A scooter day out today and it was altogether very enjoyable. First stop Paimpol which delighted us. A busy harbour town with the harbour spread across two sides of the lock access to the open sea. We noticed that the majority of the boats have sails so presume this is a good piece of coastline for sailing. To brighten up the harbour’s edge there was an exposition of Cochons, similar to ones we’ve seen before of decorated cows but these, somewhat amusingly, were a line of brightly coloured pigs. The town itself is quite a reasonable size and has a lot of roads crossing it as we found out later when we tried to find the right road out of town. We went for a stroll through the streets, most decorated with colourful bunting and filled ... read more

Left our site at Carantec to travel a bit further West to Cap Horn, just south of Paimpol. We drove along some very pretty Breton countryside with occasional glimpses of the sea as the road went nearer to the coast. Lannion was an interesting town to drive through. Built along a river we were amazed to see the most enormous market along one side. We weren’t held up by it for long but I doubt we would have found anywhere to park if we had planned to stop here. We realised as we were driving along that we were likely to find the campsite shut for lunch if we arrived too early. When we came to Tréguier Bob turned off and into the town and fantastically, but not unusually for France which is motorhome friendly, there ... read more

This is a combined 3 day blog covering the 3 days we spent in Carantec with friends Janet and Eric. They had been on the site (Camping les Mouettes, Carantec) already for almost 2 weeks so when we arrived we asked if the pitch next to them was free and it was. We’ve stayed here once before, in September 2010 when we paid ACSI (discounted) prices. The ‘campsite’ has now become a holiday park with a small area for tourers like ourselves. Facilities, super pool, shop etc are still exactly as they were then but now they cost twice as much as this is a Yelloh site. We also annoyingly had to pay all 3 days upfront. All the pitches with any possible view to the sea have been filled with statics as have most areas ... read more

I was right about the nasty wind and it certainly made itself felt today. It must have been what blew last night’s mist in and left more cloud today than forecast. Not complaining you understand (as we believe the UK is not having good weather) and the sky is beautifully blue most of the time. It did mean we wore an extra layer for scootering today as out of the sun it really can feel quite cold. Poor Bob gets the full force of the chill on the scooter as he is on the front and I’m tucked in cosily behind. He also gets the bites from the insects which fly into him. We went to Locronan first. Again we have visited here before but it is one of the 'most beautiful villages of France' and ... read more

Glorious blue sky day. Kisbee all ready to go so, so were we. Must admit it was not quite as warm as I’d hoped when we set off towards the sea at Douarnenez (I've been spelling that wrong, sorry) at just after 10am and suspect it’s a couple of degrees colder here on the South Finistere north coast then it was on the south. Certainly a bit drafty as we scootered along and glad it was only 5 miles. Have a strong suspicion that that icy north wind which has plagued us in England this spring has found its way over here. Certainly a bit chilly if you’re not directly in the sun. We’ve visited Douarnanez before when we were staying at St Nics in September 2010 and liked it so a good place to revisit. ... read more

Moving on today. Not far to go, just across the Southern Finistere peninsula from south to north. We got off to a pretty poor start leaving Concarneau as we got stuck behind a wide load, carrying two holiday chalets and so big and long it was having difficulty manoeuvring round the not very big roundabouts. We followed it for several slow miles but we were in no hurry so not a problem and it pulled in to let us and all the other following traffic past at Fouesnant. We avoided Quimper and the dreaded dual carriageways which Clarissa is so fond of and headed for Pont-Croix then due north to just before Douaranez. Our campsite Camping de la Baie de Dourananez, 7 kms from the coast at Poullan sur mer (but it isn’t on the sea ... read more

A bit cloudy most of the day which for me was quite a good thing. No worries about sunshine on my still a little bit warm shoulders. A scooter trip was planned, right round the bay with Concarneau to the East and Beg Meil to the West. We first though popped down to Concarneau to do a bit of essential food shopping. There is a market every day in Les Halles on the harbour front so we picked up some lovely fresh veggies and salad things and the friendly shopkeeper directed us to exactly what I had asked her for “a small supermarket”. Excellent, a pocket sized Carrefour. Both scooter boxes full to the brim we returned to the Tandy to put the food in the fridge. If we had such handy shops everywhere we would ... read more

Not far to drive today, just a short hop along the coast of south Finistere heading West. Keeping shoulders well covered against the sun as yesterday’s unexpectedly brilliant weather has left them a bit tender. We left the campsite and lovely Quiberon at a very leisurely pace and following Clarissa Tomtom’s route we’d reached our next campsite at Les Sable Blanc in Concarneau well before midday. I had been thinking of using a scenic, perhaps coastal route as we had such a short distance to travel but unfortunately Clarissa refuses to understand that many of the dual carriageways in France have been upgraded to almost motorway standard. If they are not actually designated Motorway she does her best to send us along them. Bob hadn’t bothered to plan the route as it was so short so ... read more

Kisbee Scooter was very excited when we woke up and told it it was going on a ferry trip across to Belle Ile en Mer. The island is clearly visible from Quiberon but is 14km and 45 minutes away. We were up and out of the Tandy by 8.30 and scootered down to Port Maria to catch the ferry. I was directed to the foot passenger queue while Bob and Kisbee shot up to the front of all the other waiting vehicles. The 9.30 am ferry is obviously a popular one as there were a lot of other people catching it. Bob was already settled on the top deck by the time I got through the queue as he and Kisbee had been first on. We had both taken fleeces against the cold but it wasn’t, ... read more

Set off at a leisurely pace again today as we’re in holiday chill mode. We went first of all to the ferry terminal in Quiberon centre and booked return tickets for tomorrow for 2 adults and a scooter to visit Belle Ile en Mer. Back on the scooter we rode along the Cote Sauvage, the western side of the peninsula. We stopped for coffee at Le Vivier, which we’ve walked to before from the aire a kilometre further along, and walked across the rocky outcrop, as everyone else was doing, just because it is there and because we could. We drove right along the coast stopping in a couple of places to stroll along the clifftops. Spotted two families of gulls with fluffy babies and wondered how many of the little balls of fluff fall to ... read more
