The name Quimper comes from the Breton kemper "confluent" because the city was built on the confluence of the Steir, Odet and Jet rivers. The city is famous for its Quimper faience pottery, many old products are cast as collector item in the antique market. one could visit the Quimper faience museum in Locmaria. The Quimper old town are full of many pretty half-timbered houses and shops, and the huge two towers Cathedral of Saint-Corentin dominated the skyline of the city. I came through Quimper just for other festival event in further destination, so I didn't see that much of the city.... read more

We were heading to a local beer brewery for a visit. The Philomenn building seat right by the River Jaudy once we cross the bridge. It is a small brewery. The brand was created by two brothers in 2007, the logo for the beer is an image of a woman wearing the tradition headdress call " Touken ", she was Marie-Louise, the great grandmother of the two brothers. The tour was simple and brief, with standard information about the company and their products, followed by a beer tasting section at the end. The beer ain't bad and quite a refresh in fact, each with its unique favour, I quite like the Tourbee that came with a touch of whisky taste. You couldn't find the beer in shop and market, they deal directly to the local pub ... read more

Day 111 Friday 3 July Friedrichshafen to Blois 39c in Paris bloody hot We woke up and got ready to leave then had breakfast. Jonas left for work and Dani drove us down to the station where we said goodbye and thanked her very much for the great time we had with them. They are certainly a fabulous couple. We boarded our train and went to Stuttgart passing through a very heavy storm. The German country side was very green and the villages looked beautiful. We changed at Stuttgart onto the TGV to Paris. For the first part we had the carriage to ourselves. We had made lunch at Dani and Jonas and had just finished eating it when the staff brought around a complimentary meal "for our international first class passengers." We ate some of ... read more

After disruptive strikes on behalf of the Channel ferry operators which affected eurotunnel journeys, I arrived in Mont Dol via a night in London with Ali and Izzie. Here for the summer - a time for walking on beaches, helping run Manoir de L'Ormelais, with luxury bed and breakfast accommodation and gites. Lucy and Olivier, friends from Dubai, own this gorgeous manor House and run it during the summer months.... read more

Borrowed the words from Wikipedia : "A Pardon is a typically Breton form of pilgrimage and one of the most traditional demonstrations of popular Catholicism in Brittany. A Pardon occurs on the feast of the patron saint of a church or chapel, at which an indulgence is granted." Since the year 1619 Guingamp will organised a Pardon and feast for the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary every year on the first Sunday of July. Started with a solemnly mass in the Basilica Notre Dame de Bon Secours, one should overwhelming by the serenely of the hymn while touch by the powerful sound of the organ and flute resounding under the concave ceiling of the stone structure. A parade was setting up afterward, leading by flag holders, the statue of Notre Dame, priests and clerks, worshiper ... read more

After an overnight trip across the English Channel to France, we drove to the farmhouse of our French relatives, Nat and Cathy, and their children Alex, Suzanne and Emilie. The 17th century farmhouse came with three hens, a rooster, two cats and various other animals, as well as a tractor, copse of small trees, orchard, trampoline and redcurrant and blackcurrant bushes. It is near La Mesiere, a small village. My Uncle Stu, Auntie Isa and their children Julian and Lucas were visiting from Australia too, so we spent the weekend with lots of family. The next day we went to Bayeux to see the Bayeux tapestry and the Bayeux Cathedral. The Cathedral had a crypt underneath. I took a video of the whole building, which took up a lot of space because the Cathedral was huge. ... read more

Another scooter day and Kisbee has really enjoyed itself whizzing us along the quiet lanes of this beautiful part of Brittany which we have been enjoying so much. It did help that the sun was out and shining beautifully with just a hint of cloud to protect us from burning. We stopped first at the Moulin de Craca. A full sailed windmill on a cliff top overlooking the bay of Paimpol. Only two problems. One, the mill is only open to visitors on Sunday and Tuesday and it was Saturday. Two, the carpark was pretty full with traveller, French ones this time, caravans, vans, and campervans. We noted that they were stealing electricity by wiring their cable directly into the windmill’s external supply. We decided not to park Kisbee in among them so drove through the ... read more
