. The town was badly damaged during WW2 but they have done an excellent restoration job. Saint Malo is also known for its tidal power station, which was the world's first. Rennes is not often ... read more

Geo: 48.65, -2.01667 We left our hotel and drove to Mont St. Michel. Its an island, that has a small village with an Abbey on the top, inhabited by monks. They have been there since 873 AD. The place is really cool. The village was packed with tourists and souvenir shops. We opted for a 4 ticket package to 4 sites on the island. Luckily not many people were doing this and we didn't have a lot of people around. We worked our way to the top of the island, where the church and abbey were. Great views from there. The tide here is tremendous. It rises and falls 50 feet. We got there at low tide and couldn't see the ocean. When the tide is up, the water slaps against the walls around the village. ... read more

It was a beautiful day so we decided to drive all the way around the Brittany peninsula to get to Roscoff rather than cut across country. It was a very pleasant drive indeed with lovely views of the coast from time to time. Before we knew it we were trying to find somewhere to park in Roscoff's busy little streets. We ended up in a side road in a residential area and carrying our bags down an alleyway to find our hotel. The Hotel d'Angleterrewas a lovely place, like a traditional B&B with big, comfortable rooms. The glorious weather continued into the evening so we took a walk around before finding somewhere for dinner. Last year had had a glimpse of the town and we were pleased we had taken the time to see it more ... read more

Bordeaux to Roscoff in one go was a bit more than we like to do, so we decided to stop along the way. The original plan had been to see what Nantes had to offer, but rather than go to another big city, we looked at the map and found the town of Vannes just a little bit further up the route. What a good decision that turned out to be, although when we arrived we could barely see a few yards in front of us thanks to the mist and the heavy drizzle. We did manage to find our hotel. This time we were in a B&B Hotel, a step up from the F1 we used in Bordeaux, but still a budget hotel. The main difference is that the bathrooms are en-suite and the rooms ... read more

Her taraf yemyeşil .. Nasıl olmasın be kardeşim ? Çok yemişim… ben... read more

Second day Fougeres to Croan 44miles A challenging cycle today due to gusty winds up to 30mph, panniers create a lot of wind age. We managed to avoid the heavy showers. Our first stop was Vitre (20miles) passing through several sleepy villages on the way, all the inhabitants either in bed or hiding behind their closed shutters. The gardens were immaculate & the farms quiet, lots of horses, chickens, goats, donkeys & guinea fowl. Vitre is a beautiful town with lots of medieval half timbered houses some of which house cafés & all appear to be well preserved. The streets are narrow with many cobbled areas. We had a coffee in the square this time avoiding the cakes ! We bought bread ,pate, cheese & picnic in a village called Meral sitting at a bus stop ,not ... read more
